we were a large group of 8 people travelling from across the world (uk, japan, mexico, nepal, usa) to take in the treasures of beautiful udaipur. we were recommended this restaurant by our hotel in udaipur (jaiwana haveli), as a truly authentic mewari dinning experience from one of the erstwhile noble families of the region - the house of bedla. entertaining guests has been in the bedla tradition for the better part of their history. jacqueline kennedy & prince charles have been some of their famous guests in the past.
the restaurant itself is enclosed within a picturesque courtyard in a recently restored colonial bungalow. the menu offers some of the most popular entries in the mewari cuisine like lal maas. the curries were fiery and flavourful, while the breads were crisp on the outside and soft within. their service itself could have been more prompt to create a sense of heritage and occasion, but overall we were thoroughly thrilled with our lunch affair.
since this restaurant is not around the lake it wasn't as crowded as some of the others. another reason why we liked it as much was for its relaxing and calm ambience.
