expensive. when i saw thereviewfrom the customer about spending lots of time inside patisserie 46 i thought maybe i went to a different place...i don't think there was anything special or different that will make me go out of my way to patisserie. i had an americano and it was good, but the sour cream coffee cake for more than $4.00 dollars was disappointing. i'm with the customer about bread being ready early in the morning without excuses.

a comment on the previous review. a forum like urban spoon is about factual, helpful, information that enables a potential customer to decide if a particular place is somewhere they care to patronize. having said that i am going to break with that statement and use this space to comment on the preceding review. the first portion of it is legitimate - the reviewer is expressing his opinion based on his specific criteria.
where i take exception is the comment that "this bakery is less a legitimate business than someone's hobby" that is purely speculative. did the reviewer speak to the owners to discover that their motivation in pouring money and effort into opening a business in these straightened economic times was purely for fun, as the term hobby seems to suggest? i think not since it is just his 'distinct impression' what about the title of thereviewwhich suggests that for lack of effort patisserie 46 is failing to achieve it's potential? because they couldn't accommodate him they must not be trying. i see.
as a business owner, i find assumptions like these particularly offensive. anyone who thinks that running a business is a lark designed for the gratification of the owner alone and not the customers is sadly mistaken. poor service exists, mistakes are made, but most decisions are more complicated than they appear and most businesses try very hard indeed.reviewthe food, decor, and service; express disappointment in the fact that the bread was not available - that is all very helpful and within the purview of the commentator, but areviewlike the one posted does a disservice to customers and businesses.
alike.

love my neighbors. i have been meaning to write about 46 since they opened and just didn't get to it but the abovereviewis forcing my hand. i think when a well intentioned, family owned business opens in our community we should support them and give them the benefit of the doubt. a couple of the reviews here have been unfair and uninformed and in some cases - just plain ignorant. i have eaten at 46 several times since their opening not even two months ago. the business has had a lot of people through the door - maybe more than they expected - and has done an admirable job managing it. i know a lot of what people like and don't like is subjective but i will say i haven't had a thing there that wasn't top notch - being something of a pastry geek i can say with some authority. you don't have to love everything but get the facts straight - these people are pros! the chef has worked in some the of finest establishments in the country and has many years and many awards to his credit. a few of his accomplishments are noted in the restaurant. just because the gentleman above couldn't get that he wanted when he wanted it is no reason to damn the whole establishment. i am usually not there so early but there has always been bread ready when i was in around 8 a.m. i don't think there are many bakeries in the twin cities who bake everything from scratch everyday and i am thankful we have them in our neighborhood. i heartily recommend the bostock, bran muffins and any of the breads.
