the beans. as i write this, i am eating some of their beans cold they are so good. we had family in from out of state. i had to go back twice to get another quart of the beans, they ate them like no tomorrow. they also loved the spicy cole slaw and niether of them really were cole slaw lovers. the chopped brisket was great thistimeand not dry at all. perfect. their hot bbq sauce is the bomb. hide some of the beans, or there will be none for you left. ha

good stuff. we got ribs, chopped brisket and pulled chicken. the ribs were excellent, meaty, hardly any fat and just the right amount of smoke. the chicken was a tad dry but had good flavor and with a little sauce on it, was good. same for the chopped brisket, good flavor, a tad dry but over all, good with sauce on it. try the hotter bbq sauce ,it's so good. steer clear of the fried okra, it was tough and fried whole. good beans with chopped brisket in them. mmm. i liked the twist on the spicy cole slaw. there's a tad of spicy bbq sauce flavor in there, no goopiness. great flavor. my only complaint is their lack in the number of sides to pick from. there's 3. that's it. oh you can get fries instead with a .50 upcharge which i guess is ok. but where's the corn on the cob, and other choices? we'll try them again, if nothing more than the hot bbq sauce and ribs, good enough to go back. friendly and efficient the day i went.

horrible burnt ends and coleslaw.. i at oklahoma joes for the firsttimein broken arrow. i had a hankering for burnt ends. the only ones i've ever tried are from gates barbecue in kansas city. let me tell you, if you like burnt ends and are as picky as i am especially when you're paying a good price, you expect a great tender burnt ends and good smoky flavor. there is really not much comparison as the difference in quality is so much greater at gates bbq. oklahoma joe's would be like a little leaguer in a league with gates. needless to say i was very disappointed and will never ever be back ever. the other issue was broken arrow location has no place to sit for those who place an order in person or over the phone 4 for pickup. another issue is there coleslaw it has a thousand island type colored dressing in it and actually a little dirty or colored and is very sweet absolutely horrible. don't fall for the hype of this place it is nothing more than a cheap billy sims barbecue. nuff said without belittling them too much just don't waste yourtimeor money.

my son and i were very excited to go to oklahoma joes because we had heard good reviews. we were met at the door by a friendly employee who recommended the burnt end sandwich. we went to the cashier and ordered and i was surprised that the sandwich was ten dollars each but dismissed this though because i figured a side was coming with it too. nope i was wrong just a cold sandwich with three slices of pickles! the meat itself was edible but also had plenty of fat too! come on oklahoma joes! you could at least offer a reasonably priced lunchtimesandwich with a couple of sides like some other barbecue places offer! we definitely will will not be back! we were definitely burnt on the quality and price of the burnt ends sandwich!!

great food!. firsttimehere and really liked it. they aren't lying about good ribs! they were excellent! so was the brisket. beans were very different but good. the other 4 guys i was with all raved about how good their food was too. so no complaints from 5 out of 5 at our table. friendly service and a nice clean place. i usually like small shack type bbq places, this had a corporate feel to it, more like an applebees or red lobster, but the food was way better than both of those. i was scared at first, but the food made up for the lack of character of the building.

i visited ok joes a couple days ago and the food as usual is always good. there is a older lady who is fairly new i believe and not that friendly. i asked for a couple of bbq sauces for my sandwich and while she was pouring the sauce she got it on her fingers and then kicked her fingers and put the lid on the sauce. i was a little disgusted by this , then after she does that she walks up to me and another customer ands says" wow i shouldn't have licked that sauce off my fingers it is hot". i love the food and the place as a whole but this lady needs some food handling skills.

great bbq. burnt ends and pulled pork is awesome.

