being tired we decided to eat at the hotel ! what a treat ! we ate on the inside patio: beautiful .. and even if we didn't really care for the menu which seems too heavy at that time ! we asked for the bar menu more appropriate for our hunger and not a problem : caesar salad and salmon cooked at the perfection with delicious rice , mushroom ... great wine and martini ! fabulous bread !!!

service excellent !

bar seems great too ! i like that old feel of an english bar/ club !

started in the bar. cocktails were original and bartender was very descriptive as to what each ingredient was. great start to an unforgettable meal! it was our first year anniversary and everyone wished us the best. then there was the dinner. ribeye was tender and cooked to perfection. lamb was mouthwateringly succulent. all sides complemented the flavors of the meats perfectly. james was our waiter and helped us pair our food with great wines. really added to the already incredible flavor. all in all, the experience at the mansion restaurant ( along with the hotel) has made our first anniver

tl:dr : subpar, overpriced food, in quaint and instaworthy setting, with polite but sloppy service.

there's not much left to say about the mansion. it is routinely heralded (and frequented) by the "old moneyed class" of dfw. the old-school upscale ambience feels genuinely nice, because of the building and its nooks and crannies. definitely a place to dress up a bit for...until you realise that you'd get brunch food that's much superior, at half the price, at a dozen other places in the city.
no, really. the single defining moment of our brunch was when we realised that the chef had arbitrarily removed their much vaunted crab cake from the starters section, and the seared scallops from the entrée section of their 3 course prixfixe brunch menu. when i asked how come those items were there the previous week(s) and not today, i got told that it was a new menu, and they'd added, wait for it, shrimp & grits. what is this, cracker barrel luxe? blatant attempts at cost-cutting, and customer-squeezing notwithstanding, here's what we eventually got from the boring and restrictive menu:

1) mimosa - bad. no effervescence, just a splash of orange with no body or flavor, poor quality sparkling wine, in an impossibly narrow flute.
2) bloody mary - average. not made to order, kept pre-made in glasses.
3) large pastry basket - good. tasty and fresh assortment. should have ended our meal here. $17 bucks wasn't bad for the pastry basket. the remaining 200-ish dollars we spend on food was a bad decision.
4) smoked salmon - good, but a hobbit-size portion. sloppy service here meant the server dropped the accompanying bagel off the plate while setting it down on the table.
5) tomato-peach salad - good, hobbit-size portion, and a generally strange dish to be on a brunch menu. the 2.6 pieces of peaches were hard and flavorless.
6) mushroom ravioli - good, small-portion. sharp, cheesy, creamy sauce which was tasty but not particularly elevated.
7) brisket benedict - embarrassing. for $26 i should have sent this back or called the chef out. the tiny benedicts with a sliver of brisket on a mini-biscuit were fine. the bearnaise was bland but fine. everything else on the plate- especially the fried potato side, was terrible. unfit for consumption. if management is reading this, spare me the "we will do better next time" spiel, and either offer me a redo or a refund for this dish.
8) petit filet - okay. tasty but plain. small piece of decent steak, pretty close to the medium-rare i requested. marble potatoes were soft or hard, but atleast edible. spinach and trumpet mushrooms were fine. red wine jus was fine.
9) desserts were okay, with the churros being quite good, and the creme brulee being good but plain and cloying after a few spoons.
10) coffee was average, and as expected, expensive. $6 for a cup of black coffee plonked down on the table.

something else to note - most of the wings of the dining room are closed off for brunch so if you're expecting to get lovely garden views you're likely to be disappointed. they only seat people in the verandah, which is nice but somewhat cramped, or in the slightly dreary dining room. we sat in the covered dining room straight through the entrance to the restaurant. i dont know if i was enjoying the fireplaces and ornate pillars and dinner vibes on a bright sunday morning, but it's a pleasant, albeit small space.
bill was $200+ for 3. we ended up leaving and eating a heartier meal elsewhere after a couple of hours.
overall, i might return to see if their lunch & dinner are better because i did enjoy the setting. i'd just skip the place for brunch. far better options, food-wise, in the city. as lovely as the mansion is, you can't eat the decor and ambience, can you?

good service and decent selection of beverages including my favorite yamasaki. we decided to have their tasting menu and at $125 per person excluding tax we were quite disappointed.
the gap between the seven courses was excruciating. tasting menus usually have delays between courses but this was pathetically long. i also thought that each portion (even for a tasting) was smaller than they should have been. the last course before desert was the steak. our medium and medium rare steaks, both arrived well done. the waiters were nice enough to take it back. after another massive delay we got well done steaks again. couldn’t be bothered arguing at that point. desert was nice, the smoked salmon was phenomenal and the trout was good. overall experience was just ok.

wonderful desserts. i went their around 10:00 pm because we had to push our reservation back- but that proved to be a great time to go! the atmosphere was very cozy, you didn't hear everyone around you which drives me crazy at other restaurants. our waitress was phenomenal at being able to pick up when we needed something without us even saying or doing anything. and the food- maine lobster for an appetizer, tenderloin & pheasant for our entrees then red apple & cheesecake for dessert. all highly recommended and very delicious choices!

