it is really not like a kosher style delli. although from richmond, we lived in ny for over 30 years. we loved visiting thegreatdelis there, like carnegie. the sandwiches were large and the meat very delicious.
here is what was good: half done pickles. matza ball soup, except the ball was too large. here is what was really bad:
wife ordered chopped liver sandwich, i ordered hot pastrami and chicken liver sandwich. the chicken liver was made like a pate....very loose, and served like one little schmear on the bread. it didn't even taste like chicken liver.you didn't get this recipe from a jewish mother!!!! she complained and got maybe and 18th of an inch more!! my pastrami was way over cooked,with hard pieces included and sandwich was not "overstuffed" the taste was awful. !! i told waiter and asked him for a taste of the corned beef........same problem there....overcooked and tasteless!!!!
we live in williamsburg and were so happy with the prospect of having a good kosher style place to get a good sandwich.
sooooo, we were sooooooooo disappointed. we also have many friends in richmond and agree with our assessment!
we were soooo hoping !!! the closest place in the larger area for good almost new york food is 57 deli in virginia beach.
you guys should go there and get some ideas!!!!

loved my ruben. best corned beef i've had. this really is an authentic jewish deli.greatjob with the makeover on the interior and the menu. very good beer selection also.

perlys was agreatplace for breakfast! kind staff, quiet atmosphere (weekday). would definitely come back.

great brunch. i loved the atmosphere, with paintings on the walls and a different lamp for every table. the food was your basic diner food, but not greasy. lots of options and reasonably priced. i've heardgreatthings about the biscuits and plan to come in earlier so i can snag one!

might be better than my review. pearlys looks like it would be agreatjoint, however i was very under impressed. the burger was bland, the onion rings average, and the waitstaff disinterested. might be willing to try again for breakfast, but you'd have to twist my arm to try again for lunch.

great sandwiches!. i've been in richmond 6yrs and never heard of this place till today and i'm definitely going back!greatsandwiches, fast service and a good price. i went with the best seller, the downtowner, and it was amazing! the only problem i had was that i wanted to try all the sandwiches at once!

also a plus is that you can bring the kids or the vegetarian with you as they have everything covered. my advice would be to arrive early as it get's crowded for lunch. give it a try and see what you think but i'm sure you'll have repeat visits like me.

great spot. my roommate and i live within walking distance of this place and come often for weekend brunch.greatcrew running the place and fast, friendly (sometimes goofy) service. highly recommended.
