severely disappointed in the food, service, and presentation. the lowest point of the restaurant is the short shorts worn by the waitresses. during mytimethere i saw the shorts being pulled down in all areas multiple times by multiple waitresses. they then put their hands on the cups and plates. i could not help but be disgusted. when you sell a 38 dollar steak, at least make sure that the servers are dressed in clothes appropriate to serve food in a sanitary manner.

it was my third and lasttimeto eat here. steak was cold, burnt(ordered med rare) and tons of gristle! my date had the same problem. sent back my cold asparagus, it was awful too. our waiter was awesome and did all she could to make up for the bad food. at $300 for 4 people, it was.... way over priced!! i could buy my own great cut of meat and do a better job. sad part, i was entertaining my friends from houston and was embarrassed.

i loved the lunch experience!!!! i had been a few years back during dinner and didn't enjoy anything. (food was just ok and it wasn't busy, but since i was in a group of women we were ignored while the male patrons were favored. plus the waitresses always seem to have something, or everything, hanging out of their outfits) anyway, i tried it again recently at lunchtimeon a sunday because they are one of the few places open. i have to admit it was great! food was wonderful and waitress was well covered up and attentive. my boyfriend gave me a bite of his burger and it was crazy good.
i definitely recommend going mid-day or order from the take out menu. its much more affordable too!

this was my very firsttimehere and i was not impressed. a local recommended it to me as one of the best in the area and it did not live up to the hype. i ordered a ribeye which was $30+ but i was okay with the price based on my expectations, but boy was it a let down. i've had better ribeye's from chain restaurants. i ordered my steak medium and it came out medium rare(cool red center) in case they didn't know lol. for the price i was expecting it to wow me and that wasn't the case. i can't speak for the bbq which seemed to be the favorite once i observed what others were eating. my server was quick and attentive but not the friendliest. i come visit the area once a month for business and to be honest i will give this place another shot but try the bbq instead.

i know this is my second review...but.... alright. i went with a group from work-on their dime. i figured i could at least give silver star a chance to redeem themselves, especially since it was nothing out of my pocket this time.

there were four of us, all ladies. we walked in and were promptly ignored. what i mean by this is that there was a server/hostess right there and she walked away. of course, as a previous comment suggested, when a group of three men came in right after us, two servers and the original hostess magically appeared.

and, as another comment stated, we watched hostesses routinely-routinely-pull their pants out of every crevice a woman has...then deliver food. it was almost a choreographed dance routine-step into a semi-private area, where only a few people could see (one of my coworkers suggested maybe the servers felt like since we're chicks, we "get" pulling pants out of those places. i still don't want to see it.), squat, pull, pull, shimmy. seriously.

so...ok. in all seriousness, if you're the owner and read this, please have a chat with your wait staff about appropriate attire/not pulling pants out of your...erm...you get the idea. it's so obvious that they're catering to men that it borders on pathetic, so i guess that's why they figure they have to wear stuff like that. but ladies frequent your establishment too...and to be treated like crapp, then to have servers give us our food with "diggy fingers" is not acceptable.

first time, last time. went to silver star for the firsttimethis weekend. i'm not a cheapo, but i don't really expect to spend 60 bucks for two people to eat barbeque. server was efficient as all hades, but we were left feeling more like hindrances than customers. food was pretty good, but not 60 bucks worth of good. agree with previous reviewer-if you're a female going in to eat, be prepared to get less than great service-this place is definitely suited for men, from the daisy duke wearing barely-legals to the hee-hawing next door in the bar. not being a true southern belle myself, this place was definitely not my scene and i doubt i'll be returning. i pray not, anyway.

poor wait staff and service. i've been to this restaurant numerous times, both as a dine-in and take-out customer, and the experience is the same regardless - unnecessary waits and being treated like you're a burden. i've gone on different days of the week, too, and that does not change the service or the treatment. the lasttimei went to pick up a take-out order, there were three young ladies serving as hostesses but it still took over 15 minutes for one of them to address me even though i was standing directly in front of them. what's the most funny thing is that when my attractive boyfriend walks in, he's addressed immediately... i guess you need to be a male customer in order to get timely service but, based on the many other reviews, it seems some men are subject to the same treatment as me.

