fantasic view, staff was knowledgetable. we had a glass of chadoney and pinor noir and they were very nice. however, food was over priced, nice presentation but the taste was not remarkable. plus i had a stomach upset later in the afternoon. not sure we will come back....

being the obsessive planner i am, i organised a long weekend away (thank you, queen elizabeth!) coinciding with the winter wine weekend. being lovers and eager learners of the art of wine, we counted down the days until the long weekend was upon us. there are so many great restaurants in the mornington peninsula region and it would be such a shame to drop by without a visit to at least one of the one-hatted restaurants. unfortunately, due to the winter wine weekend event, bookings were made well in advance so we made do with dining in the cellar door area. after a night of drinking copious amounts of good wine, we settled for non-alcoholic drinks. a lemon, lime bitters was the perfect refresher. lemon, lime, bitters the bread was presented in the most adorable reusable paper bag. the olive oil had hints of lemon which was

nice view from a wonderful building. average food, above average prices and the cellar master needs a lesson in manners: he refused to give our international guest a clean glass when guest tasted only a little of the first wine, he simply poured the second wine into the remains of the first. oh, and there was a $10 charge for this 'tasting'. underwhelmed.

while the food didn’t wow me, it was a good dinner and the staff were excellent, i couldn’t fault them at all, they were friendly, professionally and knowledgeable.

one of the best mornington peninsula restaurants. not cheap but food quality up there with good melbourne restaurants. we happen to love the architecture and service was fine. jimbo

good experience. from the arrival, the restaurant looks more like a concrete bunker and a front door reminiscent of goldfinger.
once in, the decor is striking and offers views across to philip island.
dined here on 5th january. the food was good, though not outstanding, and needed sides to make it up to a main course.
the staff and service were outstanding, giving a seamless experience throughout.
one small point - they do not have a cordless card machine, so one has to go to the desk to pay - needs fixing.

cracker!. aylesbury duck breast, crisp confit, poached figs, spiced duck glaze
roasted berkshire pork loin, green apple and fennel salad, black pudding
eye fillet of beef, ox cheek ravioli, mushroom pate, jus

with sides
potato gratin
spring vegetables

deserts
apple doughnut, green apple sorbet, calvados custard
vanilla marshmallow, lemon curd, pistachio crumble

service sensational. we languidly made our way to eating after a fair bit of bubbly and sitting round on their cool multicolored seats. no rush applied.

no sommelier that night but no biggie, we chose our own wines instead.

loved loved loved this place. the views of the vineyard and the bay was nothing short of spectacular, the service was 1st rate- up there with melb's finest and the food was wonderful- 3 little pigs and the rabbit were sensational. the building itself is well worth a visit - stunning architecture.

nice view. when dining here you look over the rows of grapevines on rolling hills to western port bay and phillip island an amazing view. the floor to ceiling glass panes really allow for a lovely dining experience. they can also be harbingers of danger as the bloke mowing the lawn (best job in the world i would have thought) drove over a rock sending it hurtling into a glass panel at the other end of the restaurant shattering the peace and the glass.
anyway, we drank a pinot and ate three courses of delightful food. i ordered off the menu to start - six oysters were no trouble for the kitchen - they were good and fresh what else can you say about an oyster they are natures perfect food in my opinion. my companion had a whiting fillet which was apparently fishy - it was fish i'm sure it wasn't turning bad.
for main i had a snapper fillet on a bed of potato and moreton bay/balmain bug tails. the fish was lovely and crispy and salty with a sauce that was like ramen broth. a standout dish. my companion had the duck which was apparently delicious. on a previous visit one of my dining companions received overcooked lamb (ate it anyway) no such issues this time, but i'd had reservations about the food since then - no more the food was great this visit.
for dessert my companion had the deconstructed lemon meringue again apparently delicious. i had a lovely coffee and a fudgy piece of chocolate that came on the plate with the sugar for the coffee.
if you go over the next couple of weeks you too will be able to see the broken glass pane. probably not be able to experience the spectacular smash and tinkle sounds we enjoyed though.
overall, i would say the food is excellent. the only problem i have with these wineries and red hill in general is that everywhere is very expensive and they rarely have a decent lunch special. the wine is great, but very expensive too - our pinot was $92 for the bottle.
