from the fab 6....a group of 3 couples , who dine at a different restaraunt each month of the year.. 5/30/15
we,the fab 6, went to the pig & finch for dinner and drinks at the leawood ks. location.
our reservation was for 7:00pm. we arrived early and were seated at once. the table had already been set up for us. (nice).
margo, our server, was an absolute delight! we threw more questions at her than fast balls at a royals game and she knew
every detail of both the cocktail and dinner menues.
the appetizers were fresh and wonderful
i ordered the pork shoulder for dinner. it was to die for. two in our party ordered the pork chop. they were absolutely delicious as well.
after finishing our meals, chef john smith came out to our table and discussed how the pork shoulder was prepared.
he takesgreatpride in andgreatcare with his dishes and the results prove it.
bottom line: crisp, clean decor, friendly and prompt service. reasonable pricing and very good food. highly recommend this restaurant.!

food was really good. i had.... food was really good.
i had the espresso rubbed pork shoulder which hadgreatflavor and was cooked well. we also enjoyed the pretzel bites and pork belly appetizers.
the service was different. i felt like i didn't know who my server was since someone came to our table for drinks, then a new person came and took our orders, then the first person came back
again, etc. i'm not sure if this is normal arrangement that is a unique thing for them, but odd because i didn't know who my server was...

it was great!. ate here for lunch yesterday. the service, first of all, was absolutely outstanding. our server, colsie, was completely on top of her game. she was personable, knowledgable about the menu, attentive, very helpful, just did everything right, including a lot of little things - offering lemon wedges for our glasses of water, bringing us a fresh little dish of the cheese sauce for the (delicious) pretzel bites rather than simply reheating the remaining sauce, things like that. and she wasn't the only one providing the service - when i got up to use the restroom, my napkin had been neatly refolded, the folks who delivered the food were very nice too, just all around excellent service.

now, the food. the pretzel bites were terrific little nuggets, not too salty, really flavorful, greatstone ground mustard and cheese sauces (yes two sauces come with them). my wife had the b.l.a.t. (bacon lettuce avocado tomato) sandwich on farm to market bread, and i tasted it as well and agreed it was terrific. boy that bacon - cut in house - really was very good, really everything in that sandwich was perfect. i had the short rib ragout grilled cheese - kind of felt almost like i had to have that, based on everyone else's raves about it. it didn't disappoint. and the tomato soup that comes with it was great, too, really solid and hearty. i have lots of other items to try on this menu so i may get something else next time but it was an excellent sandwich, good blend of meat and cheese, good choice of cheeses, neither one overwhelming the other. the kale caesar salad was also great! the bottle of wine was very good as well, and the atmosphere wasgreat- i even liked the restroom (cool pink hand soap, nice fixtures, clean), let alone the overall ambiance of the restaurant was very comfortable, plenty of room. this is leawood but these folks running this restaurant were not stuffy or snotty at all, the manager even stopped by to ask how our experience was going, and he, too, was very friendly in a real, not a fake, way. i enjoyed this experience very much. and free wi-fi that was really good (fast and dependable).greatexperience. we'll be back. plus, they offer daily happy hour specials! who does that? very few restaurants. i will admit we tried this restaurant because we had a groupon but we'll be back without the groupon, it's excellent!

lunch at p&f. first time there.. love the decor and open feeling. we ordered tomato soup and the duck fat fries for starters but they never showed up. when we finally asked about them, the waitress ran over to the kitchen and ordered them so we had to wait. she apologized saying she forgot them. service was very slow and incorrect and we had to ask often for refills on our drinks even though it wasn't very crowded. the soup, once it arrived was delicious as were the "duck fries." i had the short rib grilled cheese sandwich which was fantastic even if the brioche was a bit burned. "finch fries" are kind of chewy or hard- perhaps a bit over cooked so i doubt id order them again. my dish was served with the most delicious green beans tossed in a blue cheese vinagrette that had me wishing for more and some fabulous home made pickles. hubby had the duroc pork belly which he loved. it was served with an egg on top and a bit of balsamic glaze to cut the richness. he had to ask for more balsamic but it still was a very nice dish.
i think the food was pretty good- notgreatbut the service was a real disappointment, especially when we have so manygreatchoices in kc. we would probably go back at least once more to try it and see if the issues were a fluke. i will reserve my "likes it" or "doesn't like it" until we try again.

