on our way through madison ilookedfor a place that served breakfast near the interstate and decided to give this a try. we are ever so glad we did. my husband raved about the restaurant for about half an hour after we left. here's the breakdown:
food: delicious and had variety of items that aren't just the same thing you get everywhere else. i had the stuffed french toast, which was french toast filled with a mascarpone/cream cheese mixture; i chose the strawberry topping. loved it. i would have been just as happy with fresh strawberries rather than a strawberry sauce, but even the sauce wasn't too sweet, so i liked it, and most people like things much sweeter than i do so i think most people would like this. certainly my husband, who finished off the last third of my plate because i was stuffed, had no complaints. my husband had the southwest scramble; i tried it, too. we both loved it, very flavourful. two of my kids had the crepes with nutella and strawberries. one said she loved it, the other said it was awesome but she didn't love it. i don't know what that means but she's my fussiest eater so if she finishes something it must be good. my third kid had the kids' grilled cheese. pretty basic and hard to go wrong; no complaints from him. we wish we lived in madison so we could eat there again. my only suggestion for improvement would be the use of whipped cream rather than whipped topping, and real cheese instead of processed; however, i realize that's probably one of my foodie quirks that may not be shared with the rest of the population. great coffee.
portion sizes: generous. as i noted, i couldn't finish mine.
prices: we were pleased.
service: very friendly staff, they genuinely seemed to enjoy working there. times for taking our order and getting our food were great. log cabin interior felt cozy and the place seemed clean.

i would come back, next trip!. traveling from tomah back to chicago.lookedfor a non-chain eatery where i would pay for the food after i ate it. close to the highway.

saw this place on urbanspoon with respectable scores. i stopped, had the house salad, a cup of chili, and some apple pie. ok, the pie was a wildcard for me and was delicious! house salad was fresh. chili was good too. service was fast and friendly. easy place to like. other lunch dinerslookedlikethey were enjoying themselves.

the menulookedvaried. maybe next time i'll get the bluegill basket. only in wisconsin can you get fried bluegill and a side of cheese curds.
