yum! the sashimi is very fresh! for those who don’t eat raw seafood, try the eel don and the bbq! remember to order dessert especially green tea lover. but the food there is a bit expensive :(

great place, dining was amazing. quality of food is executional. service great. not too pricey for the wallet, overall a great dining experience.

i really like the ox tounge so much. it was thick and juicy. price wise it’s not really expensive so i will definietly come back. however, the flat top wagyu of beef (i can’t remember the name) was a little bit tough. my favorite will be the ox tounge and the pork belly. we also got complementary scallop and salmon so thankyou rengaya!

attracted by its high rating 4.5 as zomato, i believe is a trustful app. very disappointed. environment and decor are not up to typical japanese restaurant. food hygiene issue - my partner had a diarrhea a few hours after dinner there. restroom hygiene conditions bad ! chef selection set menu -$120 per person! premium beef looked great but we did not feel good as they came in the last course before dessert! disappointed, i will tell friends not to go to rengaya

my fave japanese bbq buffet in sydney! friendly service, top notch meat quality and you orders the foods through ipads. so yes, order away any dishes during buffet as much as u want 😬😬 what amaze me is their exhaust system. i can even bring my 5mo baby there since there barely is any smoke from the bbq.

my fave wud be their ox tongue and beef outside skirt and alsooo the pork ribs 😍

one of the best corporate lunches i’ve ever had! service is spotless and food is simply delicious. tbh it was my first diy bbq japanese lunch, but after this i’m a fan! so delicious, nutritious and so much fun at the same time! can’t wait to get back ❤️

we love this place! amazing quality wagyu meat! nice a comfortable atmosphere. you actually walk in and out not smelling like bbq!
the place has a very cool authentic japanese vibe. we will definitely be back again.

(1.5/5.0) rengaya is an upscale japanese restaurant in north sydney. the posh and contemporary restaurant features an elegant and rustic interior fitted with wooden table tops and lots of greenery. the menu offers a set of typical japanese bbq and an assortment of sashimi.

i ordered a bowl of unagi-mabushi, or a bowl of typical rice served with chopped eel, ginger, shallot and japanese pepper. first, the rice was not the high-grade japonica rice which exudes a naturally sweetness and fragrance. it is extremely disturbing to know that i can eat them easily on street hawkers in singapore and malaysia. second, the eel was simply stale and mushy. there was neither a natural freshness nor texture to the eel.

nice environment. i like the barbecues (choose beef rather than pork). sashimi don is just okay (which looks better than it tastes). staff could be more friendly.

went here to celebrate my partner’s birthday.

we had buffet. as we love wagyu, we ordered mainly meat, which was very nice and juicy. the ox tongue was really nice but it would be better if thick sliced one is included in the buffet menu.

one disappointment was that when we ordered ice cream at the end, they seemed to forget our order and we waited for 10 min for two ice cream balls. would recommend mango flavour.

you know you’re getting old when your whole fam plays ‘scissors, papers, rock’-loser has to drive and can’t drink. came here for dad’s annual work dinner last year. i think this is my fourth time here. i think for sydney standards, they do decent quality wagyu beef here, with around 8 different cuts, plus other protein and jap side dishes to choose from.

north sydney is known for its abundance of high quality japanese food and rengaya is a perfect example. rengaya is a japanese bbq restaurant and  is known for its premium wagyu beef and seafood. this is one of my family’s favourite restaurants and we have been here many times and i will go through our two most recent visits in this post.

con: the quality of the meat is good
pro: -the price is not justifiable as to the quantity of meat in one dish ( even the high quality evening buffet in suminoya has better price and better quality of meat)
-the dessert is simply plain and unrefined, unable to be considered as a good completion at the end of one meal.
-i also tried the salmon and fish roe rice as well as one beef soup (i forgot their specific names) and i feel just so so. the fish roe didn't taste very fresh to be honest.

in a nutshell, i feel most of the rating should be dedicated to its above-average meat quality and the quiet ambience. however to be fair, you can find many other japanese restaurants that are more justifiable for a rating for 4.0 away from this area😊.