beautiful decor; notgreatfood.two friends & i had lunch . ordered 3 salads, but all had very strong salad dressings. my chicken salad had a leg & thigh on top of greens. we asked for bread and a basket came 20 min. later.none of us were happy with our meals. however it was a beautiful restaurant and we really want to like it. we all said we would go back one more time and order something else. may try their happy hour .

love the outside seating. they have agreathappy hour from 3-6 and i absolutely love the blat (includes avocado). i'm not a huge fan of their fries so try for a substitution. the restaurant is very cold so either sit outside or bring a jacket.greatnew addition to park place!

fyi - get the fried egg added to your blat :)

pig & finch is the area’s latest gastropub, a term defined broadly to encompass a restaurant that has a pub-like atmosphere serving high-end beer and wine, paired with upscale comfort food. pig & finch is owned by the 801 chophouse folks and is located next door to the 801 chophouse in park place. relatively sedate during the day, pig & finch comes alive at night. it feels fun and energetic, and the lighting is extremely effective, allowing the numerous pig wall paintings to pop. and though there’s a definite hip factor, happily the noise level in the dining room is manageable. if you go with a group, consider booking the community table. positioned right in front of the kitchen, it’s agreatperch from which to watch the cooking and dishes being plated. don’t miss the clever wine bottle chandelier that hovers above the table. i’ve had several very fine meals at pig and finch, grazing through a menu that ranges from a kale caesar to an oversized and

tries too hard. it seems to me that they are trying just a bit too hard to be cool. first let me say our server was nice and polite and i understand she did not make the rules just follows them... that being said, the first impression came when i ordered a moscow mule. the server politely explained to order this drink i would have to give them my id to hold until they were assured of getting their "$40.00 our cost" copper imported mug back. then she explained they had a party steal several of them, thus the id hostage rule. four of us at a table two servers (new server being trained) and a half full restaurant, don't see the need to hold my id hostage. i also take offense when a mid to high end "gastropub" (i will get to that in a minute) forgets what they are doing, serving a customer about too spend $150.00+/-. i do not believe that when i am spending $150.00 plus for 2 of us that my id needs to be held hostage. when we all were ready to order our server went into a silly explaination of the meaning of "gastropub", again not her fault but silly none the less. we ordered the fried pickles and blue cheese chips appetizers, both were small with the fried pickles being a really thin slice with a greasy thin coating and a small pile of chips and a drizzle of blue cheese sauce. i do not need a giant pile of either for $6.00 each, however i would expect more then was presented. tries too hard... the entres ordered at our table (salmon in parchment, trout, flat iron and the short rib special) all had decent flavors... then comes the "tries too hard" part. the salmon in parchment was flavorfull however even the server had a hard time getting it open with the fennel, tomatoes spinach (could not find any of these in the parchment) and couple of slices of potato unrecognizable and stuck to the parchment. the flat iron was decent but to add flair they added four slices of home fries cooked in duckfat (ohh...aww...) oh yea and they did not put the grean beans on the plate, the trout was good with 4 little pieces of gnocchi and green beans (underwhelming). short ribs may have been the best on the table. however the $9.00 for 5 donut holes wasgreatflavor but at $1.80 a donut hole... really it's a donut hole...

i am fortunate to stumble upon this delicious and unique eatery withgreatfood and exception service. my waitress/bartender madi (sp?) was the epitome of perfection! from the first drink (gluten free beer that everyone should try) to my lamb burger, i was her priority. her knowledge and expertise can not be replicated. the food was enough to go back, but the service will ensure i will!
