being tired we decided to eat at the hotel ! what a treat ! we ate on the inside patio: beautiful .. and even if we didn't really care for the menu which seems too heavy at that time ! we asked for thebarmenu more appropriate for our hunger and not a problem : caesar salad and salmon cooked at the perfection with delicious rice , mushroom ... great wine and martini ! fabulous bread !!!

service excellent !

bar seems great too ! i like that old feel of an english bar/ club !

we arrived at 2 pm so we could only order from thebarmenu. hubby & i ordered a variety of dishes to share. the shrimp cocktail was great. the horseradish panna cotta complimented the shrimp perfectly. the tostadas & truffled fries were both really good but not extraordinary. the cheese board was extremely disappointing. more than anything the atmosphere was gorgeous. very romantic. this is a perfect "date restaurant". btw make sure to try the passion fruit tea. yum!

historic charm of another era. rosewood is practically a member of our family after getting married here. not being from texas, i didnt really know what i was getting into when picking a wedding venue. i saw the rosewood and thought it was one of the prettiest hotels i'd ever seen. and on the bid day, nothing about this place was below exceptional- the rooms, the food, the pool, decor, set up, hotel event coordinator, i could go on. since we basically moved in for a few days, we lived off of the restaurant food and didnt have a single dinner, lunch or brunch that wasnt fantastic.

the bar: one of the prettiest in dallas. it's also perhaps one of the oldest in the area (the hotel is actually a newer addition). the building has a beautiful, old wold charm. service at the bar, like the restaurant and hotel, is fantastic. but what really surprised me was the quality of the (cheap!)barfood. delicious, $5, duck crepes!

enough stuffy reviews.... it's race day and we are in need of "warrior fuel"... we decide to have brunch at the mansion restaurant @ the rosewood mansion on turtle creek. best decision of the day! perhaps the best-known restaurant in dallas and long-hailed as the best for fine dining, the mansion restaurant has been delighting guests since 1980. brunch is served on the terrace which offers al fresco fireside dining and lounging under a canopy of majestic oak trees, it's absolutely beautiful. most people require approximately 8-16 ounces of fluids 2 hours before the race... so, we order the mimosas and bellinis. i will also need plenty of additional liquids (body wt. x 55% = ounces) to endure the rigors of the dash and i order their "mansion tortilla soup" their "signature dish" - outstanding. realizing the need to carb-load to increase my glycogen store - the grilled kobe shell steak, chimichuri, steak fries and watercress salad fits the bill perfectly. we now won't have time for the 30 minute pre-race snack so, we order the mansion candybarbrownie, peanut croquant, chocolate mousse, lime-coconut sorbet and strawberry shortcake... this should keep us from starting the race hungry! we waddle to the starting line...

cost: $$$$

food: chef bruno davaillon continually redefines his cuisine by weaving the foods and techniques of contemporary american cuisine with french influences

service: service is subtle but impeccable and the royal treatment keeps this dallas institution at the top of its' game

decor: the hilltop mansion, usually lauded as the most desirable hotel in dallas, is luxury personified with marble floors, inlaid wood ceilings and stained-glass windows

disappointing dinner experience. this was our second visit to the mansion, since bruno has taken the helm as executive chef and unfortunately, the dinner did not live up to our expectations, based upon our first visit. after inquiring about an entree with cod and a mussel broth, i was led to believe that i was being served a version of a bouillabaisse but it didn't even come close and was so over salted that it was inedible. we had started off with a drink in thebarand i had a monopolowa vodka martini. after dinner we returned to thebarand i ordered the same martini from our cocktail waitress. she was adamant that thebardid not serve monopolowa and was downright rude. she said that the bartender surely substituted and would bring me the same drink i was served earlier. after tasting it and knowing it was a different vodka, i returned it to the bartender (who made my original drink) and asked him if he had served me monopolowa earlier. he did and said that it has always been available, contrary to what the waitress indicated!
