very disappointing. we were told by the staff at the hotel that this restaurant was a five star four diamond restaurant. i am writing this with that in mind.

we arrived at dinner at around nine, my mother and father, and my fiancé. the restaurant was loud, almost deafening. this is understandable during a memorial day weekend, but having to shout to speak to someone four feet away does not make for the most exquisite of dining experiences.

as we sat down, and opened up our menus, it became clear that the prices indeed were five star, running at i believe thirty six dollars for the largest of the filets, which immediately caught my eye. at any rate, we all ordered. i actually decided, with the pricing, that even with my father paying, as it was my mother's birthday dinner, i still could not spring for a thirty six dollar fillet, so i decided to order a hamburger instead; switched the chedder for swiss, add bacon. jennifer, my fiancé, did the same. my mother ordered a pizza, the carnivore on their menu, and my father ordered the fillet.

upon receiving our food, my father commented that my mother's steak was better, a marinade of a simple soy sauce based marinade called dale's. my hamburger, as well, was incorrect, still having cheddar on it after i had asked that it come with swiss as well. my mother did enjoy her pizza, and it was indeed good, although still nothing to compare to agoodpizza joint, or even vinnie van go go's down the street. the hamburgers, by mutual agreement between jennifer and myself, were decent, at best, certainly nothing meriting a ten plus price tag. in essence, they were the regular fare you would find at any pub or bar, save that they were more expensive.

we also ordered desert after that, with some difficulty. my mother ordered the chocolate lava cake, which came out looking like, for all intents and purposes, a chocolate muffin filled with fudge, with whipped cream on top. jennifer and i also considered ordering dessert, but the waitress could not give us any more information as to what exactly "chia" creme brulee tasted like, other than defining the dish with itself.

the service, as well, was decent to sub par; there were several times that i was without a beverage, despite having only ordered water. several times throughout the meal, when i needed assistance from the waitress, she would ask one person at the table a question, and then walk off before anyone else could ask for her help. i recall this happening exactly twice, once when i was trying to ask more water, and once when attempting to order desert for jennifer and myself. her mannerisms were brief and dismissive, her eyes moving to the next table before even finishing her work with ours. when we attempted to order desert, after finally getting her back over to the table to complete the order, as she had walked off while we were speaking, we attempted to question her as to what "chai" creme brulee tasted like. she wasn't able to be very helpful, and as the menu listed no description save the name, failed miserably to enlighten us in any way as to what the desert might taste like.

all things considered, with the average fare, the lack of quality or, considering its five star rating, lack of outstanding service, coupled with the incredibly high price tag, i would have to rate this place one star. i've seen the other reviews, but in the case of my visit to the restaurant, it was a large disappointment, and none of our group actually enjoyed the overall experience of the meal, save in brief bouts, quickly whisked away by sheer annoyance at one point or another

my family and i were in town visiting from atlanta this past weekend, strolling up and down river street in search of a reallygooddining experience - a step up from the one we had the night before at fiddlers. (the service was good, but the food was okay.) we decided to go with rocks on the river, more specifically after seeing that it scored a 4.0+ right here on zomato. although the restaurant seemed mostly empty upon arrival (sunday evening), we were told that it'd be a 15 minute wait. no problem, especially since we were welcomed to pass the time by their rooftop bar until our table was ready. the weather was nice, the view was awesome, and the waitress who came to assist us was friendly and ready to take our drink and appetizer orders. we were contemplating whether we wanted to just stay up there and eat, or go back downstairs, where we had wider menu options to choose from. as soon as our 15 minutes were up, we decided to eat downstairs. chad, our waitor, was friendly, and took our drink orders. (mind you, the restaurant is still fairly empty.) and for the next 1.15 hrs, that's all he did - kept refilling our drinks - probably to fill us up and detract from the fact that we still hadnt received our dinner orders yet. and it worked, because we didn't notice how much time had passed in betweengoodconversation. eventually we started taking note of people who had come in after us, and how they were in and out. now i dont know if its because our party was a little darker then everyone else there, (although i didnt get that vibe from the restaurant) or if it was because 6 of us were splitting the bill 4 ways, and chad felt it would affect his tip - all in all it was totally inexcusable. the food finally came out, and it took us about 15 minutes to finish eating and paying for our meals, which they deducted $52 from total. it wasgoodbut not great, and it was warm - as if it had been ready for some time - waiting to be served. if not for the wait, id pob give it a 3.0. would i come back again? if i couldn't find an awesome rooftop experience elsewhere, maybe! for views, drinks, appetizers ... but to dine in the main restaurant? of course not!! that wait was terrrrribbbllleeeeee!!! especially on a very chill sun, where for the most part, not too many people were. the roof was where the crowd was - i guess there were more than a few reasons for that. the busy sat before, maybe id understand the wait, and even then, an 1.15 is ridiculous! but a quiet sun evening?? we got there at 7:30, left around 9ish!!! i guess my advice would be one or more of the following: (1) dont have chad as your waitor, (2) be of lighter complexion and/or (3) dont split your check 4+ ways. the end. ☺☺☺

