sails restaurant

we went to sails for pre-christmas dinner on a wednesday night. it's a very classic, reserved place with stunning views to the ocean, a nice atmosphere and a romantic environment.

the services on this place are world class with very friendly and well-trained people. 

to start, we had sea scallops and king prawns with chili sauce. the prawns were very crunchy, firm, crisp and with a pleasant texture. the scallops were very fresh, shaped and very well cooked. to follow we had john dory with parsnip puree, broccolini, pea shoot salad, quinoa and lemon gel, saveur duck breast with sweet potato, plum, cavolo nero, radicchio and a side of potato dauphinoise. the mains were divine, perfectly cooked, tasteful and very well presented. to finish, we had warmed chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream and coffee, little treats (macaroon, creme brulee, milk chocolate, passion fruits tart) and pavlova passion fruit curd, cream. all desserts were also very well done, light with a good presentation and an amazing flavor. 

we absolutely loved sails and we strongly recommend to anyone looking for a reserved and quiet place to have great meals on a special occasion.

sails is a beautiful restaurant with a fantastic menu. we were treated to canapes from their kitchen and drinks as we overlooked the marina. it's the perfect place for a fancy evening out next to the water. 
the staff were so friendly with a great sense of humour and they have some amazing decor to make you feel comfortable. the cocktails were fantastic! the bar staff asked me a few questions about what i like in a drink and then produced exactly what i wanted without ever knowing it! the ginger joe cocktail was incredible!
while sails obviously has a seafood theme, there are other options on the menu to delight everyone and offer a bit of variety. the menu is a bit pricey but it's definitely worth the extra pennies for the atmosphere and incredible cuisine.

the most disappointing part of dinner is missing out from dessert because we were way too full!!!!!! delicious meal as always, attentive service. perfectly cooked and the chips is one of best chips around.

celebrated my brother n laws 50th birthday there. his birthday wish was oysters and crayfish. well we came to the right place!
it was sail's opening night from just going thru renos and the ambiance was first class. friendly staff, breathtaking views and beautiful food. they don't have a children's menu but they did organize a special 'fish and chips' dish for them which was sorted when booking. crayfish orders where also sorted prior (one thing i'd recommend) as this is a $110 dish! overall great experience. would have been even better if our two tables where somehow joined. go with a full wallet:)

sails was a pretty good time. the fish here is really lovely and fresh and even though they serve other meats too, fish is probably the best bet simply because it's their speciality.
my entree was iki mata which essentially is semi raw fish salad cooked in coconut cream; i wasn't keen on the idea but it was beautiful and probably my favourite course. for my main i ordered the duck and that was also lovely however i regret not ordering tuna or king salmon option.
my favourite thing about this restaurant is definitely the view of the harbour bridge and marina. unfortunately, we arrived here when it was already dark but during the day it must be spectacular.

we have been dining at sails for many years now for special occasions and i am never disappointed. went there last night for my birthday biased i know but everytime is like the first time 👍

had lunch for a whitebait fritter deal with a complimentary glass of astrolabe marlborough. it also came with an amuse bouché. with bread, wild venison tataki (entrée size) & a latte, it's quite a big lunch for me.

it's always a bold move when you give somewhere 5 stars. is it really worth it or is it like one of those self rated 5 star motels? let me justify myself. i had taken my lovely wife to sails for the occasion of her birthday. she has new restaurant phobia because so many we have been to have been quite bad. let me tell you walking up the stairs and into sails at night is a very good first impression. the decor and ambiance is excellent the view of the harbour bridge directly in front of you is spectacular. the service is excellent. i found it to be the right level of attention and familiarity. assistance and explanation of the food and wine was very very good. i had the whitebait fritter starter that came with astrolabe sav. devine wine. my wife had the lobster coconut cream soup with shrimp and scallops which was really unbelievable. we both ticked the lobster main box and left with full tummies and very very good memories. an excellent dinning experience and a great evening out. easy 5 stars. thank you to the owners and staff of sails.

nice environment and excellent service. seafood is superb. it is always our first choice to celebrate special occasions with
family and friends. just the duck is not as nice as before and the really miss the chocolate fondant from the old menu. really love it!

lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. wonderful view of the auckland harbour bridge. complimentary oyster from the chef was delicious so was the crayfish!

we were there for my friend's wedding reception. the food was nice and the view was amazing! the manager and staff were very helpful thrughout the night. one of the best wedding venue.

went there with the family for the degustation menu a few weeks back and they were outstanding. all the courses were great but the desserts blew our minds! the view, amazing food and excellent staff made for one truly memorable experience for us all. thank you sails!

if you haven't dined here then you haven't dined at the best in nz and certainly the best seafood in auckland. the view is great as is service fast and efficient.

great powerplay for a date night! staff are very accomodating. definitely pricey but hey, you pay for the quality food, wine and view of the harbour. went here in a grab one deal and was very impressed, would definitely go back on a special occasion and pay full price. the fries as an extra had garlic and parmesan. they were the nicest fries i've had in a while. the salmon was cooked to perfection.

very nice meal, sashimi, john dory & crayfish accompanied by cloudy bay chardonnay. service was impeccable as usual. what a way to finish a long hard week. menu has a lot to choose from. finished with a beautiful chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream & an amazing liquorice ice cream and tropical fruits. nice to have a open fire with a lovely view of the city & harbour bridge.
