once a prize fighter. ... now hanging against the ropes, trying to catch his breath.
peasanos is a sa institution for italian food, but a combo of lagging menu, a front-of-house staff that scowls far too much and a wine list that could use refreshing, it's become the go-to spot for alamo heights elders who don't know any better. what was once see-and-be-seen is now completely blind of it's own crapulence.
and please, don't even get me started on the riverwalk location: it's even worse.

oh joe, say it ain't so. went for lunch recently and as another reviewer mentioned already, everything tasted either reheated or previously frozen. less angry, i was actually embarrassed for the kitchen.
service was stellar, but it simply didn't make up for the terrible food. i did also notice that their wine list wasn't quite as impressive as it has been in the past. it is, however, the end of the year and it's possible they haven't made their wine deals with distributors yet.
i won't be back for awhile. now both their riverwalk location and the 09 version are disappointing. boo.

sa tradition?. i used to enjoy coming to this quarry location, but in the past few years, the atmosphere has gotten entirely too loud, the crowd entirely too pretentious and the menu never, ever changes. it's settled into a boring eatery that relies on it's history rather than securing it's future with innovation.
olie, the sommelier, is always the highlight of my trip, recommending unknowns to drink and offeringgreatconversation. he's truly one of the best in town and paesanos is lucky to have him.
paesanos is no longer the in spot that it used to be now that stone oak is a hotbed for new eateries and i think it reflects in some of the 'old crowd' that frequents the restaurant. it doesn't make it uncomfortable, but it does affect the positive energy that the spot used to have.
