i love the owlbarand it's wonderful staff. the food is never a disappointment and they are eager and polite to adjust it to your taste. the best martini in the entire state. the only thing i would change if it were my place is that i would hang tapestry rugs from the ceiling to absorb the noise. hard to have a conversation. but i love love love it there.

my good friend just moved to mount vernon and we were looking for a quick bite.   the owlbar was perfect.  i have had drinks, but hadn’t tried the food. it’s located in the belvedere on chase street, so we were able to walk from her new apartment. we were easily able to snag two seats at the bar.  the bartender was funny, there when we needed him, but not overly attentive.  we were looking for a good burger, but weren’t super hungry.  i was having a hard time deciding between all of their burger choices.  but decided to keep it simple and split the owlbarburger. as you can see we added the duck fat fries!  i think they might have been better than the ones at salt .  they serve them with truffle aioli and a little park on top.  i am 100% sure, we didn’t leave a single one the plate. now, take a look at that burger – it was their own “special blend of chuck, short rib and brisket”.  they topped it with the classic l,t, american cheese,  su

i have this strange idea that getting snowed into abarcould potentially be a ton of fun. on a snowy sunday evening, my friend and i headed over to the owlbarin  mount vernon to try and make my fantasy a reality. the restaurant is located inside the belvedere hotel and has some really rich history. during prohibition, it was one of few speakeasies open. inside there are plenty of owl themed decorations which goes nicely with the name. this is a place worth visiting for the history alone. owlbar– photo credit http://bsinbmore.wordpress.com/ this was definitely a beer and burger kind of night. on the menu they advertised a yard of beer that they could fill with any of their beers on tap. after looking over the beer list (they had some nice options) we decided to share the leinenkugel’s sunset wheat. it was nice and light and would go down smoothly with our burgers. the beer had notes of orange and blueberry, and a tart, citrusy finish. it went down smoothly and we made a great choic

awesome pizza. yes iggie's is the best in mt.vernon, but owlbaris a close second in my opinion. it's a good place to go out for a casual dinner with friends who want good beer and interesting toppings for their pizza.

ahhhh the owl bar. it’s been around a while. nestled within the not-really-a-hotel belvedere hotel, this mainstaybarhas been through its ups and downs, good times and bad, all of which are completely irrelevant to talking about nachos. fortunately, and relevant to nachos, the nachos at owlbarare pretty great.

never again!. on january 4, 2012, twelve friends and i decided to celebrate our friend's 36th birthday at the owl bar. the service was horrible and the manager was extremely rude. we all eat out often and have never received such poor service. it made us feel as if our money was not good and reminded us that in 2012 we are still dealing with racism. due to us having a large party, the gratuity was included but was not deserved. when we spoke to the manager about our waitress' service, his response was "she did a great job". this was news to us , as this was the first time we had seen the manager the whole night and the waitress was also nowhere to be found. to add insult to injury, the manger asked us to look around; pointing out that we were the only african american party in the restaurant. he also noted that we were placed in the back of the restaurant so that we could be hidden from the other patrons.

the manager was not willing to compromise about the restaurant only accepted "three credit cards" when it is a large party and the waitress's gratuity is already included. our party was not informed of this "three credit card" rule prior to ordering. the manager's suggestion was that we walk to an atm. i felt this was an inappropriate request. i do not think the manager should have requested us to leave the establishment, walk to an atm machine, and incur bank fees when he could have easily made an exception.

once the bill was paid, minus the gratuity, our party exited the establishment. three members of our party used the valet service. the manager held the cars at the valet so that he could call the police. when the police arrived the manager and waitress explained our party tried to "skip out on our bill without paying." we asked the police officers to play back the call, and the manager said "seven out of twelve black people left without paying". if we were trying to "skip on the bill" we would not have stayed around to talk to the police. the police explained a warrant would be put out for our arrest and we were obligated to pay the gratuity. in the end, we paid the gratuity. our party could have chosen another establishment but we heard excellent reviews about this restaurant. the food was great, but night ended horribly, so to eat our leftovers would only remind of us of the services we were subjected too. the owlbarhas lost thirteen customers for life; we will never come again. i will report this incident tobetter business bureau.

woodland's date agrees with woodland : ). with the hopes my dining buddy will write a review - i will only explain my half of the experience.
my friend and i come to the owlbarand were greeted very warmly. so far, i am happy. the owl, well known for their pizza, and i were to become fast friends since i lived in chicago (pizza) for 8 years and it was happy hour! 4-7pm. he and i ogle the menu - he chooses two 5 dollar items from the happy hour menu, i a 5 dollar start (calamari, very tasty) as well as a greek pizza. the greek pizza which consisted of a black olive spread, spinach, tomatoes, peppers, garlic oil, mozzarella cheese and feta. yumm! before we ordered, i asked for a glass of pinot (happy hour consists of 3 dollar wines) and he ordered a beer. we are laughing and enjoying the service until our order was taken. then, our waitress leaves for an extended period of time, for such a while, i have to get another glass from the bartender… okay - our food arrives. my pizza was an entire red pepper, 7 leaves of spinach, sliced black olives, garlic oil, mozz and… do not remember the feta - when we told the waitress (once she was found) she apologized and asked if we wanted a box. (cuz i need to dislike the pizza in the privacy of my own home, i suppose) then the pizza maker came out and said he put the spinach at the "bottom" i guess he meant center of the pizza - which is odd, but okay, still had 7 wilted leaves i tried to enjoy at only the first bite. i was also told by him that he was told not to use a spread. again - odd - if you look at the online menu it says spread. tapenade and a few sliced olives are two different animals. during the meeting did a manager say "no matter what! do not use the spread on the greek pizza!"? if the pizza guy says so… i guess he is to be believed. the manager comes out and i told him of my grievances politely. he turned to the pizza guy "you are to use a spread…here, look…" opens fridge "okay - if there is no more, you will have to make some" he took the item off the bill. cool…
when we got the check - our drinks were charged full price. mine, because my wine was not a happy hour wine. how did i know this? because of the happy hour wine list? nope, there was none. the waitress went over the drink specials? nope. when i ordered it - she said "oh that is not one of our wine specials" uh uh. mkkay - so we had to chalk that up and be on our way. the manager came out again and said this is his second week as the manager, and if he was the waitress, he would have made it 3 bucks a drink… this is the manager who said that. the dude with the "key" you know - the "key" that can make it 3 bucks? and why would he say that? why talk about your staff instead of rectifying the situation? he ended it with "well - my name is (i forgot) when you come back i will take care of you…" meh - you know me… bad service + good food = no return. i also feel ripped off because the waitress wanted a fatter check at the end.
