if you want some pretty amazing food...  get your butts into roots.  this place is a fantastic little hidden gem on the square.  we were craving something different at work this afternoon and i must say that the cuban sandwich is the closest thing i've seen to authentic outside of miami.  twin liquors on austin ave. gives you guys 2 thumbs up!

went here last week for lunch at the recommendation of an adjacent shop owner, and was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food for the price.

i had the lunch combo of a half chicken salad sandwich and cup of tomato basil soup. both were excellent, the chicken salad was freshly made and flavorful, and the soup was delicious and hot. my companion had the half hippie veggie sandwich, which was served on a crunchy baguette roll with fresh veggies and cheese, and served warm, and potato chips for the side. yum. the cashier also stopped by our table to ask if everything was alright, a nice touch.

with drinks, the entire tab was less than $20, something you don't find much anymore. wish there was one in austin, but when we're in g'town, we'll be back to roots!

roots-need to get back to basics. was really excited to try this new place but what a let down. there aren't any servers so you have to get up and go to the counter when you want another beer. they sure don't make it easy to spend your money. food is bland and over priced. i don't go out often so when i do, i would like a nice experience. have had better customer service at mcdonalds. too many places out there to waste your time and money.

great changes, great food!. finally someone is doing something incredibly right on the square in downtown georgetown. i have lived here for 29 years, and seen many come and go, but this one should stay! now that the bistro is under new management and a new name (roots), the bistro experience has gone from good to great. the space is now open and inviting, the decor is pleasing, and the pizza and sandwiches have never been better!

best lunch in gtown!!!. definitely my favorite lunch spot in gtown! how can you go wrong here, with yum food in an artsy and fun atmosphere? the bistro features an extensive menu including favorites like panini and philly cheese steak sandwiches, a huge selection of salads, pizza and a delicious selection of desserts! this place is the heartbeat of the downtown square, bring your laptop for the free wifi or just hang and enjoy the friendly gatherings happening all day long. bonus: don't miss the amazing art adorned on the bistro walls and the adorable adjoining boutique!

two thumbs up!!. i don't live in the austin area, but whenever i come visit family i always stop in georgetown at down the alley for the italian grinder, or the round top sirloin with blue cheese.. yum!! my new favorite is the chicken salad sandwich, it's definitely worth it give it a try! the new atmosphere and look of the bistro is cozy, relaxing and makes for a nice little hang out place. will definitely come back!

a must try!!!. i love to go hang out here! great atmosphere, fun people, good food! a fun place to chill for lunch, 1st fridays are always fun. the bistro holds many great events and there's a fun shop to visit, as well! amore' boutique! just all around great place!

a fantastic spot on the square. the sandwiches are the absolute best. my favs are the tuscan turkey and the reuben. one of the most comfortable places to relax with friends. louanne is a great hostess!

dont waste your time!. i tried the food at down the alley bistro a couple times. you get small portion sizes and its pretty pricey for what you do get. plus the food isn't even very good. i have family and friends that refuse to eat there because they were so dissatisfied with the restaurant overall.