stay away from this awful place!. i had been here because i have enjoyed meals at the country tavern and texas st. tavern/steakhouse, which the proprietor either used to own or perhaps still does. the restaurant does not have its own webpage. while both of the other places the people have been dressed in an appropriate manner and were friendly, the waitresses here are scantily clad, most in in daisy duke style shorts. all of the employees i came into contact with had horrible attitudes. for a bbq place in the south and particularly in louisiana, they need to work on the way the young staff treats customers. they also sound as though they are out of breath and are not willing to spend anytimeanswering questions. the goal is to quickly turn the table and get you out of there. the food was nothing like the high quality food that i have had at mr. alvis' other restaurants and was not very diverse as at the other restaurants. there were several people in our party and no one was impressed. it is extremely loud in there and is in a very unappealing location. it is out of the way, only a portion of the parking lot is paved and the rest is gravel. the grass has not been mowed near the entrance to the parking lot in obviously quite some time. save your money or go to a really good bbq place, of which there are many in the shreveport/bossier area in nice locations. it is disappointing to see mr. alvis is allowing this business to be run this way, which he has previously been known by his successes. this will likely not be one of them, except for people who prefer to have a meal in a loud and undesirable location with rude staff, many of which are barely clothed. unfortunately, i had not read the awful reviews on numerous sites before trying this place. i will not ever go back and would not recommend that anyone do the same. although i have not used their catering service and have not booked a private room, it is clear that their staff is way off the mark on that front as well, as is shown in so many reviews.

yum!. i must say that i'm shocked at some of the reviews. i've had nothing but excellent food and service eachtimei've visited silver star. the burgers are the best i think i've ever eaten (and trust me, i've eaten a lot of burgers at a lot of places in the world!). the bbq is awesome - quality! the fried pickles - good, the potatoes - really good! i'm going to dinner there this weekend so will be on the lookout for some of the issues mentioned in other reviews.

they don't know what they are doing. i have made a smoked brisket atimeor two. i would not feed my guests brisket like this. they advertise 18 hours of cooktimei cook my whole packers brisket for close to 24 with a crutch the last few hours to get it to about 200f. it falls apart when i cut it, has good smoky flavor with a good smoke ring. there's is tough with no smoke ring or smoky flavor at all. i use oak they claim hickory but i don't taste it. my guess is they cook there's (probably a point, much smaller than a packer) at 250-300f for an hour or two too long. the wait is too long to get a seat and the service is below average along with the food.

the ribs were good decent with a good smoky moist flavor, had that signature pink smoke ring that i look for.

i suspect the place is only busy because of the attractive waitresses and the abundance of middle aged men who haven't seen their own genitals in several years because of there belly being in the way. i live just down the road from this place and have been a few times, but will stay home or drive to jefferson tx, or alexandria for better bbq (at a gas station surprisingly).

good food, inconsistent service. everytimei go to bossier i stop in here at least once. the brisket, sides, and sweet tea are the most consistently good stuff i've found in town. the staff -- eh, sometimes they're not all that attentive, but aside from that i've got no other complaints.

3rd strike...your out! this is the thirdtimei have eaten here and everytimei leave i regret going! the service is terrible the atmosphere less than adequate and the food...lets just call it a knock off version of the country tavern, that can't compare in the least!! i wish i had something positive to say but i'm sorry (not really) to say i will never be back! not to mention the post below me where the employee shows how unprofessional and tacky this restaurant truly is!!!!

great food! no doubt! if you haven't been don't let some of these reviews fool you!. great food!!!! i am a regular at silver star and have been going there since they were a part of country tavern. i have gotten to know the different members of the staff that come and go over the years and they are always young girls that trying to make it through college. i think there might be a few minor glitches.. but who doesn't have those! it shouldn't be slandered to say the least! i know i have heard people refer them to "hooter's girls" but i don't agree... a wife that comments is only jealous because she thinks her husband is looking at her! grow up! they are just young kids trying to get through school... give them a break! you can't judge book by its cover! back to the food...the food is amazing! they always have a big crowd waiting to get in and a great fun atmosphere. it is definitely a place to visit if you haven't tried it. for an appetizer you must try the texas toothpicks.. i get them everytimei go! also.. the fried pickles are pretty good! the homemade ranch dressing is the best.. seriously! the steaks are amazing! the best i have ever had and i have heard by many the best in town! for bbq, the turkey breast is my favorite.. it isn't your ordinary turkey! it melts in your mouth! sometimes i even buy a whole turkey breast to take home or to give as a nice gift! the au-gratin potatoes are to die for! everything is good, but those are my personal favorites! oh yeah and don't forget dessert! peach cobbler?? who doesn't love it!

the food was ok but def had better. we had an "interesting" experience. while there 2 waitresses slipped on the same spot behind someone in our party. the firsttimehe got hit in the neck by a huge serving tray full of food. the 2ndtimehe got a full bowl of ranch down his back. a 3rd waitress slipped a few minutes later and would have doused him in ice water if he had not had moved.
