i have been back a few times for casual drinks and dinner. my first experience was not mind blowing but i have only been happy since then. my boyfriend and i shared the mussel starter (lactase pills on hand for me) and i had crispy prawns and the zucchini fries (my favourite - although the sauce is quite rich). he had the fillet suzette and we were both extremely happy. great service, friendly waiter and a delicious dinner paired with yummy drinks.

went this evening for the first time with a group of work friends. service was great and nice atmosphere. i was quite disappointed with my main: pistachio crusted salmon. it was a little overcooked and the noodles weren't very flavoursome. the pistachio flavour didn't really come through. for r120 i would have expected way more finesse. the wide variety of beer was pleasing and had 2goodones and really enjoyed the onion rings i had on the side. the best thing of the evening was the chocolate fondant which i shared (it was more than enough).

nice afternoon/evening out i enjoyed the zucchini fries. we had a selection of their board items had no idea how large the portions would be. great items for sharing. the rosemary mayo was delicious. goodservice

so i could not understand how a spot could be this popular at all times. from rich trophy wives to young sales men this place is always packed. 

obviously they havet to be doing something right, right? 

right!!!!!! 

the food here is out of this world, from the wagyu burger to the asian calamari they have it on point. the ingredients are fresh and delicious and the portions received aregoodenough to justify the price tag. 

the hake is one of my favourites at this place and i don't normally rave about fish in jhb, you know being born in cape town and all. but i must say it is delicious. 

look out for their specials from time to time especially if you are strapped for cash but would really like to give them a try.

we tried the toblerone cocktail, wagyu burger , and, mushroom risotto, amazing!! there are very few places that know how to make agoodrisotto, society eatery is definitely one of them.
staff were friendly and attentive.

now i know why this place is crazy busy. the food here is great. i am not sure what our waiters name is but he was extremely helpful and assisted me in picking the items for these platters. the food here is quite expensive for the portion size but itsgoodquality. i didn't like the rosemary dipping sauce felt it was a bit overpowering but i always like hoisin sauce. not sure what the other (white) sauce was but it lacked flavour. there's not enough stools to sit on but when you've been drinking for 5hrs i guess it doesn't matter.

the place is chilled, the food it's yummy special the asian calamari 😋😋😋.the service it's verygoodwaiters are friendly. will definitely go back again

tried the laager-battered fried hake, with smashed crispy fried potatoes. freshly made and tasted great.goodvibe as well, especially for after work drinks..

some girlfriends and i went to society last night for an early dinner and overall the food and atmosphere was good. we shared a board that contained the chicken pops, cauliflower pops, zucchini fries and the battered hake goujons - all of which were delish. for me my favourite was the zucchini fries and least favourite was the cauliflower pops as i felt it lacked in flavour. with me being preggy i had a banana milkshake which was super delish that i ordered a 2nd one 😊. service was toogoodto a point that the waiter and manager checked in too often for my liking - i understand that they want to keep their patrons happy, but over checking can get a bit annoying.

reasonable service. manager pleasant. foodgood& craft beer selection 👍🏽. the centre that the restaurant is in is a bit depressing- however may return to try another dish.

well, well, well.... so after have not ever trying this place for a hell of a long time my best mate thought let's try this spot

i glanced at the menu and one thing caught my eye.... the tacos, man o man the platter comes with fish, pork and something else i didn't really care about since i ate and ate all the fish tacos and then ordered more

best ever, the drinks weregoodthe service outstanding and to think this was at 12.30pm
i was told this place is off the hook later that evening

i was a little weary about this place being a little pretentious (since i was in shorts) but nothing remotely close

will def go back there tapas are the best ever

final thought:

one may think why if everything wasgoodonly 4.5 and not a 5 well because first impression wow i need to go back one more time and if it's the same (which i hear will be) then bada bing bada boom we change

the pub vibe with the outdoor patio area, indoor dining and the bar area gives you choice of seating for your mood. this is definitely a place that pulls that friday/saturday crowds everyday.

food was excellent with a nice craft seletion, cocktails and wine menu. we started with the prawns and asian calamari which were good. on the mains the lamb ribs was probably one of the best lamb dishes i've had. those smashed crispy pototoes have to get a special mention. super yum. the risotto with the addition of fillet medallions was alsogoodbut when i tried the risotto with the lamb, heavenly. this combo is what i'll do as a special request on my next visit. for desserts we shared the churros with the divine dark chocolaty bar one sauce, you can't go wrong with crispy churros and this sauce.

service was tentative and friendly. loved this place.

my husband and i have been to society a few times now and i have to say that i am impressed every single time. i am amazed at howgoodthe food is; one tends to make the assumption that you will presented with pub food but this is not the case. they have quite a variety on their menu, ranging from boards to share to full on main meals that you would expect at an upmarket restaurant. we have eaten a fair bit off the menu and everything we have had has been absolutely delicious. my personal favourite is the gnocchi; so light and airy but still doughy. it doesn't stick to the roof of your mouth and the sauce it comes in is an italian's dream! my only wish is that it came in a bigger portion! :-)

the churros are also fabulous! very crispy on the outside but soft in the middle with the most divine chocolate dipping sauce on the side.

they have a great drinks menu, not to mention their bottomless bubbly special that they run.

great place, great vibe, great service, great food!

this is a fantastic place in terms of the food, range of craft beers, gin and all roundgoodvibe. the risotto is one of the best i've tasted. only one issue, with the waiter trying to extort a hefty tip from our table. he actually had the cheek to come back and ask for the extra cash based on a 10 % rate, which on a hefty bill is unreasonable , bearing in mind it was an already very generous tip and was a rough estimate based on the service received on the night (some drinks forgotten, undercooked meat, ) ! my food had to be sent back to be cooked properly and i sat without my meal while everyone else at our table ate theirs we reported it to the manager who issued a new bill reflecting the higher tip! the manager never returned to apologise. they need to work a bit on staff training,. tips are not mandatory and are based on service. i will go back, but if this is a regular issue, it will leave a bad taste to what would otherwise be a great evening

02.09.2016 i finally made a booking to try this spot. the menu looked interesting and had agoodcombination of flavours.

i appreciated that the manager called me on the day to confirm my booking and let me know they going to be really busy. i told him as long as the food isgoodand he didn't double book me (i.e. cancel my booking) and my table is still available i don't mind if it's busy.

we arrived and the place was packed and had quite a vibe.

they also have a fewgoodgin options which i tried. i can't for the life of me remember the cocktails i had but they were delicious and definitely didn't skimp on the alcohol. the one however was definitely not what i had ordered (had cardomon in it) but drank it anyway as it was still gin and it's always a mission sending drinks back.

we ordered the charred lamb riblets and spicy prawns for starters. loved it. just my prawns needed some more sauce with the dry ciabatta that was served with it.

for mains we took the fillet with garlic buttered black mushrooms, butternut gratin and crispy potatoes and the mushroom risotto. enjoyed it but my fillet was slightly dry and the rissoto was good.

dessert options were a trio of ice cream and churros. now ive been on a churro hunt of late so i had to try them. the chocolate sauce was good, but the actual churro didn't deliver. it was very heavy and doughy. as for the ice cream sadly i also wasn't a fan. it was very icy and the flavours - vanilla, salted caramel and salted chocolate were not to my liking at all. the management did ask what we thought and we told them and i liked that they were hands on and going around checking up on the patrons.

i still think it's a funky place with somegoodmenu options and will definitely go back and try some other items which i couldn't try on this ocasion.
