i have been meaning to eat here for ages so off last night with my melbourne foodie friend . very enjoyable dinner. plenty of deep flavour profile....the tuna sashimi was delectable, chickpea fritters came with a tasty little salade but we felt there could have been a couple more for the price. the chowder was a little cold but pleasant and the terakihi was very tasty indeed. the star of the show was the cheeseboard, well selected and presented perfectly....love that little walnut bread that came with it too. nice to have a dinner not loaded with carby ballast. light and delicious. limacher still delivers the delicious. well done team.friendlyand lively. only, next time please dont pour tapwater in my friend's sparkling mineral water.......

after reading several reviews and seeing how well this place was ranked i went and gave it a shot. the food was amazingly well done. everything was cooked to perfection and the flavours of all the dishes went very well together. service was nice andfriendlyif you haven't tried this place i'd recommend it. went to whitebait a few days later and it was really disapointing in terms of value for money and taste i'd definately recommend ortega.

this is a very special restaurant with amazing food and drink. five star michelin quality food withfriendlyservice and an atmosphere that’s not at all pretentious. try the squid, blue warehou, smoked blue moki rillettes - all superb. one of wellington’s best.

so packed but so good. i saw many unfortunate people turned away from this place so a booking is 100% recommended.

the venue. gorgeous. the staff superfriendlyand well versed. the table wasn’t ready for 10mins so they threw champagne at us. nows thats hospitality.

this is in my top three. the food is out of this world the whole vibe of this place is amazing.

there is a reason this is wellington’s number 1 rated restaurant on tripadvisor. one of the great dining experiences i’ve ever have when you combinefriendlyservice and to die for food. when we arrived they promptly bought out a glass of sparkling wine each with compliments... such s welcoming start. bread and butter was next level, kingfish unbelievable as was the crayfish risotto. i didn’t really feel like a main size of the prawn tails in garlic butter sauce so the waitress said she will do an in between size... amazing, probably the best meal i’ve had in months. if you have one meal in wellington let it be this but book in early it’s popular... i understand why now. georgia was one of the great waitresses we’ve ever had... credit to the business

if i could give this restaurant a 6 out of 5 i would! that's how much my wife and i enjoyed our evening there. the wine list is one of the best i've seen in terms of range and price (i.e. german rieslings, chablis, coleraine etc) with many offered by the glass. the service was informal but veryfriendlyand the staff are very knowledgeable about what's on offer. cant recommend this place high enough!

great evening out for my mother’s 80th birthday. complimentary sangria to celebrate on arrival. our waitress was amazing - sofriendlyand efficient. the atmosphere was buzzing and the food was delicious. i took a birthday cake which they brought out surprising mum - this was totally hassle free. highly recommended.

ventured there on the last weekend of wow so we had to book but i understand bookings at anytime are probably the safest bet as this place was humming with people.

the decor is this well appointed kitsch that works in an odd way. the walls are heaving with random pictures but it works well and great for anyone with ocd.

the service is awesome. my water glass was never not full. the wait staff are superfriendlyand we had a couple of laughs with one of them. hope they got the tip i left!

the food is next level. if you don't like seafood, there are limited meat and vege options but, if i'm honest, i would pick somewhere else. i am a seafood fiend. the seafood was just out of this world. i would hate to try and pick anything wrong with it. the ceviche i had as an entree set the tone for the food - it was just chilli infused heaven.

for any riesling fans, try a glass of number 29 on the list. it is a french riesling and by far the nicest i have ever tasted. can't remember the name of it.... something fancy and french!

we had been recommended this restaurant by a friend and as were a girls group down for a few days for the world of wearable arts we decided to give it a try. we were not disappointed.

this is a smaller bistro style restaurant. it has a small but well thought out menu beautifully cooked. it is primarily known for its fish dishes but there were also other gems to eat -the pate was particularly good if the expressions of delight on our faces were anything to go by. everything we had was fabulous and amongst the 4 of us not a single complaint was to be had. plus girls - do try their ladies of leisure cocktail ..oh yeah..

we were so impressed we rebooked immediately to come back two days later - each of us trying something different second time around and once again left well pleased.

i would like to also compliment the staff -in particular kim the manager and tamsin our waitress -who went above and beyond. but all the staff werefriendlyand efficient and when we returned for a second time two days later treated us like we were frequent visitors- even down to remembering our names and what out beverage preferences were - that blew us away. and if i lived in wellington i would definitely be a regular!

they have the best seafood. the fish is cooked to perfection. the staff arefriendlyand they have a very nice sweet wine that they recommended to us.

this place is so awesome. staff are sofriendlyand the atmosphere is nice and cozy (good place for a romantic date). there were 5 of us and we all enjoyed our meals. we went for my son's 17th birthday and they gave us complimentary truffles and his one had a candle to blow out which he was happy about. food is really nice and i cant wait to go back next time.

for someone who isn't a big fan of seafood, i found this place amazing. the moment you walk in you can feel the family vibe in the room, the staff are veryfriendlyand give exceptional suggestions. fantastic service, absolutely amazing food and a wide range of vegetarian options as well. if you are planning on visiting then make a booking first, this restaurant is crazy popular!

this is a favourite of mine, we've been here several times and have been impressed with the menu including drinks and food. the service is veryfriendlyand the tastes are spectacular. if the parking was better it would be perfect, but still worth the walk if required. a great meal and service is second to none.

this was the perfect night out for every reason. amazingfriendlywarm service from every waiter who spoke to us. a delicious negroni cocktail to start followed by equally awesome food. every dish we had was so tasty and beautiful . the seafood was impeccable and the best meal of our trip to wellington. not being from the area we asked for a wine selection and it was exactly what we wanted and $20 cheaper then our first pick.

after dinner we moved to the bar for more local wine and spirits and the bar tender was super knowledgable and let us try lots of things. he opened a special bottle of rare wine and let us have it by the glass though usually only sold by the bottle.

we actually didn't want to leave . we the were recommended a bar to continue on to which was helpful afriendlyof the bartender.

i can't recommend this place enough .

ortega fish shack is my favourite wellington restaurant. absolutely delicious food accompanied byfriendlyand knowledgeable staff and a huge range of fine wines. top quality produce and atmosphere every time. i totally recommend it.
