nice spot despite last visit. i've been to skinners loft about 4 or 5 times now since it opened and all but one of the visits were highly enjoyable. it was my most recent visit to skinners loft on a monday night duringrestaurantweek where unfortunately there wasn't anything we ate that was of quality.
the starter bean soup was decent. then came the apple / endive / blue cheese salad with a goupy dijonnaise dressing and barely any blue cheese. it was heavy, not very flavorful...quite bland. the salmon for the main entree was over-cooked, on top of a thick layer of lentils and heavy assortment of other dry vegetables. my date's ahi tuna starter was no better, with an interesting garnish of peeled pear strips in a similar sludgy white sauce that simply tasted terrible. her steak was overcooked as well. even the chocolate cake was dry and for me, a lover of sweets, a huge letdown. the saving grace for the dessert round was the sweet crepe which was very tasty.
in all, everything seemed to lack a certain freshness this past visit...and while this sounds like a very negative review, it was only this one time that i endured such a substandard dining experience here. maybe it was due to it being a monday night, late...around 10pm. but still i would expect the food served to retain a certain level of quality regardless of the time of the day/day of the week.
otherwise, all my meals here have been wonderful and the atmosphere/decor of therestaurantis lovely. i'll definitely be going back, crossing my fingers that the last visit was a fluke!
