saltlik banff

rudest server ever.. i came to saltlik one time while in banff for a quick bite and the food was pretty good, so i planned my birthday dinner here becuase my friends and i rented cabin in town. my party was about 15 people, and i called weeks in advance to book the reservation. when we arrived at the restaurant they didnt have a table to accomodate enough people and we had to wait half an hour before a table was put together for us. i was understanding as i work in the industry and have worked for the joey group. when we were seating we got the rudest server i've ever had in my life. i understand that dealing with large parties is hard to handle as a server but this was just offensive how he treated my guests. one of my guests ordered a drink and he responded "uhh thats a 30 dollar drink" and another guest was ordering her appetizer and entree and was deciding if she wanted them together and he responded " il just bring them together" and walked off not letting her finish her sentance. i asked for a drink and he just put up his hand and walked off. the food was alright, they were out of some items but that wasnt even an issue. our servers rudeness continued the wholeserviceand i finally went to speak to a manager about him. i told her he was completely ruining my birthday, i was worrying the whole night about everyone at my party being upset at how they were being treated by our server. as i have worked for this company i know exactly what their standards are and i am honestly surprised this man has a job there. no one was being rude or giving him a hard time, and he was in a mood from the moment he came to the table. at the end when we were paying one of my girlfriends was walking around the table collecting money from everyone (which he should have been doing) and he stood so close to the table several of us heard him say "look they cant even pay theyre bill" at that point she lost it and yelled at him calling him an "a**hole" and everyone at the table started clapping. so you can see i am not even exxaggerating at how much everyone wanted to call him out on his behavior. our bill was 1500 dollars and had an included tip percentage, i would never not tip a server even if they struggled with theservice(being in the industry). however if i had the choice i would have given him nothing for how he treated me and my friends. the manager didnt seem to care much at the comments he made or how upset everyone at the table was. she apologized but wasnt very genuine and didnt do anything to correct the situation. i would have been happy if we were just given a different server the first time i complained. for the amount of money we spent there that night i would have expected a lot different. i will never ever eat there again.

one of the best meals i've ever had!. we went early on a saturday night for dinner and ate in the lounge downstairs so that my husband could have a burger. he ordered the kobe beef burger and it was amazing! very tasty and you could even smell the rich beef when it came to the table! i had the duck tacos and a house salad. yummy! the duck tacos are an appie and wouldn't be enough for a meal but paired with the salad it was satisfying. the salad had beets and goat cheese on it, so that alone is perfection in my book! as we were eating, we kept seeing small pans of dessert with ice cream on top coming out. we asked about it and were told it was apple pecan crumble pie. sold! and we never order dessert! it was soooo good. a large serving, enough for both of us.servicewas great, food was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant. thanks saltlik, we'll be back next time we're in town!

so this evening, we were craving for some great ribs and steak. after doing a quick research, we decided on saltlik!

the first impression upon arrival was the classy ambience. the two storey restaurant with an outdoor patio is perfect for a summer visit!

we ordered the bbq ribs and steak tenderloin, of course medium rare as always! we were so delighted with both dishes. the steak was cooked to perfection, and the ribs were juicy! the steak is a bit pricey but the flavour was spot on. we were a bit disappointed with the fact that it doesn’t come with a side and had to pay extra for it.. really??

other than that, the food quality is definitely on the top side, and theservicewas attentive.

came here for a quick birthday dinner, our waiter wolfy made our night with tremendousserviceand recommendations! 5* service, thanks again wolfy!

i got the ginger salmon salad with quinoa and broccoli slaw, which i thoroughly enjoyed. the salmon was cooked to perfection, flaking away easily and soft in the middle. there was a perfect amount of ginger throughout this dish, to make it refreshing and light but still hearty with a decent amount of quinoa. i also sampled some of the elk gnocchi, which had a generous amount of slowly cooked elk which fell apart at the touch of the fork. theservicewas good, but our server did seem to have a difficult time splitting the various bills, but considering we had a large table that was understandable. we did notice though that generally the staff seemed a little flustered even though the restaurant didn't seem overly busy. overall the food was great and that's what you'd expect for the price here.

