peko peko has always been one of my favourites, some times you just crave for some of those street style asian food! had the taiwanese sausage fried rice again (had this every single time), also tried the new crispy calamari curry, very strong flavour but i love it. after the mains we had the milk tea panna cotta, it was so good! they are so busy so make sure you get in early!

went for dinner tonight and was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. having a taiwanese boyfriend and having been to taiwan before, our expectations were pretty high after having our entree (the taiwanese sausage) as it was delicious, flavourful and very authentic! we also ordered the beef noodle soup, soft shell crab brown fried rice and the pop chicken. though the food didn’t meet our expectations following the strong start, all the dishes were still good - just nothing memorable or amazing.
the beef noodle soup was not as flavourful and rich as we were hoping it would be (like its traditional counterpart), the pop chicken though well seasoned and juicy had no crispy crunch at all as we’d hoped, and we wished the sauce on the soft shell crab had also been drizzled over the rice as it was delicious, stood out and gave it more flavour.
service was attentive and fast, and there was a pleasant, casual, cosy atmosphere in the simply decorated restaurant. enjoyed the experience and would probably return to try out other dishes; a safe, solid, casual dining-out option.

this place is always busy during dinner time. the food quality is good. price is a little bit expensive. i’ve tried the pop chicken, spicy chicken, stir fry veggie, the staff meal. the service was quick and efficient.

totally reasonably priced and cute little spot for both a quick lunch and a fun dinner, peko peko is a fave for our work lunch stops. their pop chicken is high on my list of ‘must do’ dishes if you’re there and honestly there’s enough food there to satisfy two hungry stomachs. it’s an adorable, bustling little joint in a random south melbourne strip of eateries but is easily the most popular and well known. booking is usually essential but you could try your luck at getting a table on a less busy day. take away lunches are also good value and their daily specials will keep people coming back. if you’re in the area - a must try.

food is great, but not their booking system. when we booked a table for 3 , how can they add a chair to a table of 2 and ask us to sit there. it was so congested.
then what is the point of booking a table ?

had a lovely dinner here! came in a group of 40+ and had a set menu which we really enjoyed. highlights for us were the scallop skewers, bang bang squid and soup dumplings. would pass on the soy fish next time, didn’t taste fresh and we were unsure what kind of fish it was. also be prepared that most of the dishes are deep fried, not for the health conscious among us ;) staff were friendly and took great care of us, can’t wait to be back! 👍🏻

really enjoyed my experience at peko peko. the interior is really cute and cosy and the waitresses are friendly. the menu is a good size.
the steamed juicy pork dumplings are delicious, as is the spring rolls and the salt and chilli calamari ( although it needed some more chilli). for mains we ordered crispy pepper beef, steamed soy ginger fish and teriyaki chicken. love how they seem to make it healthy as possible, as it didn't taste like it had msg and was not greasy and there was veggies served on the side of each dish ( which i loved). the beef was definitely my favourite, just delicious. the fish was fresh and well cooked although the sauce was a little lacking in ginger flavour. i would not order the chicken teriyaki again, this was also lacking in flavour and the chicken was a little fatty. overall can't wait to come back to try more and highly recommended.

my first impression with peko peko is its cute and cozy setting. their menu is of good size with a variety of appetisers and main for you to choose from. the rest is taiwanese and japanese fusion. here are the food that we ordered and the verdict:
- prawn with wasabi mayo: i feel that nothing can go wrong with this combination. they were born to be together. their wasabi mayo sauce was well seasoned, u got a mild kick of the wasabi, not too strong where in my case it could have been stronger as i’m a big fan of wasabi :)) the addition of a small piece of pineapple added the sweetness and freshness, helps balance the richness from mayo and fried prawn.
- scallop and taiwanese sausages in chilli mayo sauce. another good combination between scallop and sausage. the sauce was a bit too sweet for me, just a bit. i would prefer more of a chilli kick. having said that, it was still a pleasant bite. a simple dish well made, just like the first one.
- nori dumpling with garlic sauce: compliments for their sauce. the fact that they use fried garlic added a bit of the crunch to the sauce. and the smell of fried garlic elevated the sauce flavours. dumplings were delicate, well made, juicy. i just couldn’t find any nori :))
- soft shell crab fried rice: yum yum yum. i love the fact that they used brown rice for this dish. sometimes white rice can be mushy when fried, brown rice on the other hand holds its form better and i just love its chewy texture. my friends said this is a bit salty but it was fine by me.
- mama fried chicken: if you have a chance to visit this rest, try their chicken. crunchy batter, juicy chicken and flavoursome sauce binding all together. it was my most fav dish of the night.
- garlic pepper beef: a burst of flavours. deep fried beef strip tossed in garlic and pepper sauce. it was hot because of the pepper, but delicious.
- earl grey pana cotta with sesame ice cream, cheesecake with matcha ice cream. love their dessert. ice cream was light, creamy, good kick of match and sesame.
all in all, a good experience for us. the price is lining toward the higher end, about $40 per pers incl drink. but they have some unique favours there. make sure u book, cuz this place is usually packed.

i love most of all the food and dessert that i ordered, especially the matcha ice cream and black sesame#ithink. the service was good too. the price is reasonable enough. i got seafood ravioli, pop chick, black beans fish, stir fried vegie, 5 spice calamary, mince mince, mama chicks, peko sausage, big boss fried rice, and black sesame also greentea ice cream on dessert. can’t really remember which one is my fav and the best, but overall was mouthwatering. one of my favourite asian food so far.

this taiwanese-japanese fusion restaurant was a huge surprise and i wasn't expecting it to work as well as it did. the chicken was easily my fav but the other dishes were pretty good too. will definitely be back to try more.
