great!. i rarely review restaurants...but i feel compelled to give a shout out to salween thai. first, the restaurant is nicely designed and decorated - a big step up from past occupants of the space. second, the service was friendly and attentive. and third, and most importantly, thefoodwas great. everything we ordered was good. i recently was craving thai and went to a place in downtown lincoln that has been around for years. i was so disappointed with the pad thai there, i was nearly turned off at the thought of trying another place i'd never been too so soon afterwards. but, rather than being let down again, i was pleasantly surprised to find one of the best thai places in town. and the prices are ridiculously low.

salween deserves your business - you won't be disappointed!

thefoodis delicious and the best (affordable) place in midtown.  i think  mai thai is better...but its far more expensive.  this place has the best value.  the service here is awful...the downfall of eating here.  it's the same for mai thai as well, just in case you were comparing.  both places take forever to seat you...then even longer to order and you almost never get a refill because there's no one to ask.  the last time i went, i gave money to pay and received no change.  waited around and found that the guy assumed i was just giving him a $10 tip.  like that would happen with almost zero service!?  took a while for thefoodto come, but it was really good.  i had the egg rolls and pad thai.  the thai tea isn't great here...much better other places as it's served warm in ice here?  thefoodhad a different taste than most thai places... unique flavor, but good.  on the spicy side... so make sure you order a little lower than you would for spice.  i would order take out... but won't likely go for sit down.

if you feel like amazing/affordable thaifoodand good service... go to thai kitchen, it's down on like 162nd and l st... but thefoodis the best in the city and it's small, quaint...better atmosphere and the people are attentive and even remember you if you return. it's family run and my favorite place to go if i get the chance.

i went there tonight after reading the rave reviews. i just moved into the area and was excited. i must agree that thefoodis excellent and a good value for the size of portion and price. where i strongly disagree is the service provided. i have never had such disattentive or bordering - on - rude service. took 7 minutes to be greeted at door and another 15 before waitress came to table. when i asked for chili flakes for my curry i got a snotty eyeroll. asking for a refill on water made me feel like i was asking for the impossible. the decor is bland and mostly non-existent. i might order take out but unlikely dine in again.

pleasantly surprised.. stopped in here on a whim last night. thefoodwas really good and the prices were cheap. the service wasn't anything to be excited about, but i had excellent company and didn't mind dinner taking longer than necessary.

thefoodwas pretty good for the price. i was not a fan of how they wrapped the springrolls though. it all just fell apart after one bite. the service here is horrible! the wait for thefoodwas incredibly long. we did not get any kind of service unless we asked. we had to ask for water refills several times and had to go up the cashier to get our check because the waitress never came to our table to check on us. hire more people or just do a better job on checking on your customers needs.

one of the best. the omaha area has a number of excellent thai restaurants. each one has its own specialties, and it's own vibe. after trying salween thai for dinner with friends i found a lot to like about its culinary personality, and why it draws such large and enthusiastic crowds.
located in north midtown, in an area brimming with residents of asian ancestry, salween thai packs in customers of all ethnicities. the one thing everyone has in common is their love for the thaifoodflowing from its kitchen.
we were seated within a moment or two of arrival, and our drink and dinner orders took only a few additional minutes. there is no liquor license, but that didn't seem to scare customers away, as the dining room was filled by 7 pm.
the shrimp spring rolls were very attractively presented, and decent tasting. better yet was our plate of fried tofu served with a sweet chili dipping sauce. for dinner i ordered one of the daily specials...green curry noodles with eggplant and basil. i chose the free option of adding chicken. the curry was served in a very large bowl, and was very satisfying. i ordered the spice level of 3 on the 1-10 scale, and it was plenty spicy, but not beyond my ability to enjoy the dish. one friend had pad thai, and he said it was both delicious and pungently seasoned (he also asked for a spice level of 3). my other friend loved her meal. darned if i can recall what she ordered, other than it had thinly sliced beef and peppers, with a side of white rice, topped with a fried egg.
the atmosphere in the large dining room is pleasant, but basic. i will say that the chairs are very comfortable.
the huge four page menu has scores of appetizer and main dish options. it could take me many visits to work through all of the interesting sounding offerings. one reason it is fun to dine with a group when eating at asian restaurants is that everyone can sample each other's food.
our server was a very pleasant young woman, who answered all of our questions, and provided very prompt service. i noted that tables seemed to turn over here in less than an hour, without anyone feeling rushed.
prices are a bargain, with many main courses coming in at under $10. the three of us each had a main course, and we split two appetizers, all for about $35.
salween thai is a wonderful addition to this saddle creek neighborhood. as a bonus, there is even a thai grocery store next door, for those who enjoy asian cooking at home.
i can't wait to return to sample some of the other items on the menu!

best thai in omaha?. i believe the answer to that question is: yes! very reasonably priced, thefoodquality was excellent, portions were comfortably sized. my wife and i went this past tuesday evening, and our only complaint was that the service was a bit on the slow side. but, as an addendum to that, salween was packed on a tuesday, so i didn't see an inherent service problem. if you're an omahan and like thai, you must try salween thai!
