all in all, a solid cafe. decent staff, ok environment (as long as you're sitting up front, not down the back by the dish area and toilet), great coffee and friendly staff. why not a 4 then? well for a start, the menu is a bit weird. pad thai, sri lankan curry and a middle eastern lamb dish, scrambled eggs and some sort of lentil and sun dried tomato salad. it read like an around the world tour. that's a big red flag to me. it indicates a menu designed to pander to the masses rather than the expression of someone who cares about food.

the curry was excellent (although the side of dhal was heavy on coconut cream and light on flavour). the pad thai was lacking in portion and flavour - tricky when you're competing against really excellent examples of this dish in every local thai restaurant. and for $19? taking the piss really. coffee was good but very slow to arrive and not made exactly to order. is this the best cafe in hamilton? i'd hate to experience the average ones.

beautiful, well priced, delicious food and lovely staff! i go in regularly for their famous alio olio, which at $9.50 is one of the best priced lunches in town. it never fails to impress me! their coffees are always great, and their cakes are mouthwatering. they have a lovely and quiet outside courtyard which is great in summer. their only fault (and not really a fault) is that they're not open later. i'd love to be able to grab one of their coffees after work, but sadly they close at 4.

this is the best cafe in town hands down always was and always will be. food and coffee is always way beyond par and the staff are the loveliest friendliest people. have a chat with dave on the coffee machine he's always good for a lol. tumeke! 5 well deserved points x

scotts consistently deliver the best coffee, the best friendly service and the most delicious breakfast in hamilton. dave is a master barista. jase is a fantastic and humble host, when he clears your table and chats to you you'd have no idea he was the boss! top shelf!

scott's epicurean was one of the foodie highlights of my recent trip to hamilton. it's apparently known as an iconic hamilton brunch institution, and rightfully so in my opinion.

their menu contains a variety of unique, creative dishes , which provide a refreshing change from standard cafe fare. i had the crepes with passionfruit curd, banana, cinnamon, mascarpone, and toasted coconut ($14.50). the seemingly odd combination of flavours came together impressively well, with the toasted coconut lending a nice crunch to the dish.

the bf had the aglio olio (only $9.50!) - this dish seems to be one of their most popular, judging from the number of plates being churned out of the kitchen. at a glance it looks deceptively simple - spaghetti with garlic, chilli, parsley, olive oil, and parmesan. but it's incredibly moreish and addictive - i'm not sure how they get such depth of flavour in it, but whatever their secret is, it works. you barely even notice the absence of other ingredients (seafood, chicken, mushroom, etc) that usually accompany pasta.

the service was good and efficient, and our food came relatively quick. the decor is pretty sweet, too, with long decorative lamps and wooden tables. i'd definitely return if i'm ever around these parts again!

one of the best cafes in hamilton with lots of regular customers, friendly staff and great food!! my friends and i have scotts 'addictive' aglio olio and mocha every weekend! their lamp rump and pad thai is really yummy too!

scotts is a regular for me, always friendly welcoming service. my dad and i come here almost weekly for green tea and the famous aglio olio. the staff are so good they remember our order every time! highly recommend!!

we've enjoyed coffee and meals at scott over the past 5 years. the staff are friendly and helpful. there is always a good selection of counter food, cake selection/taste is never disappointing. personally i have found the menu a little lacking for choice but everything we've ordered has been presented well and enjoyable. cafe is fairly small but has nice atmosphere, the lovely courtyard is lovely if you want get away from the street noise.

a nice enough looking place that has good reviews, but i thought it was overpriced and over rated, and the service totally lacking in enthusiasm and very cold. not the kind of place i would visit again except to see if they've improved or gotten worse as you can't always judge a place on one visit alone... i'll let you know if i do. will give this place a well deserved star.  :(

scotts has been a consistently good cafe that my husband and i have frequented for many years. they make good coffee and the food is always consistently of a good cafe standard.
they have been very accommodating with any special dietary needs, very good people and good service.

scott's epicurean is a great place for casual dining. we had a birthday brunch there with several family members recently on what was actually a sad occasion as we were in town for a family funeral. the staff were amazing - considerate, helpful and they even produced a cake with a candle for the birthday girl!!
i am amazed at the vitriol of some of the comments. steven - get a life - your comments were puerile and do not do this establishment justice. it has great food, consistently excellent coffee and superb service. i am afraid that if someone sat drinking starbucks in my cafe i would be equally annoyed.

the perfect choice for a quiet breakfast and coffee on a sunday morning. coffee was perfecto made and fast to the table. our two vegetarian breakfasts were awesome and i'd love more of their pesto. in the end, service was great, coffee and food were great, and the garden patio the perfect place to spend an early morning.

scott's is definitely my go-to place for coffee in hamilton. normally it's a quick dash in for a takeaway coffee on the go, but staff are always quick to greet customers, friendly and chatty. coffee is delivered to wherever i've managed to find a seat promptly and with a smile. have had lunch a couple of times also, and found the menu delightfully interesting and the food fantastic.

well actually steven, if you bothered to do your research, they won the award 4 years in a row, which is pretty darn good if you ask me. it's printed on their sign, hanging directly above the entrance, bold enough for everyone to see, so it's unlikely you didn't notice it. as for elza, the manager shouldn't have yelled at you, but it's pretty rude to take food/drinks from elsewhere into a different cafe. he was totally in the right, but could probably have taken a different approach. personally, i love scotts! unbelievable coffee, wicked cool staff, fun and friendly atmosphere. keep up the awesome work guys, i'll return again and again.