-----28 mar, 2013-----

the new loco bbq sauce is awesome. the new hot links from siegis not as good as the old ones were, they seem a little tough to me. now the loco sauce on burnt ends = :)

not as good as kc. firsttimewe ate there our food was cold. the secondtimewas better but i think back alley bbq downtown is better. joes needs to have mustard potato salad instead of mayo in my opinion. prices are pretty high too.

this single, solitary point intimewhen oklahoma joe’s bbq sauce hit the tip of my tongue tonight for the firsttimesince 1998 was, perhaps, my single greatest moment as a foodie so far. it was a moment that reminds me why i take pictures of the food i eat.

re: oklahoma joe's bbq. i'm sorry, but i have to agree with mr. schustermann on this one. the accolades at ok joe's are excessive. big restaurant chains don't show off their awards. they just serve good, consistent food and that is his point.

this restaurants owner 'turn the tables' sort of speak with the reference to scripture and making it personal is out of bounds, imo.

i was in kansas city recently and asked an ok joe's employee there if the ok joe's in broken arrow was part of their group. he chuckled, smiled and said, "we're asked this a lot. they used to be partners, but not anymore. they share names, but beyond that there's no connection. our food is very different." i'm just repeating what they told me. if they were connected the way this owner implies, then why wouldn't they say so?

i think ok joe's in broken arrow stretches the truth when they tie things like anthony bourdain's comments that ok joe's is one of the "13 places to eat before he dies". they're not talking about ok joe's in ba. he means ok joe's in kansas city and only kansas city. is this deceitful advertising? judge for yourself.

lousy service, cold food. i had a bbb sandwich from oklahoma joe's while at the cain's ballroom a month or so back, so i and some friends decided to go visit their broken arrow location. unfortunately it wasn't the best trip.
it took them forever to deliver our food and when they did the order had two out of three entrees completely wrong. by thetimethe food arrived that was right, everything was cold. when i asked the manager to heat our food you would have thought i asked for our money back and a free car. not very polite.
bad service with high prices so the experience wasn't that memorable. i don't think i'll be back or the three other people i was with either.

not worth the drive out there. i went with some friends a couple of weeks ago with high expectations. the place was dead on a wednesday night around 7:00. inside was very cute and clean. we ordered from a counter and pick the food up when it is ready. some people had it brought out to them. i had spareribs and a quarter chicken. i wasn't asked dark or white, i got wjhite. i would rather have had dark. it came with choice of sides, i got beans and slaw. my friends ordered hot links and ribs and we split fried okra. the ribs were fine, fall off the bone and tasty. my chicken was dry and not much flavor. the beans were okay, the slaw was tangy, i liked that. the okra was a surprise, they were fried whole and sure looked and tasted fresh. i don't know where to find fresh okra thistimeof year, but i'll bet a dollar they were fresh, and good. toasted bread came with the meals and we each had a beer. i thought the prices were very reasonable, but the food wasn't worth the drive from my home at 91st and memorial out there. i have 3 or 4 other decent bbq joints within a couple of miles from here.

after having lived in kc for several years and being a huge fan of oklahoma joe's up there i was excited yet skeptical when i heard of this one in broken arrow. i've given this place a couple of chances and have been left largely unimpressed. the firsttimei went i ordered my usual, a jumbo pulled pork sandwich. this sandwich was extremely greasy. so greasy that i had difficulty eating it before my bun crumbled from its sogginess. the sauces were just ok. not terrible but nothing that made my eyes pop. the fries were not bad either. i decided to give them another chance and ordered the same thing. it was less greasy the secondtimebut still nowhere near the quality i would expect from a restaurant that is at least attempting to claim some form of similarity to the unbelievable bbq in kc that anthony bourdain found fit to be one of his 13 places to eat before you die.

it's not a terrible bbq joint, but by comparison to its neighbor to the north it is very disappointing. i'm sure better can be found in tulsa too, i would hope.

if you need a place to eat after going to bass pro you will be fine. you'll be satisfied enough. however, if you're looking to experience the hype that surrounds oklahoma joe's, don't let yourself be fooled in to thinking this is what it is about. save your opinion for after you've taken a trip to kc.

