sol food - big place

oh god, so good.. as a miami native, i am constantly surrounded by latin food. in fact, it's probably the most common genre of cuisine available here. us miamians know real latin food. that being said, my experience at sol food was phenomenal. the flavors were unique and vibrant. not one dish tasted like another. it has its own kick. the decor is rustic, creative, and true to the culture. the environment is very loud and inviting, much like my own family gatherings. i wouldn't have it any other way.

the only downer, if any; while the food was prepared quickly and deliciously, some of the servers, specifically those taking orders while standing in line, were not accommodating to new patrons who aren't familiar with the style of ordering. they seemed annoyed, as if they had somewhere better to be.

but please don't let this deter you from going! the quality and flavor of the food completely overshadows this bit.

sharon should be fired. worst customer service i have had in the food services industry in a long time. sharon, the manager should be fired.

this was my first visit to peurto rico restaurant . had there rico espresso and vegetarian food. everything was awesome and very reasonable priced. they always have this waiting time so be prepared to wait for at least 15 min to get your seat.this wait is always a worth.

there was a line out the door, which i take as a good sign. the bistek (steak) was great with rice and beans. filling portions and very tasty.

ready for this little dime? sol food. if you haven’t heard already, let me introduce you to some sol food right across the golden gate bridge. i know, i know. it’s a bit of a trek for some of us. but trust me. it’s worth it. this place has 4.5 stars on yelp over 1900 reviews. and i’m just hearing of it now. are you kidding me? i’ve been living under a rock. i haven’t had this amazing puerto rican food in a while. pretty much everything about this place screams authentic. like. even the entire building on the outside is painted a bright lime green, while the interior is whimsically themed with colorful walls, cultural artifacts, and foot traffic. speaking of foot traffic. this place is not short of it. lines are usually out the door and spilling onto the sidewalk, but don’t worry. it moves fast. you order at the counter, then find a seat anywhere you like. (so make sure you have an idea of what you want to order before you get to the front) while i was holding down some seats at a commu

they've lost my business.. sol food used to be great but over the last 6 months service has gone so downhill i've quit eating there. the final straw was the last time i ordered food for delivery and it took 2 hours and arrived incomplete. when i called i was told it would be another two hours to get the food they forgot sent out. i told them that would be too long and to just credit my card back for the stuff that didn't arrive. the credit never showed up. after a few days i emailed them and they said they'd take care of it and still nothing. it's too bad, i liked a lot of their food but terrible customer service will keep me from ever going back.

my brother is visiting from alaska. i was looking for something unique. a friend suggested sol food. loved it! i had the bistec sandwich and he had the poorboy. both were fabulous. definitely returning for more :)

latin american food at its best. we love the food here so we keep coming back for more!

the guy on the phone sucks. i just don't have time to keep repeating and repeating everything i say to the idiot on the phone. i just give up when this happens. why can't they get capable people to take orders on the phone. geez. i will not be calling again. i had to keep repeating what i wanted when it was very clear. he keeps asking me questions after i just told him in detail (kind of beans,today's special, etc.) then he could not get my credit card numbers and kept telling me it wasn't working. i could have grown my food by the time this guy took the order. no more!

this was the best puerto rican food i have ever had. i didn't think it would be as good as what i'd eaten in new york- especially being vegetarian now. i had the vegan dinner and it was to die for. everything was perfectly cooked and well balanced. i enjoyed my dinner so much last night that i am seriously considering going back tonight.

sol food. big line, person in front of me raved about it. i expected something special. what a disappointment. a piece of tasteless fried bread, plain salad greens with a dressing, a flat as a pancake piece of steak that tasted ok, but more like what my mother would quick cook in a frying pan when i was growing up. not horrible but not good. i don't get all the fuss. i won't go back.

not that great. everybody told me to taste great.. puertorrican food in san francisco so i went before going back to puerto rico. so what you see im frome the island. at first a full restaurant waited about 20 minutes to get seated thats ok. then the treatment was great but when it came to the food let me tell you its not that great. im not a chef but i can cook since my grandma thougt me. in my opinnion the rice and beans lack flavor or in other words soul. it didnt have that correct taste it was dull and boring but in other hand the plantains (tostones) were great my bad if this offends anybody but thats my thinking. recomendation bring a puertorrican chef that can cook real rice & beans and please stop using cilantro and oregano use the real flavor of puerto rico recao........

this place rocks!. i been this place when they started tiny in a whole in the wall.the first place was ""tiny"" and the parking and seating was poor if that but not the food! then they build a 2nd location in which it was by far better and more parking and more seating the best thing they done! the first loction did moved to a bigger place and kindly hard to find at first but the parking is ok and the seating ok as well!

the food is outstanding! when i used to go there every week-end with family or few of my friends they are hooked from this place! saddly, i am no longer in ca. i am in fl in which its slight better but not the heat wave! my back ground is spainsh and jewish and i do almost the same as sol foods but not as good as them!

cubano. only had the cuban sandwich,...but that is cuban sandwich. damm good. will be back for dinner. can finally reccomend a place to eat in san rafael. great menu

sol food for the soul. the building is an astonishing green color which prompted much local debate and a nasty letter, proudly framed at their front door.

i can't help with anything on the menu except the cubano sandwich, because after i ordered it the first time, i can't set foot in the place without having it again and again, and yes, the hot sauce is so amazing, i smother the cubano in it. i even bought a corked bottle of the stuff to take home. it's mind-bending.

on the take-out side, we met several people who don't live nearby but made a point of stopping in to pick up a lunch. they all said the flavors were pulling them back for more....

it's a "secret" that regular customers can share, with just a glance.....