this is one of thegoodrestaurants on river street. the atmosphere is clean, upscale and modern, and the location is in the heart of the the action on the famous river street. they had a restaurant week special where you could order am appetizer, entree and dessert for a total of $30. i started with a yellow tomatoe gazpacho, whch was served as a chilled soup, absent of any vegetable chunks. it had a fruity melon accent flavor and was refreshing. my entree was a grouper, with a delicate texture. i finished with a chocolate carmel pecan cake which was rich but not overwhelmingly rich. it's always fun to get a drink at rocks on the roof before or after dinner. overall agoodexperience and one of our more frequently visited river street restaurants.

wonderful meal for a special occasion. service was excellent and the food superb. we planned a trip to savannah for the wife's birthday and happened to be here at the beginning of "restaurant week". what a piece of luck. they have a $30 menu at dinner and most of the restaurants that participate also have a $15 menu for lunch. it is quite agoodvalue. we had the 5oz filet with blackened shrimp added. all the food was cooked perfectly and the presentation was marvelous. highly recommended.

\as we were looking for a nice place for dinner, jo was facebooking with one of her friends about savannah.  i heard what was written and thought that her friend suggested that we eat at rocks on the river (in the grand bohemian).  i booked reservations and was feeling prettygoodabout myself.  as we walked into the lobby of the grand bohemian (which is a great looking hotel, by the way) from bay street, she said “i thought we were going to vick’s.”   i explained that the fb message she read to me mentioned rocks on the river.  she pointed out that it did, as a point of reference to get to the other place.  doh! there are two “rocks” restaurants in the grand bohemian – on the river, which is, literally, on the river, right on river street and on the roof, which is on the roof.  (i hope they didn’t pay much to the marketing company that came up with those names.)

massive disappointment. where to start?

pretentious. crowded. not enough tables for all the people. that's thegoodpart.

being on river street doesn't warrant or justify bad food, stiff prices, and poor quality.

want to pay $10 for a chicken wrap that isn't any better than the one you get for $2.50 at a local fast food restaurant? well, then this place is for you.

the wrap was bland, nearly tasteless, served on a warm place that left the wrap greasy.

to finish off the experience, expect the server to add 20% to the bill "just because" and then they have the audacity to leave a space for you to add more - just in case you missed the 20% they already added.

do yourself a favor. avoid it. the best advise i can give is hope the next restaurant in that space offers a small measure of value..

nice variety in the menu.. so, rocks has agoodsized menu covering a lot of ground. it had an okay wine list and a standard cocktail list. while the very attractive servers do their job well, the transition and communication from servers to runners needs a little help. i watched the table next to me failed to be marked for steak. their main came before their salad, and my starter plates were not cleared before my main came. two tables down from me was more of the same. their food came while they were still eating their starters. i really hate it when a kitchen uses "timing" from course to course rather than having the servers call for the next course to be fired and the table cleared and/or marked.

but, the food is good. the spatzel and chicken was rather good, it reminded me of my childhood. the she crab soup was also rather nice with a fair amount of crab albeit the soup was really thick, almost like a puree. overall i must throw this one on the pile of places to eat in savannah.

horrible service!!! the host is very rude and pretentious. he neglected to inform me of the 20 minute wait when i arrived so i didn't put our name on the list while my husband was parking. i stood at the hostess counter while he was wrapping silverware for agood4 minutes before he even acknowledged my presence. rude! when we were finnally seated our waitress wasn't much better. she hardly ever came to check on us and our drink orders were wrong. i was embarrassesd i had asked our friends to meet us here. none of us will be going back!
