regatta on avon

visited for lunch,parking is not the best because of earthquake repairs/roadworks. we had excellent service.a wide range of drinks and menu.food was delicious and well priced. will definitely be back.friendly waitresses and warm decore!

my husband and i dined at regatta on avon last night, 21st may 2014. we first ordered a bread and dips selection which was fabulous. i then had the pork belly main which was absolutely yummy and my husband had the market fish which he said was beautifully cooked with a lovely flavoured sauce. we shared chocolate torte for desert and this also was outstanding.
the decor was fabulous and the staff and service were excellent.
we would love to go again, as the menu selection is very tempting.

we have just been there today mothers day, with my hubby's mum and dad and my mum. the 5 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the service. the 2 mums had the salmon and it was cooked perfectly. hubby had the burger, father-inlaw had the big brekky and i had the pulled pork bun with fries. absolutely delicious!. hubby and mum both had the lemon and berry cake which i had a taste of and it melted in my mouth. coffee was great although just warm which is my only negative. can't wait to go there again as the prices were reasonable.

my partner and i had a booking for saturday 10 may 2014. we loved the decor and the service was great, really friendly waitress and we didn't have to wait long for our meal but we were very disappointed with our meals unfortunately. wondered if we were just a bit unlucky with our dishes? i had rib eye steak, which was far too rare and very hard to cut and had lots of gristle. it was my worst steak ever. my partner had a rice dish and didnt enjoy the sauce it was with.

will will come back but next time we will only have a drink.

went out on a friday night with a group of 8 and on first arrival we were very surprised to find the restaurant completely empty and it remained that way for the whole duration of our stay (approx. 2 hours) which we found odd at first, but now it makes perfect sense. we ordered our food which took 45 minutes to come out, my steak was very fatty around the edges and i asked for it medium rare; it came out well done, on top of that, my food was only just warm enough to eat, steak is best served hot off the press but mine probably sat there for a good 20 minutes or so before it got to me. a side salad with little to no seasoning that took up 3/4 of the plate as well. everyone else was very underwhelmed with their food and experience too. the decor makes no sense either and there was no real atmosphere considering there were no other people or staff anywhere to be seen. awful experience and i will never come back or recommend to anyone.

great location, good place to sit on a sunny afternoon to enjoy a beer. we had the devonshire tea with what was honestly the best scones i have ever had. ever. can't wait to go back and try more of their food options, and the young lady serving us was just lovely too.

i have been here many times for the $12 special and it is my favourite.

the staff are extremely pleasant and polite and ask you during and after you meal if all is okay

the meal is presented beautiful, i was not sure what to expect for $12 but it looks more like $$$$ lunch ! presentation makes you enjoy it all the more.

i have tried 3 of the $12 menu selection and not once have i been disappointed. well done to making meals affordable in such a lovely location with excellent staff.

went here for lunch. i ordered a medium rare steak see pictures of result. staff were a bit slow and it was not that busy. i've returned over half my steak. other people i was with ordered a salad and fish and chips. they said theirs was "ok"

i'm glad i did not order the chicken.

would not recommend the steak and will not be returning.
ordered aged ribeye with potato and kumara gallette, pumpkin puree, shallots and wilted greens,at $36.
the meal looked nothing like the photo on the web site at all. the gallette had slid all side ways,only one shallot and that was still in its skin and the steak was truly awful! it had a huge piece of hard fat in the center,that was about a 1/5 of the steak and it was very tough and sinewy,it was cooked to medium rare as asked for. the place was near empty.
i complained about the steak,but got no response at all,other than a nervous smile from the young woman that served me. i really don't like handing over good money for such a bad return,its like food fraud.

mid spring in christchurch.  is there a better location in the city to be than regatta on a still saturday evening?  the views down to the meandering avon suggest that all is well in the world in a wodehouse-ian kinda way.  we arrived early, this meant that initially we couldn't order the fish of the day as the chef, "wasn't ready, yet."  we persisted and he relented. a thai inspired curry with monk fish, prawns and calamari was the outcome.  it was devine.  the heat worked well with the cooling evening, in our outdoor seating.  

i want to make special mention of their childrens' menu.  it's not advertised on their website.  it is one of the best i've found in this town.  there are four tempting choices; fish 'n' chips, beef / chicken skewers, chicken creamy pasta and roast of the day. the roast was supurb.  today's was pork.  the presentation was perfect. it was generously portioned.  there was a real understanding of what kids like to eat too.   a sundae followed, both for $12!  i'd have been stoked to have ordered this for myself!

9.1.16 i initially had these guys at 4.5 .  i went back for lunch today.  it was disappointing.  the 'service' was terrible - slow and unhelpful.   food was a mixture. pasta was forgettable - served lukewarm and bland.  pulled pork slider was good.  lasagne was ok.  the actual menu and what they have up on their website are different.

top little bar and restaurant. well, not so little. nice building, lovely grounds, good décor, right by the river. would be lovely on a summer's day. service was quiet but good. the fish and chips was excellent, and they have a good selection of beers and wines. had a very pleasant lunchtime.

we came here for our grabone deal for 3 course meal for $60. at first we were wondering what on earth would we get for that.. but when we turned up we were politely greeted to a lovely romantic ambience and seated at our tables. firstly, the touch to write my name on a card and attach it was absolutely sweet! it was such a nice thought to do. for starters i had the calamari and my partner had the popcorn chicken, both huge entrée portions ( i mean huge! ) and the salad was fresh and had a nice tingy asian dressing to it. the main came and it must of at least been a 350g sirloin or more! it was bigger than my face, packed with goods underneath and beside it. the only thing i didn't like were the sides were a little urgh. i would have been happy with mash and mushrooms instead of a mushroom covered in overly sweet caramelized onions! however, we barely got into it since the entrée was so big! - the waitress ended up thinking we didn't enjoy the meal as we left so much. last but not least the white chocolate and mixed berry cheesecake was divine, nice flavours that compliment each other with a scoop of nice vanilla icecream.i would definitely visit again on another deal! or without!thanks for the great hospitality!

good menu though not extensive. i had a fantastic steak dinner. the restaurant has a nice atmosphere and while not outstanding, the service was good with warm and friendly staff.

we dined here today 03/03/2015 as a pre - wedding lunch, there were 5 adults, from the moment we walked in, it was a disgusting atmosphere.  as we were all hungry we decided to give it a go, despite the spiteful looks.  we were given a chance to order drinks (which took forever to come out), and ordered our meals... took almost an hour for our meals to come out, and when they did, my fiance's steak was cold!!! disgusting service when one waitress is told off by another in front of us, at our table.  as a worker in chch hospo, i will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.  i now know not to ever go there again. as 3 of our group are from out of town, they were disappointed, and a terrible way to start their holiday for our wedding .

like it, shame tiffany's is gone though one of my old favs. but hopefully these guys can make this new cafe seen work. we had a very nice antipasti plater for 4, needed more dips and some garlic butter. but a nice selection of tasty morsels. menu look very well priced so i'll be back to sample it a bit more