thanksgiving a turkey flop!. dined on thanksgiving day 2014. ordered the turkey & dressing entree with no expectations. what i received was food that had been plated that had obviously been removed from the frig and i think intended to be room temperature but it still had a chill. the only thing that had been attempted to be heated was the turkey and based the dryness & toughness it appeared to be heated in the microwave. the plate overall was seasonless and the desert buffet was served directly from the frig in the same manner as everything else we ordered. in short, if this had been top chef the chef would have had "to pack their knives & go" if nothing else i expected impeccable service but that fell short too. our server seemed more interested in his regular diners than our table. he seemed a bit annoyed but i don't think it had anything to do with us. the one plus was a kids activity room and that was nice considering we had an 8yr old with us. overall thanksgiving dining was overpriced for the poor quality of cold food served. based on this meal i will never dine at the mansion on turtle creek again.

we finally used our “night out in dallas” winning bid we received from the caesar salad competition this past year. not only did we get to stay at the rosewood mansion on turtle creek, but our winning bid also included driving a brand new snazzy 2014 lexus is from sewell lexus of dallas . being first timers to the mansion, we couldn’t wait to investigate. there are many different rooms to choose from while staying at the rosewood mansion on turtle creek. in case anyone is wondering, we were in the deluxe room, which is the least-best room offered at this particular mansion. our room could be considered somewhat basic in terms of having a full blown hoity-toity hotel room in a humongous mansion. this translates into a first world mansion problem. the bed in our room was beyond luxuriously comfortable, with sheets possessing at least a 5 billion thread count, so hey– who is complaining?

we arrived at 2 pm so we could only order from the bar menu. hubby & i ordered a variety of dishes to share. the shrimp cocktail was great. the horseradish panna cotta complimented the shrimp perfectly. the tostadas & truffled fries were both really good but not extraordinary. the cheese board was extremely disappointing. more than anything the atmosphere was gorgeous. very romantic. this is a perfect "date restaurant". btw make sure to try the passion fruit tea. yum!

historic charm of another era. rosewood is practically a member of our family after getting married here. not being from texas, i didnt really know what i was getting into when picking a wedding venue. i saw the rosewood and thought it was one of the prettiest hotels i'd ever seen. and on the bid day, nothing about this place was below exceptional- the rooms, the food, the pool, decor, set up, hotel event coordinator, i could go on. since we basically moved in for a few days, we lived off of the restaurant food and didnt have a single dinner, lunch or brunch that wasnt fantastic.

the bar: one of the prettiest in dallas. it's also perhaps one of the oldest in the area (the hotel is actually a newer addition). the building has a beautiful, old wold charm. service at the bar, like the restaurant and hotel, is fantastic. but what really surprised me was the quality of the (cheap!) bar food. delicious, $5, duck crepes!

hit and miss. the mansion always receives a lot of praise, but honestly, it has been hit and miss for me. i enjoy a lot of flavors and spcey ones at that, but sometimes the combinations do not exactly complement one another. the proce is pretty much in line with others in dallas, but the wine list could use some updating.

not as good as i remembered.... ate here recently for my 5th wedding anniversary and was disappointed. the menu only had 4-5 entrees and everything was written out like an ingredient list (most were unrecognizable) rather than a description of the dish. my wife and thought we were splitting an appetizer that turned out to be soup! i remember the food being much better when i was here 6 years ago or so. i've heard they've gone through some different chefs - maybe they haven't found the right one yet.

the mansion: there is no substitute. this is the finest hotel and restaurant combination in dallas. the tortilla soup is legendary. on a recent visit i started with the lobster salad. highly recommend! it is exceptional. the duck is beyond compare. if you are in the mood you can't go wrong with the chef's tasting menu. make it an evening and stay at the mansion. you'll be glad you did. service: a+; atmosphere: a+; food: a+; rooms: a+

enough stuffy reviews.... it's race day and we are in need of "warrior fuel"... we decide to have brunch at the mansion restaurant @ the rosewood mansion on turtle creek. best decision of the day! perhaps the best-known restaurant in dallas and long-hailed as the best for fine dining, the mansion restaurant has been delighting guests since 1980. brunch is served on the terrace which offers al fresco fireside dining and lounging under a canopy of majestic oak trees, it's absolutely beautiful. most people require approximately 8-16 ounces of fluids 2 hours before the race... so, we order the mimosas and bellinis. i will also need plenty of additional liquids (body wt. x 55% = ounces) to endure the rigors of the dash and i order their "mansion tortilla soup" their "signature dish" - outstanding. realizing the need to carb-load to increase my glycogen store - the grilled kobe shell steak, chimichuri, steak fries and watercress salad fits the bill perfectly. we now won't have time for the 30 minute pre-race snack so, we order the mansion candy bar brownie, peanut croquant, chocolate mousse, lime-coconut sorbet and strawberry shortcake... this should keep us from starting the race hungry! we waddle to the starting line...

cost: $$$$

food: chef bruno davaillon continually redefines his cuisine by weaving the foods and techniques of contemporary american cuisine with french influences

service: service is subtle but impeccable and the royal treatment keeps this dallas institution at the top of its' game

decor: the hilltop mansion, usually lauded as the most desirable hotel in dallas, is luxury personified with marble floors, inlaid wood ceilings and stained-glass windows
