my fave japanesebbqbuffet in sydney! friendly service, top notch meat quality and you orders the foods through ipads. so yes, order away any dishes during buffet as much as u want 😬😬 what amaze me is their exhaust system. i can even bring my 5mo baby there since there barely is any smoke from the bbq.

my fave wud be their ox tongue and beef outside skirt and alsooo the pork ribs 😍

(1.5/5.0) rengaya is an upscale japanese restaurant in north sydney. the posh and contemporary restaurant features an elegant and rustic interior fitted with wooden table tops and lots of greenery. the menu offers a set of typical japanesebbqand an assortment of sashimi.

i ordered a bowl of unagi-mabushi, or a bowl of typical rice served with chopped eel, ginger, shallot and japanese pepper. first, the rice was not the high-grade japonica rice which exudes a naturally sweetness and fragrance. it is extremely disturbing to know that i can eat them easily on street hawkers in singapore and malaysia. second, the eel was simply stale and mushy. there was neither a natural freshness nor texture to the eel.

north sydney is known for its abundance of high quality japanese food and rengaya is a perfect example. rengaya is a japanesebbqrestaurant and  is known for its premium wagyu beef and seafood. this is one of my family’s favourite restaurants and we have been here many times and i will go through our two most recent visits in this post.

rengaya's japanesebbqbuffet in north sydney is incredible. i'd say it's the best buffet i've ever had in sydney. at $86 p/head it's on the pricey side but the value from the super fresh seafood is worth it. i'm talking about gigantic juicy prawns, scallops and mussels.

we haven't even gotten to the premium grade wagyu beef, pork, duck and chicken. well marinated and fresh.

did i also mention there's sashimi, udon, beef soup, ice cream and yes it's all you can eat via touch screen order. you get 2 hrs and last order 1.5 hrs in.

i've been to this restaurant 4 times and have never been disappointed.

well.... a lot of people say rengaya is one of the best japanesebbqplaces. in my opinion, not really. i mean if you are into marbled beef meat, you might like this place. i think it's bit pricy and rip off. marbled meat was tender but they were too fatty (of course) and rich for me and i had to say i didn't enjoy that much. it's good to try it out if you've never tasted marbled meat but otherwise i think it's not worth what you are paying for. services and atmosphere are good though.

dine in experience was super disappointed. we had order sashimi, bbq and soba. however, we had waited for 30 mins for ourbbqto come and another 20min for our soba to come. i don't understand why raw meat and basic dishes like soba would take 30mins to prepare. if this is the service that rengaya can provide, i wonder how can u qualified yourself as australia' s first and finestbbqrestaurant. indeed, waiters of rengaya are unqualified, u need to remind them for several times before they can bring you your drinks. don't give us reason like today is busy, if you can't cope with all ur orders, then don't open such a big restaurant. a real high quality restaurant should not put profit making as their first priority. for me, rengaya is not worth trying, and me and my friends are all very disappointed.

i like theirbbqnet design very much. first it is coal based net, second and more importantly, you don't suffer much smoke. i guess their coal is of pretty good quality. later my friend and i discovered that they have a circle of quiet exhaust fan that takes away the smoke after it gives the meat the smoke flavour. as to the food, the wagyu beef is highly recommended. the premium wagyu ox tongues is twice the price of the special ones, but also tastes two (or three) times better... good value of money. the ginger pork slice was just alright, esp compared with the wagyu... the radish power goes well with their ponzu vinegar. (i love their vinegar! )

this japanesebbqrestaurant is situated in the heart of north sydney with a stunning outlook at the sydney harbour bridge from certain tables. the restaurant is a large space catering to groups of any size, with a range of different sized tables all with the bbq’s in the centre. it is great to have a meal sitting around  the bbq, although evolved human kind has been doing it as soon as we discovered fire.

one thing better then korean bbq?

japanese bbq!

the older bro restaurant of martin places suminoya is really an upgraded version. the quality is superior in every way - some of the best qualitybbqmeat in sydney.

the side dishes are also pretty decent here, i suggest the broths and tartare.

go for the all you can eat if you are feeling hungry.

this place is quite pricey and the service is not the best but this place is quality.

have been here in past but only for a-la-carte. went today to try thebbqbuffet that's offered at $86 pp. time restriction of 2hrs eating time and last orders taken at 90mins. food items are chosen using an ipad which is great, also shows how long u have left to order and eat, plus they have reminders towards the finish time. items ordered came very quickly, they had plenty of staff on hand and were very attentive.
the buffet of wagyu range from wagyu beef rib finger, rump steak, flap, outskirt and a few others. i found the flap meat to be the most tender followed by the rump. the other cuts had a lot of muscle chewy and hard to swallow bits. sashimi was very fresh and served with fresh wasabi.
oh their vanilla ice cream is made with real vanilla bean, and the strawberry ice cream with real fruit pieces. yum
overall is it's good but i will not return for the buffet, it's very similar to its chain suminoya which offers an very similar menu and is only $60pp.
will stick to just ordering a la carte when i return, they have amazing wagyu grade 9+ that just melts in your mouth. (obviously not offered in their buffet menu, i wish! 😂)
