don't be fooled by the exterior of this restaurant! this is what a bbqplaceis supposed to be. all the food is great and the portions are what you should get! other bbq joints need to visit thisplaceto learn what kind of food and portions people really want! keep up the good work red state!

concerned consumer. tried out red state bbq after reading all the reviews and was surprised to find just the opposite.. when we first pulled in we noticed the surroundings. it's located outside a run down motel and the outside wasn't very attractive but we gave it a try anyway due to the reviews we figured nothing but good could be inside. once inside we was greeted by our waitress who seemed friendly at first. she was a young thin girl she introduced herself as holly or haley. haley i think. we ordered some drinks some frickles for our appetizer and a rib dinner and sides for our entrees. our drinks came fast but it took us forever to receive our frickles and when we finally did they was cold and tasted of old oil but we ate them anyways hoping our entrees would be better. long after our order was already placed almost twenty minutes later our waitress comes to inform us there was no more ribs so we ordered brisket instead feeling bummed. took us forever to get our brisket our sides was cold and not that good our brisket was raw our service slow took forever to get our waitress back to the table to switch our brisket in for pulled pork. our waitress's only concern was flirting with any guy in the restaurant that gave her attention. we observed that all of her customers where being neglected while she seemed more concerned to talking to all the guys in theplacethan noticing our brisket was raw or getting us a refill in our cokes. the manager aslo was present in the dining room but never checked on us as well and never seemed to notice that our waitress was too distracted to give her customers service guess this behavior is customary in this establishment. there was several kids in the restaurant along with my own and was really uncomfortable when to our horror we overhead our waitress using foul language while chatting with other employees at the counter. i'll never bring my children back into thisplacewouldn't advise anyone to do so either. if it wasn't bad enough when we finally paid our bill used the restroom and made our way out to our car we walked past our waitress out in the parking lot next to a car with what appeared to be a few other employees. we where violated with more inappropriate language.her and other employees and could strongly smell marijuana being used. will never bring my children any where near this establishment again. the management definitely needs to get it together in thisplaceand keep an eye on not only their customers but obviously their employees. worst experience i ever had. bad service raw food and we feel violated by foul language and inappropriate behavior by the employees working in the establishment. can't imagine how this establishment has such high ratings. bad food! bad service! and a negative atmosphere! we are a christian family and we do not appreciate or tolerate foul language or drugs!

best bbq in lex area. moved to georgetown recently and every time i drove past thisplaceit was packed. i figured it was pretty good so i got a big takeout order when my parents were visiting. since butt rubbin' on southland closed i have been looking for somewhere with really good bbq...i've been disappointed by a few places, including supposedly the "best in lexington". well, i think i've actually found the best bbq in town. the pulled pork was great--tender and moist, with plenty of burnt ends. the brisket was excellent. i had almost quit eating brisket because it is just bad at so many places. i had the sweet memphis, spicy texas, and nc mustard sauces. they were all good but mustard is always my favorite style. the buns were good; i think they were home-made. didn't try any of the sides because i was too busy eating smoked meat but i will have to try them next time. then again, anyone can make good macaroni or beans, but it's hard to make really good bbq.

super tasty!. fun, little, hole-in-the-wallplacewith super tasty bbq. in traditional southern fashion, the service was a little slow, but the food easily made up for it. if you're going to be around the horse park, this is a greatplaceto stop and eat!

we have been to thisplacetwice between 4 and 6 pm. we were told both times they we out of meat or only had one dish. not exactly good for a restaurant to run out of their signature dishes.

the iced tea is good..... not a badplacefor someone who likes dry bbq, but for a true southern girl, this isn't the way it should be. the only thing flavorful on the bun was the sauce.... the meat was dried out and had zero taste. side dishes were below par with undercooked potatoes in the potato salad and an odd flavor in the baked beans. the iced tea was great, and i needed a lot of it to finish my sandwich.

sad service; willing to give it a second shot because of that bbq sauce. thisplacewas highly recommended by a friend of mine, so the next time we were in the area we knew we had to hit it up. now as a caveat to this review, we were there at 8 pm on a sunday night, so i understand that the food was not going to be absolutely amazing and with that in mind--i really liked the sweet barbecue sauce it was very tangy and like honey and as someone who can't stand even the smallest amount of heat it was exactly what i was looking for. the potato salad was a touch on the vinegary side, but potato salad is one of those things where each persons preferences and personal history fall so much into the taste that my opinion can be construed as entirely biased. the corn pudding was a little sweet, but fairly decent. the pulled pork was a little heavy on the gristle, which i am not a fan of, but i think if we had come earlier we would have had a better pork selection.

that said, a friend of mine ordered an oktoberfest beer and it was skunky and off. they wouldn't let him return his drink unless he paid for the replacement. the waitress was sweet if a little bit flighty, but again, sunday night right before closing. i got the impression that this would've been an amazingplaceto eat saturday for lunch and i would definitely try it again.

for the wonderful review it had, i was slightly underwhelmed.

diamond in the rough. what a great find! i searched urbanspoon and came upon this littleplaceonly a 10 minute drive from my hotel. we headed out...theplacewas easy to find, but not near much else. the service was friendly and fast. the food - outstanding! my travel partner is from north carolina - so she knows bbq - and said this was top notch. three different sauces to choose from - the mustard sauce was surprisingly my favorite since i love bbq sauce. overall - great experience and would visit again if i come to the lexington area.

was visiting from memphis and a friend suggested we give it a try. i had the pulled pork sandwich (slaw on the sandwich) and fries. it was very good! i used to live in lexington and ate at places that claimed to have "memphis style" barbecue. red state can make that claim! the portion was great, the meat was tender and had great flavor and the memphis sauce complimented it perfectly. i highly recommend thisplaceif you're craving a taste of memphis.
