had a reservation for 4 at 8:30pm on a friday...called to say we'd be 15 minutes late and it wasn't a problem. the cocktails were wonderful and extremely well-balanced...and definitely rivaled the drinks at a michelin-starred restaurant in san francisco. we shared tapas and everything was delicious: fried artichokes with pimenton aoili, salt cod, tuna, clams, olives, and the ham. desserts were the churros and creme brûlée...also delicious! our server was attentive, fun, and overall wonderful! all of the food came out fast yet well-timed. this was one of the best dining experiences ever had in calgary...drinks, food, andservicewere all impecable and we may just have to become regulars.

i got carried away here. between four of us our bill was around $300. we did drink wine and a lot of estrella. the food was really good and theservicewas average. our waiter seemed to be struggling with the number of tables he was serving (it was busy). the scallops and fritters were definite standouts. i'll go back when i'm not intending to have a large meal.

classy place, great ambience andserviceand food taste and presentation was fabulous. we stuck to the tapas and the appetizers and all were good. especially good were the grilled albacore tuna, patatas bravas (fried baby potatoes) and the filete a la parila (grilled steak with anchovies) but not a single bad dish. a must visit.

sooo disappointing!! everything was just ok, most dishes were quite bland, and most were lacking authentic flavors. the paella was ok, but was missing that crispy bottom, which is the best part! theservicewas quite poor, we were one of 2 tables there, and most of the 5 or 6 staff hung out near the bar, socializing. even when we told our server we were disappointed with the food, she just shrugged her shoulders, and said, oh well, sorry. way too pricy for tapas!
never going back there.

great atmosphere - bad food. it took me a while to get to ox and angela. there are so many new places opening up in calgary that it is hard to keep track and find time to check them out in adition to going to my favs. well, i finally made it and i have to say that theservicewas excellent, drink and wine list was great. but, where it mattred the most i think that ox and angela has failed. perhap that had a night off, but it is tough to find excuse for the meal i had last night. to be fair, appetizers were good. it is tough to mess up a spread of olives, chese and rosted almonds. most likely non of it was made in house (perhaps, almonds were ?!). on to the main course. i had chicken that was so tender, but its flavour and that of sauce that it was in was substituted with salt (lots of it). i feel like i had my annual intake of sodium last night. will not go back and will not recommend it to anyone.

meh. not worth the money or wait. tapas was disappointing, duck was okay. maybe it's because i had eaten duck at alloy the week before which was beyond delicious.serviceand management was excellent apart from the hostess who forgot about us twice :s . the tiny block of cheese for $9 was lame. better of going to farm for cheese pairings and wine.

the food was tasty and well done however theserviceour party received was mediocre. our server was quite standoffish and snooty and he was very unprofessional to a guest in our party when he realized she was a non-drinker. i realize that these types of establishments have a high markup on alcohol, however respect needs to be shown to all guests whether or not they choose to consume alcoholic beverages.

went there for apps and drinks to start off our ladies' night with some girlfriends on friday. first impression when we walked in was that the place was decorated well but it was dark. i looked around as were waiting to be seated and we noticably one of the youngest groups there ( we are all in our early 30s so not that young).

service: horrible, our server did not smile once as he was serving us and was kind of aloof the whole time. everyone at the table thought it was probably because we were younger and he figured he wouldn't get tipped well and this becomes a vicious cycle because of his poorservicewe did tip him poorly. he didn't even finish with us some lady came and took our payment as he was hanging out at the bar! he just totally put a damper on our mood.

food: not good. the cod croquettes were oversalted and i am a person that needs food to be salty. the seafood rice was way too lemony but the spanish tortilla was good. the sangria was good.

all in all this is yet another overhyped and overpriced place in calgary where you will definitely not get your money's worth.

wow, i'm impressed by how much i like ox and angela - certainly wish i tried it sooner! my first experience was an impromptu trip for dinner. we ordered multiple tapas to share as the items on the spanish table menu didn't quite entice us. the roasted rainbow carrots were fabulous - the tahini, goat yogurt, and feta added just the right amounts of saltiness and tartness to the charred flavour of the carrots. of course, i also loved the famous patatas bravas. they were so crispy and the brava sauce and creamy alioli balanced each other perfectly. my favourite of the night was the mushrooms on sourdough toast with poached egg. the mushrooms were fragrant of truffles and the house-made sourdough bread was delicious. i would have ordered more sourdough if i wasn't so full from everything else! my dining partner's favourite dish was the fried chicken. the chicken was rich and succulent, but the acidity of the orange glaze cut through it.
we returned to ox and angela over the weekend and indulged in the brunch table. the sautéed mushroom eggs benedict with truffle hollandaise and the olive oil dark chocolate pancakes with dulce de leche were my favourite items from the menu. overall, exceptional food quality and greatservicein a beautiful dining room. can't wait to go back!

love it! come here for girls get together and food is always great. the only one bad part is that this place gets super loud for some reason and it's hard to actually hear person next to you during a conversation. so everyone starts to talk louder and louder haha. food is great andserviceis great though. always a fun night!

we have friends who insist this place tops the list of favourite restaurants in yyc. we were visiting for the weekend and decided to try some quality tapas. the waitress recommended the spanish table option (essentially their tasting menu), as this was our first time. the first courses arrived quickly, and but for the small serving sizes, they did not disappoint. what did disappoint was the service. there was a period of 40 minutes between courses, where no one checked in on us, while tables cleared around us. by the time our hot plates arrived, there were no apologies or recognition of the fact that such a delay was out of their usual character. i understand that there may be busy nights that cause backlogs in getting orders out, but given the fact that the restaurant was over half empty, there seemed to be no reasonable explanation of why we were ignored for so long. ultimately, poorserviceovershadowed the meal itself, and i doubt that we will return in the future.

theservicewas excellent. they even crafted me a special alcohol free cocktail because i was expecting. we ordered the spanish table which at first i thought might not be enough food but it was more than enough and each dish was handcrafted to perfection.

food was fantastic but it ends there.
waiter didn't want to be there. very short and bothered when anyone in the group asked for something. with a group of 8 you are unable to pick off the menu and forced to only have the spanish table dish. portions are very small for any adult. let's be honest our daughter would leave hungry. all this for $45 a person, way overpriced to be forced to take what they give you. theservicewas horrible and your obligated to pay 18% gratuity. which i understand is standard in many places with groups. i've never liked this as my tip is based in service. greatservicegets a bigger tip. last, you are unable to get your own separate bill. they will not split a bill, it says right on the menu. they will split payments off the bill but good luck with that! we will never go back and i'm left wondering why anyone would😔
