great food with almost too good service!. never thought i would say this about a restaurant, but the service here was almost too good! the food wasdeliciousand the wait staff were happy to accommodate our dietary restrictions to create a special dish. the food came out so quickly, that our romantic dinner ended too soon!

one of the best fine dining seafood restaurants i have been too. my first ever try at deep fried oysters they weredeliciousand came with 3 dipping sides. all our mains were great but just make shure to be prepared for the pricing, but definatly well worth it. amazing staff, well presented.

outstanding !! you must try, but best book as it was super busy when we got there and people were waiting for tables.

menu is great all the dishes we had weredeliciousmostly fish or seafood based but they do have some meat dishes in there for the meat lovers i will definitely go back.

this was the perfect night out for every reason. amazing friendly warm service from every waiter who spoke to us. adeliciousnegroni cocktail to start followed by equally awesome food. every dish we had was so tasty and beautiful . the seafood was impeccable and the best meal of our trip to wellington. not being from the area we asked for a wine selection and it was exactly what we wanted and $20 cheaper then our first pick.

after dinner we moved to the bar for more local wine and spirits and the bar tender was super knowledgable and let us try lots of things. he opened a special bottle of rare wine and let us have it by the glass though usually only sold by the bottle.

we actually didn't want to leave . we the were recommended a bar to continue on to which was helpful a friendly of the bartender.

i can't recommend this place enough .

ortega fish shack is my favourite wellington restaurant. absolutelydeliciousfood accompanied by friendly and knowledgeable staff and a huge range of fine wines. top quality produce and atmosphere every time. i totally recommend it.

we dined here for dinner with a large group of 11. the food was fantastic all round - could not fault a thing and all enjoyed the evening.
there are some standout points, waitress was great, very friendly. they allowed us to taste a couple of wines before we purchased a few bottles, they had a fantastic fish and chips for kids, great wine list,deliciousdeserts.
i'd happily go back again. we did have an upstairs table, which for the group worked just fine. also have to commend them on taking a large group with minimal notice (1 hour.....).

went for lunch with a group on friday.

it was a typical cold, wet and very windy wellington day, but ortega's was warm and welcoming.

a good lunchtime set menu, and a great wine list was served well by the staff.

an entree of bluff oysters (either au natural or tempura battered) was well received.

the appetiser of garlic prawns was a little bit "meh" for me, but certainly seemed to go down well around the table.

the main was a choice of beef or fish, i personally enjoyed a very nice beef fillet cooked medium-rare to perfection.

all three course were served with wines, with the steward prepared to delve into his list to find interesting matches.

a cheeseboard for desert - you pay by the weight of cheese you eat sounded like it would bedelicious- but i'd had my fill.

overall a great way to spend a couple of hours on a cold friday afternoon - and i'd certainly return.

recommended
