the best steakhouse in north texas. i've not always been happy with pappas... but they're perfectly on track again and should be your number one pick for steakhouses in north texas. they have worked hard to be consistent and to be perfect. they have earned your business before you even arrive.
the reservations system is superb. whether you call into the restaurant or make them via opentable, you will find it easy to make the perfect reservation. tell them what you like: quiet and out of the way, at the bar, near the piano or in the midst of the dining room for perfect people-watching. they will do whatever you ask.
your hostesses that will great you, confirm your reservation and seat you do it with proper enthusiasm and winning smiles. the kitchen staff and dining room staff will all nod to you and give you the "right of way" as you walk. your chairs will be pulled out for you and your napkin properly draped across your lap.
this week our highly trained and cordial server was henry. he was efficient, cordial but not "chatty". we are always treated respectfully and warmly... but never do the servers mistake you as being "their friend". they know that they are there to assist you in ordering and invisibly taking care of your dining experience without "fussing". the iced tea is refilled at the half-way mark immediately, every time, without having to ask. (hurray!) the cloth napkins are soft (and not stiff), the stemware is flawlessly polished and the flatware is uniform and bright. salt and pepper mills produce fresh seasoning at a twist. lighting is good (though more amber than most).
oh yes, you want to know about the food...
we had a terrific special this trip. a 14 oz ny prime strip steak served with fantastically cooked potato planks (with onions) and perfectly prepared haricot verts for one low price. the steak was served with a wonderful pile of sliced mushrooms, my wife had hers on the side by request.
steaks here are seasoned properly, liberally, and cooked to perfection. yes, perfection. dry aged beef is better tasting than the other steakhouses that wet age their steaks. the flavor is just wonderful.
for dessert you will be presented with a cart full of choices. however, my wife's favorite dessert in all of dallas fort worth is pappas oreo caramel turtle pie. it's sweet, rich and over-the-top. if you want to indulge, this is the dessert for you.
treat yourself to an evening of pampering, of tremendous service that begs you need anything and to a meal that will be delicious, perfectly prepared and memorable. worth ever penny....
