pub italia

we had been going there often but it was our last time at pub italia tonight! our big group was at the very end of the patio where we were just next to the fences and there was one more empty table for two next to us. three more friends wanted to join us and we asked for one more chair. here is what we have heard:
- all our chairs are broken
- no! you can't get chairs from other empty tables.
- no! you can't sit a table before it is cleaned.
when we asked to talk to a manager:
- i am not trying to be rude!
these were all coming from the same young waitress. since manager was understanding we decided to stay.
my son ordered stuffed chicken and he was satisfied with it. my husband ordered dantepizzawhere the crust was partially burned, pretty dry and caramelized onions looked and tasted like they were from previous day. my ceasers were very well decorated with pretty salty pickled vegetables. when we go out we expect hospitality and good taste! it is disappointing that pub italia can't keep up with none of those. just having a big selection of beer is not enough, for us at least.

my sister and i went to pub italia for a quick lunch on saturday august 19th, 2017. this used to be a place we would frequent often but had just stopped going. we arrived around 12:30 sat outside. our server made some good beer suggestions but after the beer it was downhill from there. we kept things pretty simple. ordered each a small mista salad and each a half pizza. our server asked if we wanted bread as well with our salads and we said sure why not. bread never came, salad was rotten and we sent it back. they did take it off the bill. halfpizzaarrived on store bought flat bread. dry and tasteless, i wish they would gave mentioned the dough was not homemade. pizzawas terrible and tasteless. with so any wonderful restaurants in the westboro and hintonburg area we will not be going back. if you are looking for a quick beer with friends after work, this is a good choice. if you are foodie, don't bother. we will not be going back anytime soon.

yum. had the abruzzi pizza. my favourite kind of pizza. the thin crust has a crunch to it, which is what i love in thin crust. none of that "thin crust"pizzathat looks like a regular pizza! it had a pesto base, with a ton of goat cheese, bruschetta style tomatoes, spicy pancetta, ugh. i'm dreaming of thispizzaright now. salty sweet and spicy. now that i know what their crust is like, i'll definitely be coming back for more.

something to note is after around 10 or 11 pm (the server wasn't exactly clear what time for sure) they retire their menu and opt for a late night menu until 1 am (which is when they actually close). i included a picture of that menu, which is still full of amazing stuff, and still has pizza, which is all i cared about!

the reason i'm giving this place a 4.5 rather than a 5 is this: the table i was sitting at had a weird... vinegar smell? it's a pub so you never know with smells sometimes, but they probably clean the tables with a vinegar solution and the wood table soaked it up. kind of took away from everything because i kept smelling vinegar. maybe anotherpizzawill help me get the rating to 5 😂🍕👍

cold pizza. they should tell people that there thin crustpizzais frozen pizza. it came cold and hardly cooked. returned because it was cold and they actually just did a reheat
wraps and soup were apparently good

do not order food here. ordered their dante pizza, paid 16$ after tax (not including tip) for a tiny "full"pizzathat is possibly the worstpizzathat i have ever had at a restaurant. basically a pita with cheap tomato sauce smeared on top and some preserved tomatoes and cheese. can't believe that they charge 16 bucks for this! a frozenpizzais ten times better.

what happened?!. just had the worst ottawa lunch experience.

i used to love pub italia for its unique ambiance and its great pizzas.

3 of us showed up for lunch at 1 pm today... and aside from a somewhat busy patio the inside was practically dead. the server took our drinks order... 3 cokes - and then we waited, and waited, and waited. we ask someone to flag down our server. nothing. finally, we went and got her. 30 minutes!

we ordered 2 spinach salads, a soup and a large pizza.

and then we waited, and waited, and waited.

45 minutes later our food came out.

the soup was okay - but the salads were absurdly small, served in a tiny square bowl. $8. because they were steep sided and so small you couldn't even dig the salad out.

maybe this was our fault - but when three big buys order a largepizzain an italian restaurant - i am thinking we are getting a large pizza. this thing - $16 - was their "dinner sized" large - i.e. barely enough for one guy. we all laughed when we saw it.

two hours later we left - $70 poorer and hungry as hell.

without a doubt this is the harshest review i have ever written. i can't help it. the service and food is terrible and the place is dim and over-priced.

9.75 for 6 pieces of breaded ravioli?! great beer selection though. thin crustpizzawas nice. service was fast and friendly. a bit overpriced but understandable.

lively atmosphere. great place if you are looking for a loud and lively atmosphere. be sure to book ahead! not so great for indepth discussions though... we shared a superbpizzatogether!

just fine. the service is friendly and the beer selection is fantastic. i like the irreverence of religious artifacts in a pub, especially the abby. the food, however, is mediocre. we had the nachos to start and it was basically melted cheese, cold chips and bruchetta topping. the main meal was uneventful, especially the pasta. too salty.
they need to reduce their menu to key, signature plates and then add some specials.
i have had theirpizzain the past and it was great - homemade thin crust.

go for the bible!. i would recommend pub italia for people who want to try new interesting beers they cannot find any where else. they have a beer bible containing over 200 beers. keep in mind they are very expensive (10-15/glass) but also quite good! they seem to have a hard time keeping stock, but it is quite demanding with over 200 beers.
that being said, do not go here for dinner. go further down the street to la favorita or big easy's (a bit more pricey). the main pasta dishes are very bland, nothing that isn't easily made at home.
if anything have the nachos or thin crust pizzas as a late night snack with friends. both pretty good, although they're a bit greasy. thepizzais made from fresh ingredients though, and goes well with the beer.
also the decor here is really quite nice! although a bit confusing to get around if you're there long enough to get drunk.

too noisey. been there twice, (work related) sat on the patio and waited 55 minutes for our lunch. place was busy however if the restaurant (kitchen staff) can not handle the seating capacity then they should not have that seating capacity. inside on a friday night this place is way too loud. not a good place to bring a date unless you plan on saying nothing to each other all night. we had to yell at each other, service was good, food so-so,pizzabland lack of cheese and very thin.