drove out to banff for the day, and saltlik was the perfect place for a late lunch. we opted for the lounge, which is big and spacious. i had the 8oz sirloin, and was able to substitute the fries with the seasonal veggies, delicious asparagus. i also added avocado on the side and asked for no bbq sauce to be whole30 compliant. the others ordered the hanger steak, the double cut pork chop, and the 10oz sirloin, with a side of sweet potato fries for the table. theservicewas lovely and we had an overall great experience!

exceptionalserviceand delicious food. the upper outdoor patio was magnificent under the radiating heat modules that made me feel cozy warm as if wrapped in my favorite blanket! and the food was presented spectacularly with portions generous and good value for money in tourist heavy, price heavy banff! my new favorite restaurant in banff!

great food and atmosphere! was there with a group and everyone genuinely enjoyed their dinner. servicewas terrific too, they were there enough to take care of you, but let you enjoy the evening. would go back and would highly recommend.

girlfriend and i tried it out. meat was good with the sauce, didn't eat the tree twig they serve with it. :)  no side orders, just fries. waitress was good.,servicefast, but wasn't busy.  we'll go back and order something different next time.

royale with cheese. my wife and i stopped in for the acclaimed royale with cheese burger... again, and it was amazing!! medium rare and dripping juicy goodness. would recommend to anyone. took awhile to getserviceapparently due to a shift change, but it came around mid meal.

horrible service. my husband and travel to banff frequently - every other month or so. we tried the saltlik once and we were disappointed with theservice(or lack there of) but we thought we would give it a second chance. we arrived (when it was not busy at all) and took a seat. we sat for 30 minutes (timed it) without anyone who worked their even saying hello - though the bartenders/servers had no problem socializing with one another and what appeared to be their friends sitting at the bar. after 30 minutes of waiting (we ended up waiting for so long just to see how long we would have to wait for someone to come over to us...) we stood up and left seeing no point in staying any longer (and even if someone had come over to our table at that point we wouldn't have wanted to stay anyway) we are reasonable people but we found it difficult to be treated this way - it would be more understandable if the restaurant was incredibly busy but to see the staff members conversing with each other and ignoring customers who are going to spend money is very disappointing. we will never return and we advise everyone we know to avoid this restaurant.

my boyfriend and i had an amazing experience at the saltlik. we received greatserviceand great food. the steak was possibly the best steak we have ever had... ever. perfectly cooked and a great cut. unfortunately, the steaks are "a la carte" so all the sides were an extra cost, which were incredibly overpriced but they tasted great. we had the carrot cake for desert and it was phenomenal. all food came out quickly without any mistakes. will definitely be back for a special occasion supper!

great anniversary restaurant. we were very surprised and incredibly happy to have such greatservicefrom the saltlik. i got the steak and it may be the best thing i've eaten in years and their seasonal squash was amazing. the food came out super fast for my giant steak which was obviously a huge bonus! will definitely be coming back for more special dinners.

ran out of potatoes!. appetizers were really great. had the stuffed dates and calamari. steak was 6.5/10 considering the price. there were many things food and drink that they had run out of, including mashed potatoes and baked potatoes and several beers. our drinks came after our appetizers.servicewas friendly enough but the place seemed a bit disorganized. i also ordered the sirloin and got a california cut 10oz steak. was charged for the cheaper one, but again, several mix ups and out of many things. was a very pricey bill considering it was not a well oiled machine.

food was not great andservicewas not that expected of a nice steakhouse. we were given some water when we arrived and my husband took a sip and it tasted like vinegar. the waitress informed us that glasses are washed in vinegar, np because it means cleanliness is important. she replaced our water and all was ok. my husband and i ordered a hangar steak cobb salad, beef carpaccio appetizer, duck taco appetizer, and a bottle of white wine. our white wine was put in a bucket of ice at a spot around the table that neither of us could reach so we would be reliant on the waitress to pour. with it supposedly being a nice steakhouse, my first thought was ok, they are going to come around to check on us enough to ensure that our wine glasses are full. that didn't happen so i got up and carried the wine and bucket to a spot where we could reach and pour ourselves.
as for the food, the iceberg lettuce in the cobb salad was so large and just seemed there was not very good prepping that went into that, just thrown on a plate. there was no steak knives provided so we ate our steak with a butter knife. for the beef carpaccio, i love the flavour of capers. however, the capers were deep fried it seems and all you could taste is oil and the flavour of capers was not tasteable at all. the duck tacos was the only saving grace.
