rengaya is the place to go for the best wagyu in sydney, and as a result, is the best japanese yakiniku (bbq) in sydney. it’s not in the same league as wagyu in japan, but at least you’ll be playing the same sport.

quality of the food (especially the wagyu) and decor of this premium japanese bbq buffet is exceptional and popular, however the positives really stops here. make sure you check your order after a reasonable wait time because they forgot our drinks and salad dishes. if you are going for their popular buffet bbq with a group of friends and your reservation is past 7:30pm then don't bother. after being asked to "cook quickly" numerous times by the waitress because they're closing at 10pm on a saturday and having paid the bill in advance (staff insisted that we pay at 10pm), the staff shut off the gas to our cooker with meat still being cooked and turned the vents off at 10:26pm. when we first arrived all that we were told was that we have 90 min to order and last order was at 9pm. none of us were told (or written anywhere) that we would be forced out when they closed. given the nice decor, range of drinks, good food and premium price we thought we could have a fun 2hrs but we were wrong.

the lunch menu is expensive, so it is good if you're on a work meeting or taking clients. the quality of the food is great and the menu is pretty safe for people that are not particularly fans of or familiar with japanese food. i always have the chirashi sushi as it is delicately prepared and good value.

i think i finally understand what michelangelo meant. i mean, i was never really good at art history, but when faced with such beauty, i think there’s no way i can miss what he meant. because surely, he was talking about the marble in a 9+ piece of wagyu beef right?.

took the yakiniku buffet here tonight,to be frank,in comparison to the buffet from nishiki and/or suminoya, the buffet here was really just so so… being more expensive, but less sashimi options and no dessert option on the buffet menu is really a shame. btw,the wagyu here was not as surprising as expected. (the scampi is of course not on the buffet menu=p)

went for lunch and ordered lunch box. i had tempura box which comes with agendashi tofu, salmon sashimi, tataki, miso soup and rice. tempura was really nice but others was average. maybe should of ordered yakiniku instead. service was pretty good, atmosphere was good (except for very old carpet).

end of financial year dinner with the company! before our boss suggested anything, there was a sudden inspiration that hit us all (the staff of course). we wanted meat, bbq meat! as for the boss, he prefers buffet as it is easier for a huge group to eat out together, than taking an hour to decide on what dishes to order, and this will ensure that we will all be well fed, satisfied and happy before heading home.

my favourite place to japanese bbq! well worth the 25 minute drive from my place. always good quality meat and exceptional side dishes. bit on the pricey side so when i only come when i have a few extra bucks in my wallet or else i just go to their cheaper sister restaurant suminoya

came here for work lunch. great restaurant, friendly staff and great lunch menu. had a teriyaki chicken bento box and it was more than enough! servings was big and their side dishes that came with the bento box was delicious. had their green tea ice cream to finish. also saw they had shabu shabu on their menu. would definately come back to try dinner or even japanese bbq.

had the wagyu buffet, serve was tiny, and food quality was just as bad as service. not worth $70/pp, not even worth half of it. will not come back.

rengaya is part of the chain that owns suminoya and the japanese yakinuku bbq is just as great here as in the city. the restaurant caters mostly for a corporate crowd with prices to match but it's hard to find anywhere in sydney that serves wagyu beef of such high quality.

dined in this famous japanese restaurant located at north sydney from my friend's recommendation. nice set-up and wait-staff are attentive and friendly. tried the all-you-can-eat buffet and was surprised by the plenty of foods offered in the menu, which i can order and enjoy within 2 hours limit. i appreciate that this restaurant does not give you impression like other restaurants who do the same buffet system. they take your order with pleasure and serve you the food as quick as possible. quality of meat is superb and other hot foods on the menu are tasteful ( i like the porridge).

been going here for around 4 years now and i have to say they are probably 1 of the best bbq restaurant i've ever been to. granted it's a little bit on the expensive side but if you are a meat lover, you won't be disappointed.

one restaurant that both dk and i agree has some of the best wagyu beef on offer in sydney is rengaya in north sydney, which has been around for years and consistently serves up premium japanese bbq in a classy setting. you can usually smell rengaya before you see it- a delicious aroma of sizzling beef usually wafts down towards the street from the restaurant to greet you as you approach the restaurant.
