this was hands down the best bbq i have ever eaten. the ribs were literally falling off the bone, the brisket was unbelievably tender, and thesauceitself was crafted by the hand of god. definitely recommend!!!

the pulled chicken and the ribs are so flavorful they don't need sauce. however if you needsaucethey have some. memphis sweet and carolina are so perfect. one of two of the best bbq joints in lexington.

amazing!! ( must read). me and my fiancee just left red state bbq after our first time. i ordered the brisket with green beans and fries. the brisket was very tender and the green beans & fries were very good. my fiancee ordered the pulled pork with potato salad and cole slaw and loved it!! the memphis sweet bbqsaucewas to die for. we will definitely be back there. great friendly service. i do not understand the bad review for this place. it was great! sad service; willing to give it a second shot because of that bbq sauce. this place was highly recommended by a friend of mine, so the next time we were in the area we knew we had to hit it up. now as a caveat to this review, we were there at 8 pm on a sunday night, so i understand that the food was not going to be absolutely amazing and with that in mind--i really liked the sweet barbecuesauceit was very tangy and like honey and as someone who can't stand even the smallest amount of heat it was exactly what i was looking for. the potato salad was a touch on the vinegary side, but potato salad is one of those things where each persons preferences and personal history fall so much into the taste that my opinion can be construed as entirely biased. the corn pudding was a little sweet, but fairly decent. the pulled pork was a little heavy on the gristle, which i am not a fan of, but i think if we had come earlier we would have had a better pork selection.

that said, a friend of mine ordered an oktoberfest beer and it was skunky and off. they wouldn't let him return his drink unless he paid for the replacement. the waitress was sweet if a little bit flighty, but again, sunday night right before closing. i got the impression that this would've been an amazing place to eat saturday for lunch and i would definitely try it again.

for the wonderful review it had, i was slightly underwhelmed.

great bbq!. the service here was friendly and fast. the atmosphere was casual, the dining area was small enough to be cozy but bright and roomy enough to walk between full tables. the food was terrific. the ribs had a light smoky flavor without being overwhelming. there were threesaucechoices, carolina mustard sweet and spicy and better for chicken than pork. the texas sweetsaucenot too sweet and just enough spice, great on ribs. the memphis spicysaucehad a nice bite with a touch of sweetness to cut the fire. the ribs were tender, fall off the bone, perfect. i got the potato salad because a "bad" review on here mentioned that it had dill pickles and it was perfect, just the way i like it, very close to what i make at home. the baked beans were also good, as was the mac and cheese. the only downfall of the meal was the coleslaw, which was bland, my husband likes it sweet and i can eat it sweet or with a vinegar and oil type dressing, but the cream coleslaw at red state was neither, just not to our tastes! overall we had a great experience and a terrific meal and we will be visiting here often!! my husband grew up with kansas city bbq and he says it's really hard to impress him with bbq, but red state bbq definitely impressed him!

on point!!. wow! lived in lex all my life and a neighbor from ohio had to tell me about this spot! it was delicious! the pull pork sandwich and 2 sides $9.00. fresh potatoe fries were great. my slaw could have used a little more flavor so i asked for vinegar, well it could just been me but i like sweet slaw. tried thesauceyou put on yourself, i liked it alot. can't wait to go for ribs soon! i will recommend to my friends too, very glad it's so close. give it a try...don't dress up or you'll feel out of place. i loved it brought back memories of clifside in frankfort.

diamond in the rough. what a great find! i searched urbanspoon and came upon this little place only a 10 minute drive from my hotel. we headed out...the place was easy to find, but not near much else. the service was friendly and fast. the food - outstanding! my travel partner is from north carolina - so she knows bbq - and said this was top notch. three different sauces to choose from - the mustardsaucewas surprisingly my favorite since i love bbq sauce. overall - great experience and would visit again if i come to the lexington area.

was visiting from memphis and a friend suggested we give it a try. i had the pulled pork sandwich (slaw on the sandwich) and fries. it was very good! i used to live in lexington and ate at places that claimed to have "memphis style" barbecue. red state can make that claim! the portion was great, the meat was tender and had great flavor and the memphissaucecomplimented it perfectly. i highly recommend this place if you're craving a taste of memphis.

what sets red state apart is thesauceselection; they have about a half-dozen choices, including mustard-based, vinegar-based, and tomato-based of varying heats

best bbq in central kentucky!. so far i've tried the ribs, pulled chicken, and pulled pork and all were outstanding. in fact, the ribs were just about cooked to perfection. for sides both the slaw and the mac and cheese were good - the real standout, however, is the baked beans cuz they've got as much bbq prk in them as they do beans! good stuff! the sweetsauceisn't really that sweet, and the spicysauceisn't remotely spicy, but they are both pretty tasty all the same. my big quibble is the lack of mutton and the excessively "texas" decor for a kentucky bbq joint.