not happy. we had been enloying our experiences at oklahoma joe's until this past sunday. wife and i went their specifically to get the grand champion platter which is supposed to be the special on sunday (2 free drinks) first i had to remind the cashier that the drinks were supposed to be free. when our platter came out we were not impressed with its contents or quality. 2 very tiny ribs, very small portions of briskit, pork and turkey which were also very dry and a tough as nails hot link that we could hardly cut. i think we'll go back to kc smokehouse nexttimesince we are always assured of consistently delicious food.

just ok. when famous dave's closed we were suddenly left without our favorite bbq joint and had to find another. we tried oklahoma joe's on a whim one day and were very pleased with their food. the ribs were good as were the beans and thats how i rate good bbq. i can maked pulled pork at home but if the ribs n beans are good i'm sold.
the only thing negative comment i have is that this place is a little pricey for a bbq joint without waitress service and its a little hairy trying to negotiate a mobbed room while balancing a tray of food and drinks. because of this i give it an overall rating of c+.
good but overall not great.

reply to brad gibson review alias tim duggan. hello,
joe davidson here, the owner of oklahoma joe's bbq. while i certainly appreciate honest reviews, as everyone has a right to express their opinions. i find it difficult to take seriously, a review written by a former public relations employee that is obviously disgruntled. the lasttimehe was in our store was the day he was terminated back in the summer of 2012 therefore i question its relevance.

overall i think oklahoma joe's is a decent option for a q-raunt and obviously from the lunch crowd on a sunday it's a popular option in broken arrow. at the sametimeknowing that oklahoma joe's is an institution of the kansas city bbq scene. a scene i have not yet made it to try personally. i'm hoping it's not what i'll be eating when i finally make it to kansas city. because while i would probably add it to my regular rotation if i lived in the tulsa area. i wouldn't make a 6 hour drive to eat it like i'll be making when i finally get to k.c..

championship top quality ribs. once again, kudos to oklahoma joe's bbq on the best, tasty and perfectly smoked ribs with just the right amount of rub and a wonderful taste. no wonder joe's is a champion on ribs! and let me add that the beans were great along with the spicy cole slaw that really caught my taste buds by surprise. we don't mind the wait in line and the whole layout is just right. folks are always friendly and eager to help. a good clean place for the amount of patrons who are also eating everything on their plates as well. it's still all good at oklahoma joes, who i give 10 for ribs!

-----04 mar, 2012-----

go for the ribs!. this is the secondtimewe've eaten at oklahoma joe's bbq. and this time, all i can say is "go for the ribs". this is absolutely the best bbq ribs i've ever had, period, hands down to anything else. the ribs were just awesome. i ordered the dinner with ribs and choice of extra meat (hot links) and side (baked beans). the wife had sliced brisket, which she loved too! now i don't have to drive all the way to muskogee for decent bbq...i've found the best place right here at oklahoma joes bbq!

enjoyed oklahoma joe's bbq. while visiting my father-in-law and sister-in-law in kansas city, we have eaten several times at the oklahoma joe's bbq there. it is located in an old gas station. part of the building is a small convenience store and the other part is the bbq place. no matter thetimeof day or day of the week the place usually has a long line going out the front door. since it is small and has limited tables, it can take a while to get into eat. there is a call-in carry-out area. we have found the bbq delicious, beef brisket sandwich or ribs. love their spicy cole slaw and beans. potato salad is okay.

so in late march we tried out the oklahoma joe's located in broken arrow (i wish they had opened in tulsa as i like for my sales tax to go to tulsa where i live).

we were there on a saturday evening at 8 p.m. their website showed they closed at 10, instead they closed at 9. we ordered the beef brisket, beans, potato salad and spicy cole slaw.

the meat was sort of warm instead of hot, but there was plenty of meat and it was tender and delicious. we did enjoy the sides.

i would suggest that they make sure their meats are kept hot for serving.

i love the the spacious, neat looking building.
