i think this could very well be the greatestpubwest of the mississippi always fun great service awesome food and affordable not to mention constant updating inside and out

surprisingly pleased. i have to admit, a few years ago i didn't like shanahan's. i was very presumptuous of the establishment as a whole after one evening with a particularly rude bartender, but he has since been gone (four years ago) and the place offers a decent, hardworking staff that seems, thus far, to be sans-typical bartender ego that would otherwise make a bar undesirable. i think i was also being narrow-minded, but it's so easy for one person to rub you the wrong way into not going to a bar for a few years.
a couple of months ago a coworker of mine suggested we make our happy hour trip to shany's. it was a tuesday, so i relented. i was amazed! it's a very comfortable bar with many booth-style seating (my preference), but along with that a full length bar, many tables, pool tables, a large back room where they conductpubquiz nights and an outside smoking area/beer garden. i think what i liked most about it was how casual it felt; let's face it, you're going to get all kinds of people, so i can't say it's the type of place you can go to and slip into anonymity, because it's vancouver for christ's sake. that just doesn't happen anymore. but--it is a place that doesn't feel too high strung or pretentious. they have a very decent beer selection and i was rather amazed by their happy hour food which goes from 3pm to 8pm. i've only tried the cod tacos thus far but my husband has had the steak bites with mushrooms and the pulled pork tacos and said they're both surprisingly amazing. i recommend to anyone looking for a quality, down to earth bar to go to shanahan's, for they somehow managed to stay above the typical, vancouver-bar fray.

these guys have added a lunch special on friday, that i had not had before. tuna melt, he cooks are doing it right and its very good, they toast the bun, excellent, they fit the tuna to the bun excellent, then it goes under the salamander and i melts the cheddar evenly across the top. not only ls the presentation first rate, so is the tatse
unusual for apubwhen the food is as good as the booze

david. great spagetti usually, especially if ken makes it, they use italian sausage sometimes. and reasonable always
the owner dave is very accomadating, all you have to dois ask, his words, and i have, he is a good one, the waitress, it seems there now called bartenders? marketing? tips? ego??? there are some attitudes i could do without. jen the little tiny one, excellent, sunday, or thursday .
