orso

boring. the first issue i had was that orso felt a little unfriendly to the single diner. i stopped by early in the evening (5:15) and was given a terrible table even though the place was empty. they have this great wine app that looked like it would be a lot of fun to place with, but the waitress hovered over me waiting for me to make a decision on wine. at first i thought it was because i was only ordering wine by the glass, but then i noticed she did it to the other tables as well. she seemed to have a very "olive garden" approach to serving. she was trying to turn the early tables quickly.
i ordered the wild mushroom ravioli as my entree and it came covered in white button mushrooms and a very bland broth. the food was not bad, it just didn't taste like anything. the dish was really boring. i ended up eating only half, not because i wasn't hungry anymore, but because i was just so board with the dish. i had fully planned at having dessert, but after that meal i just asked for my check, at the delight of my server. i would not go back to orso.

nice splurge dinner. when i used to travel to anchorage for work i'd eat at orso, and every time didn't get what the fuss was about. when we moved up here permanently neither my husband nor i had any intention of going - until our realtor gave us a gift card as a "thanks for your business" gift; can't pass up a free dinner.

i was pleasantly surprised. i ordered the halibut with scallops and couscous with a caper sauce. the halibut and scallops were perfectly cooked, though the accompanying sauce was a bit too salty. i cannot remember what my husband ordered (he changed his mind at the last minute), but his was good as well.

maybe it was because i went in with such low expectations, but i've moved orso, if not into the favorite category, into the "i'll no longer tell somebody not to eat there" category.

peso is a great place at happy hour for fine wines and tempting appetizers. i go there often. atmosphere is upscale and european in mood. great contrast to anchorage urban scene.

overhyped. orso has good food. i went in expecting a nice dinner, i was told it's one of the few places that takes reservations & people dress up for. there was no reason to dress up. next to me, people were wearing jeans and carhart jackets.

but the food was good and the service was great. i'd like it if they would update the decor and lighting. the server knew his wines and the food was spectacularly presented.

overall it's a good experience, but if you want a quiet romantic dinner, i'd look elsewhere. which is sad, because orso is in a great location.

great ambiance. i went there with my boyfriend for a romantic night out, the service was awesome. we did have to wait for a while to get a table but were able to sit at the bar and have drinks during the wait. the food was really good, we ordered a bizarre drink and the waitress/bartender was more than willing to accomodate. about $120 for drinks, appetizers, 2 entrees and dessert. i'd pay that much again for the experience.

orso. both food and service keep going downhill, what used to be a great place it is now mediocre. at lunch today only one person was running the entire bar area which made service slow, ordered salmon and french fries and i got a small plate with the salmon and a large plate with the fries, horrible presentation, will not go back

couldn't believe we'd have to wait over 20 mins on a wednesday night. bottom line- make a reservation. the service was superb! they run a very good kitchen. my only complaint was they burned the bottom of our spinach & artichoke dip, and werent aware of it. but they kept our glasses full & bread on the table. i ordered the osso buco and it was very tasty. the au jus was delicious! a very large portion! the basalmic chop chop salad was also very good! $100 for two to eat after drinks, apps and tip. worth it compared to a lot of other places in downtown anchorage, that offer rude service and okay food with high prices. i wouldn't take my small children there, but they definitely can accommodate them if needed. we will be back!

didn't expect good italian food in alaska. but that's what we got! my daughter and i enjoyed a lovely pasta lunch here. the scallops were huge and fresh, the alfredo sauce was rich and creamy, and the salads crisp and flavorful.

try drinks and appetizers. once again, i haven't tried a full-dinner here yet. but the once i tried orso, it was a decent experience.

we sat on the bar side and had no wait for seats, just for a snack and drinks on a week night and had a good time. the ambiance was mellow, the bartender was attentive (even using her iphone to find a recipe for a fellow barpatron), and the alaskan chorizo flatbread we ordered was really delicious and quite generously sized.

though my drink was a little too sweet (a personal preference), the wine flight my boyfriend ordered was reasonably price (less expensive than crush!). just sitting on the bar side for drinks and an appetizer was not more expensive than any other place in the city and had a better atmosphere. i'm excited to try orso for dinner, someday.

disapointing. filet mignon was badly chared. seared is one thing but charcoal is another, especially on a medium rare steak!
was supposed to come on a risotto. came on polenta..this was our second visit in 4 years. the first was as bad as the second. won't be a third time.

best deal on king crab dinner. you will not get a better priced king crab dinner anywhere else, its why i go! the last time i went it took way way to long to get our check and i'm not exaggerating here, from the time we ordered desert to the time we got it was 40 minutes...wtf mate right? its like they baked it 20 minutes after we ordered it. my other experiences have been positive, and we were sitting in the bar so maybe this caused us to get "forgotten". i would go here again because i'm happy with the quality of the food but hopefully the service is better next time.

disappointing. given the recommendations by the professionals, i was expecting a good meal. i was sorely disappointed, both by the food, and service. bread tasteless, salad overdressed, and warm. pasta overcooked. very disappointing.

great atmosphere/food so-so. had the mushroom ravioli and my dinner date had the white king salmon. we thought both were just okay. service was okay. the high note was the carrot cake -- it was delicious (but not big enough to split).
