reuben's

we've been to reuben's on a number of occasions and have enjoyed each visit. the staff are always friendly and the service is good. the decor is also fun and creative.

on this occasion i just had a starter of prawns and stuart had the pork belly. both were lovely. we will be back if we are in franschhoek anytime soon!

had an amazing dinner last night. second time at reuben's and will go again. the service was great and the food excellent! the waitress chose our wine to go with the lamb shank and it was perfect and the dessert was delicious.

from the moment we arrived we were welcomed with open arms! we hadn't booked (during high season!) and yet they accommodated us willingly. staff were friendly and excellently trained and the food was out of this world (i would highly recommend the beetroot risotto to vegetarians).

reubens is a must stop for my wife and i when we travel to franschhoek. over the years it has never disappointed and has always been a great food experience. can honestly say that everything on the menu is amazing. the sommelier completes the dinning experience.

oh wow!!!!! so glad we made a booking...so many people turn away. the ambiance the food the service oh what a must when visiting franshoek. the signature dish poek belly meltsvin your mouth. oh i want to stay here for ever!!

after an awesome experience on the wine tram decided to have dinner at reubens with my girlfriend. fish was ok but the chicken had 2 hairs in it and was tasteless. sent it back. coffee is terrible. average food at inflated prices. such a shame as the venue is nice.

what impressed me the most about reuben's was seeing reuben himself sweating over the stove cooking my food. it's not often that a celebrity chef actually cooks in his own kitchen. he served lovely, honest food. our 8 year old enjoyed the kids menu which was a refreshing change from the usual fish fingers and chips.

i had a fabulous dinner here over the weekend. delicious and beautifully presented food, great service and comfy chairs i might add. i enjoyed a chicken liver parfait for starters - the portion size was bigger than i expected, (far more than i could have eaten) but it was very tasty. my main was the pork belly which was fantastic. another highlight of the evening was being allowed a quick peek into the kitchen after service and meeting chef reuben himself! everyone at the table enjoyed their meals with lots of clean plates going back to the kitchen. i hope to go back!

we had a fantastic lunch at reuben's in the cute courtyard. the food was magical, all the flavours worked really well. the chicken liver parfait was amazing. the wait staff were great and just the right amount of attention. so glad we got to experience such a wonderful lunch.

spent a week in the cape with my parents coming down from austria. we were based in franschhoek so a stop at reuben's was a must. for me this was the second time there and i must say that in an entire week filled with gastronomic adventure galore, this was the one disappointment.
the food was good. that's straight off the bat. not as good as it's said to be, though. and definitely not compared to some of the other restaurants in the area we visited.
the service, however, was downright terrible. the only bad experience we had in a week touring the cape. the front of house is a complete disaster. the manager is doubling up as a waiter and has no time directing the waitrons (or making the guests feel welcome). waitrons seem not to care too much about visiting patrons. our waiter in particular made us wait for everything and showed us no attention whatsoever. the whole atmosphere was flat. all staff run around with automaton faces. nobody smiles. very disappointing.
my advice for mr riffel: write even more cookbooks and do spice ads. your fire as a restauranteur is out. milk it while it lasts.

i was so happy to get some proper malt whiskey in me after days of wine tasting. and they had one of my favorites too - glenmorangie lasanta, which isn't common to find in franschhoek/ most other areas in cape town i visited. the highlight was the food though, despite being personally limited by my dietary choices (i'm vegetarian).

you're better off with a reservation.

we enjoyed the night out, the service was good, i enjoyed the chilli calamari as a appetizer and the calf's liver as a main. the liver was cooked to perfection. all together an enjoyable relaxing evening good food and wine.

was quite fortunate to walk past and ask for a table and they had one! the food was great but found the pork belly a tad too sweet but everything we tried was great! highly recommended

my expectations of the look an feel were off the mark, and i was disappointed... average if i were to be generous with my opinion. they had fabulous fabulous food, my expectations were absolutely surpassed. service to me, however, is probably as important as the food and they were just dreadful. nobody greeted or seated me, eventually i had to call and request a menu. i ordered a red cappuccino and requested honey 3 times from 2 different people and it just never came. i returned an empty mug and told her not to worry about the honey. i didn't get so much as an insincere apology. i honestly cannot fault their food, but even with that, i can't say that i would revisit or reccomend it.

i was really lucky to get to have dinner at reuben's this evening. the service was really good. we were served with a bread board before starters. i didn't have any but the rest of my table said the breads and spread were delicious.

i didn't have a starter but everyone that did raved about it. my main was the pan fried line fish. it was superb! such delicious, clean flavors and cooked to perfection. served hot too. i was very impressed.

for dessert i had the chocolate tart, it was very yummy but really rich.

portion sizes were really decent which i wasn't expecting but was very pleased with. and food was presented beautifully!

i will most certainly be back!
