my colleagues and i came here for lunch today and discovered quite a gem of a restaurant.
though the general vibe is that more of a drinking establishment, the food served is actually of quite high quality.
as i mentioned above, it being a drinking establishment, it wasn't too busy at all when we arrived just after noon. we were given a choice of where to sit and we chose to sit outside under the deck umbrella. the waiter took our drinks order and they were brought through shortly.
we decided to try a selection of starters to share among the 4 of us. we had the asian calamari, the charred lamb cutlets and the bittenballen. the calamari was outstanding especially with the asian dressing. the lamb cutlets with the savoury-sweet dipping sauce was also very good. the ladies at the table didn't find the bittenballen up to scratch but my other colleague and i found that it was quite good. the beef was of the proper quality which was like shredded beef instead of mince and together with the mustard accompaniment made it quite scrumptious.
our mains took a little longer than i expected it. however, when it eventually arrived, we were quite pleasantly surprised. i had the pistachio-crusted salmon, the 2 ladies shared the deconstructed pulled pork and my other colleague had the lager-battered hake & chips. the salmon was done to the perfect doneness, just cooked through with touch of slight under-cooked in the middle, which i didn't mind at all. however, the crusting on the top came through a little too salty for my taste and i didn't get the taste of the pistachio as distinctly as it should. the noodles that accompanied the salmon was also lightly tossed with a sweet-savoury sauce. i tried some of the pulled pork and it was really tasty too. the wasabi and dill mayo matched the hake perfectly.
all in all, we all had a really good meal there. i understand from some other people i chat with that it was a really vibe-y place in the evenings with the drinking crowd. it is a great place to have the craft beers and also some amazing food.
