my first impression with peko peko is its cute and cozy setting. their menu is of good size with a variety of appetisers and main for you to choose from. the rest is taiwanese and japanese fusion. here are the food that we ordered and the verdict:
- prawn with wasabi mayo: i feel that nothing can go wrong with this combination. they were born to be together. their wasabi mayo sauce was well seasoned, u got a mild kick of the wasabi, not too strong where in my case it could have been stronger as i’m a big fan of wasabi :)) the addition of a small piece of pineapple added the sweetness and freshness, helps balance the richness from mayo and fried prawn.
- scallop and taiwanese sausages in chilli mayo sauce. another good combination between scallop and sausage. the sauce was a bit too sweet for me, just a bit. i would prefer more of a chilli kick. having said that, it was still a pleasant bite. a simple dish well made, just like the first one.
- nori dumpling with garlic sauce: compliments for their sauce. the fact that they use fried garlic added a bit of the crunch to the sauce. and the smell of fried garlic elevated the sauce flavours. dumplings were delicate, well made, juicy. i just couldn’t find any nori :))
- soft shell crab fried rice: yum yum yum. i love the fact that they used brown rice for this dish. sometimes white rice can be mushy when fried, brown rice on the other hand holds its form better and i just love its chewy texture. my friends said this is a bit salty but it was fine by me.
- mama fried chicken: if you have a chance to visit this rest, try their chicken. crunchy batter, juicy chicken and flavoursome sauce binding all together. it was my most fav dish of the night.
- garlic pepper beef: a burst of flavours. deep fried beef strip tossed in garlic and pepper sauce. it was hot because of the pepper, but delicious.
- earl grey pana cotta with sesame ice cream, cheesecake with matcha ice cream. love their dessert. ice cream was light, creamy, good kick of match and sesame.
all in all, a good experience for us. the price is lining toward the higher end, about $40 per pers incl drink. but they have some unique favours there. make sure u book, cuz this place is usually packed.
