brunch and mystery. all summer long, parker & otis was our sunday-brunch destination. ok, yes, we live next door. but that just means we're lucky: they have everything we need for sunday brunch. ny times: check;goodespresso: check; amazing blueberry muffins: check; friendly staff who're too busy to chat: check; ample seating: check.
but wait! now that the weather has turned cool, that last crucial element, ample seating, has been jeopardized, as all the folks who used to flock to the back porch (leaving the indoor tables free for us) have moved inside. this past sunday we arrived at 10:35 and wound up having to get our food to go, as there was nowhere to sit.
is this the beginning of the end of a beautiful relationship?
which brings me, in a roundabout way, to the mystery. i visit parker & otis once or twice a week, and there are always a decent number of people there, but they're nearly *all* always either eating, or standing in line to order food. the shelves of gourmet food, and the huge wine selection, rarely seem to have more than one two folks browsing, and half the time they appear to be people killing time waiting for their food orders.
if the sunday-morning seating shortage continues, maybe they'll let us perch on the tables full of cookbook displays?
