when i was invited to this restaurant, i thought that it would be all about the craft beer and nothing else. boy was i wrong! society is about the experience - the beer and food is just a little part of it. food and service is outstanding (don't forget the beer!) and thevibeis incredible. what i usually hate about popular restaurants is that the music is so loud that you can't hear anything. this doesn't happen here - you can actually have a decent conversation! i would definitely recommend the ice cream trio - heavenly!

nice place to meet up with your friends for dinner. the menu offers a great range of pub-like dishes with a rustic touch. selection of craft beer is impressive. thevibewas a bit more chilled and less exciting than expected, but i would give it a try in the day... if only the location was in a bit more of an exciting hub, than an open shopping centre. otherwise enjoyable.

society eatery and craft bar is the perfect place to wind down after a long day at work. thevibeis young and energetic but not as noisy as some of the other hip hop and happening places around joburg. they have a huge selection of craft beers, g & t’s and a lovely wine list. the menu is very trendy with a nice variety of meat and fish options, however for the veggie folks there isn’t a huge selection. they are a bit on the pricey side, but you are paying for “craft-style” food.

for starters we shared a couple of boards; the highlights were definitely the chicken livers, the “charred” lamb riblets, the zucchini fries, and the salt & pepper calamari. i didn’t really enjoy the pulled pork stacks the fritters were really doughy, the pork was flavoured with dried thyme which tasted like dirt, wouldn’t recommend them.

for mains i ordered the lamb rib roast with red wine jus, crispy roast potatoes and veg. the lamb was cooked to perfection; however the red wine jus was very oily. others at the table had the pistachio crusted salmon with salad, it looked absolutely delicious.

i got to try all the desserts, majority were delicious but the caramelized panna cotta tasted awful. the flavours were extremely unbalanced, it tasted burnt and bitter. but the chocolate fondant was delicious and the homemade ice cream was out of this world.

as first-time visitors, we weren't disappointed. the beers were cold, and our food arrived on time. the spatchcock chicken with a yoghurt dipping sauce was tasty (and very spicy, so beware). the pulled pork tortilla was a 'build your own' affair, with the pork, salsa, and plum sauce each in their own bowl, with the tortillas separate too. fully assembled, the dish was tasty. it also came with pork crackling. nicevibeand background tunes - not too loud. i'm sure peak days are really busy. we'll be back :-)

loved thevibeat this restaurant! sporting outside and inside seating with the sounds of chilled, vibey music filling the air. i ordered the gnocchi served with bread rolls. so delicious. also tasted the chicken livers and mushroom risotto which were both divine! i would a hundred percent go there again for the great food and upbeat vibe!

the pubvibewith the outdoor patio area, indoor dining and the bar area gives you choice of seating for your mood. this is definitely a place that pulls that friday/saturday crowds everyday.

food was excellent with a nice craft seletion, cocktails and wine menu. we started with the prawns and asian calamari which were good. on the mains the lamb ribs was probably one of the best lamb dishes i've had. those smashed crispy pototoes have to get a special mention. super yum. the risotto with the addition of fillet medallions was also good but when i tried the risotto with the lamb, heavenly. this combo is what i'll do as a special request on my next visit. for desserts we shared the churros with the divine dark chocolaty bar one sauce, you can't go wrong with crispy churros and this sauce.

service was tentative and friendly. loved this place.

what a place greatvibeand service, craft beer always a winner. had the pulled pork stacks a little bit spicy but not overpowering, went on to the winner hands down the triple mushroom risotto finally ended with the mexican churros with bar-one dipping sauce.

thevibeis electric. being roped in for drink could not be easier or more delicious. the signature society g&t will have you reeling for more, and as you need it, the delicious bowls and boards help curb the alcohol and satisfy the appetite, in terms of taste and presentation, bravo.

society is a hidden gem. we went the saturday after new year. the place was empty but still had a lovelyvibedue to the deco. a must have is the g&t. it has elderflower and cardoman and was very refreshing. i had the chicken liver starter which comes with ciabatta. only gripe is i got a meager 2 pieces of bread as did my friend with the mussels. however, the livers were delicious. my friends parmesan chicken bites were also good and very fresh. we had the ribeye burger main which was pretty good. i swiped a piece of my buddys wagyu burger. it had an overpowering amount of horseradish. would order it again but ask for horesradish cream on the side. i've been told that the place gets busy but this should only add to the vibe. will definitely visit again.

my colleagues and i came here for lunch today and discovered quite a gem of a restaurant.

though the generalvibeis that more of a drinking establishment, the food served is actually of quite high quality.

as i mentioned above, it being a drinking establishment, it wasn't too busy at all when we arrived just after noon.  we were given a choice of where to sit and we chose to sit outside under the deck umbrella.    the waiter took our drinks order and they were brought through shortly.

we decided to try a selection of starters to share among the 4 of us.  we had the asian calamari, the charred lamb cutlets and the bittenballen.  the calamari was outstanding especially with the asian dressing.  the lamb cutlets with the savoury-sweet dipping sauce was also very good.  the ladies at the table didn't find the bittenballen up to scratch but my other colleague and i found that it was quite good.  the beef was of the proper quality which was like shredded beef instead of mince and together with the mustard accompaniment made it quite scrumptious.

our mains took a little longer than i expected it.  however, when it eventually arrived, we were quite pleasantly surprised.  i had the pistachio-crusted salmon, the 2 ladies shared the deconstructed pulled pork and my other colleague had the lager-battered hake & chips.  the salmon was done to the perfect doneness, just cooked through with touch of slight under-cooked in the middle, which i didn't mind at all.  however, the crusting on the top came through a little too salty for my taste and i didn't get the taste of the pistachio as distinctly as it should.  the noodles that accompanied the salmon was also lightly tossed with a sweet-savoury sauce.  i tried some of the pulled pork and it was really tasty too.  the wasabi and dill mayo matched the hake perfectly.

all in all, we all had a really good meal there.  i understand from some other people i chat with that it was a really vibe-y place in the evenings with the drinking crowd.  it is a great place to have the craft beers and also some amazing food.
