a favourite. everytime i go to sono the experience is good. i really enjoy the food and the atmospherics are great. you can book a private room, sit at a table or take a seat and watch them cook your food in front of you. the only negative i had was that last time i went to sono they automatically took my brother's wine glass away from him without checking his age. he is actually 20! this was a negative as we were celebrating a special occasion and they just presumed instead of checking.

arguably the best japanese restaurant in brisbane. the food is exquisite and authentic. the atmosphere is amazing, perfect for a special night out.

my score of 4 is actually food 5 service 3, like : we order wine, then change our minds and ask for the cocktail menu, and wine arrives before we can even find a waiter to order a cocktail. we ordered some sashimi, then entrees, then mains and one entree arrives first with no explanation, so we have to ask / start a complex entree before the beautiful simplicity of the sashimi. mains arrive with a small bowl of rice and we have to wave our arms like drowning not waving to order a second bowl.

other than all that? service was very polite, at times bordering on obsequitious.

the food more than made up for it - the (late) scallop sashimi starter arrvied prettier than a beauty pageant queen - all dressed up, fresh fresh fresh, wasabi that tasted like it had just been grated at the table.

entree of cooked scallops was gorgeous, little pillows of seafood, perfectly cooked. dito the waygu entree in a sesame sauce (last time i'll ever order waygu ... the dish was lovely, but i dont get the cost of this meat ... could have been any good beef)

onto mains and that black cod ... will think about it until we go back and order it again. nice portion, buttery, fall apart meat. a lick-the-plate-clean dish. and ditto on the eel - succulent, ther sweet soy just sweet enough to balance the fishyness (a word?) of the eel.

finished with a fun flight of saki's ...

a great evening, ambience fine if not impressive (simple, elegant, low key), service needs a major tune up, but ultimately? delicious food ....

due to covid, sono has decreased the size of their menu. but doesn’t change the fact that their service and food quality is still one of the best japanese restaurants in brisbane. exceptional customer service and great vibe. will definitely come back again

thank you for an amazing anniversary dinner. squeezed us in last minute. the sashimi and beef tataki were amazing, as were oysters and karage chicken. awesome sake. great spot for dinner.

i’ve been twice now. both times were outstanding. the best quality japanese i’ve had in brisbane. although quite expensive, it’s well worth it. staff are all so lovely.

one visit was for my brother’s 18th birthday. i let them know when i booked online. they surprised him (and me!) when they brought out dessert while singing happy birthday. the dessert even had a sparkler on it.

the aburi platter is a must. i don’t usually eat much wagyu but the wagyu aburi was just incredible. the teriyaki and karaage chicken dishes are so tender - easily the best i’ve had.

on a different visit, i shared a bento box with my cousin, along with a few other dishes. every mouthful was divine. i love how many different flavours and dishes come on the bento box.

i’m looking forward to going again!!

the food was good but certain not spectacular, the service was poor and made one feel unwelcome. the feeling from all four diners, two of which were celebrating birthdays was that they wanted the food out a quick as possible so you would finish and they could prepare for the next round.

the food was ok, but why is it called fine dining?! paper serviettes, dated decor, no ambience, nowhere to put a handbag. it’s a nice casual place and don’t expect more
