ocean basket

we shared the 'platter for 2' with 3 extra sides (of course! 😉) to share for dinner last night. everything was tasty and cooked to perfection! our server was friendly but also difficult to reach.

waited over 40minutes for sushi take-away order only to have our salmon sandwiches be vegetarian and salmon athena crunchy rolls be tuna.

suffices to say. do not recommend.

my husband & i, are total favorites of ocean basket. we tend to move between different branches to experience different environments. we were so disappointed in the the service we recieved. our waiter was on a constant rush, when our glasses an utensils was brought it was as if it was just thrown on the table. we had to constantly remind the waiter what we /ordered. we waited so long for our mains. when it eventually came there was fried calamari strips on the platter an not the calamari heads you would expect. my husband then asked if they got the order wrong an they said, no they substitute it. with this my husband asked why they hadn't informed us about it. so that we could have decided for ourselves. with this we were asked what we would want instead an eventually swopped it for oysters. the fish was semi burnt an the sauce was extremely watery.

i’ve been to this newly opened ob quiet a few times and i must say i’m really impressed upon each visit.
it’s one of the few fully halaal branches - which is awesome!

always the loviest staff/waitrons. quick service, even on their busier days. good tasting fish and seafood, really delicious sushi!

i’d recommend everyone to try it out.
a definite return for me, again and again!

i enjoyed the hake and chips at ocean basket kenilworth centre, since the restaurant has reopened they now have comfortable seating inside the restaurant.

then for dessert i would recommend the baklava cheesecake.

the service is excellent and so far it has been the best service i have received at a ocean basket.

had a great experience at this branch. ordered a starter haloumi and a platter for 2. every item on the platter was fresh. we also had wonderful service from out waitress. was too hungry to take any pictures of anything.

ordered take aways from this place yesterday. terrible food. fish dry and rubbery, prawns overdone, calamari fried to a hard consistency. even the chips were terrible. absolutely awful.

so glad that there is another strictly halaal ocean basket branch besides the vangate mall one since this is closer to us.
the restaurant manager, rashied, made sure to make us feel at home and was very welcoming and accommodating and made sure we were happy throughout our time there. our waiter also made sure to keep us updated on the progress of our meal which was very helpful.
we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will definitely be back to this branch more regularly when we crave some good quality seafood!

gave up on trying ocean basket sushi it’s just a no go for me however everything else is just so pleasing to the tastebuds.
their prawns are great not too small.
the mussel sauce as always is something from another planet, i do not like their rice. it’s heavy and plasticky, i prefer light basmati rice, if they had an option to choose different rice it would be great.

i have a complaint regarding the service, the quality of your food, the lack of cleanliness in your restaurant.

firstly the service was slow and non communicative. i came with my parents and they ordered hot food and i ordered sushi. she did not ask me whether she should only make the sushi just before the hot food is ready. so i saw that the sushi was standing for 25 min. once i got the sushi, it was so dry and unappetizing.

secondly, the waiters and manager was walking through prawn shells that fell from a plate earlier and they were aware of the fact that it was there but nobody seemed to want to clean it up. which is very concerning to me as a customer who is receiving for food.

ocean basket as chain is a predictable source of decent fish especially their calamari and their sushi. there are some items that are a bit better or worse store dependent.

for my visit to this branch i ordered the starter crumbled prawns, mussels in lemon butter and a platter for one which all came to the table super fast.

the herb mayo on the prawn number was very watered down - not a mayo consistency but still tasty. the lemon butter sauce i’ve noticed has the biggest variance from store to store. my favorite lemon butter sauce is made by the port alfred branch as it’s a lot thicker (a personal preference).

the calamari on the platter was very tender and the fish cooked well.

overall i would say the stand out features of this outlet is the speed of service and not being cramped.

after many bad experiences with ocean basket sushi - i gave this branch a go and whilst it was an improvement on the sushi i'd had at the canal walk and waterfront branches - it was still bland and the rice wasn't the freshest so overall they just need to work on their sushi. however, the prawns i ordered were so good!

had to try out the brand new store in kenilworth. the overall appearance and atmosphere has improved tremendously. ordered grilled angel fish and stir fried veg. the food was a good portion and i was especially impressed with the veggies, it was crisp and well seasoned. my dad ordered the same yet his fish portion was tiny. management soon resolved this and brought back a portion double the size of the original. the brothers enjoyed the fried hake. the overall decor is somewhat "romantic" and relaxing. i was disappointed when they said that they charge an extra r7.50 for more bread.

really enjoyed the seafood and more especially the service at this branch. my partner and i both ordered their special which was a platter for one with extra mussels. the food was lovely and tasty. the service stood out. our waitress was rachel and she was so competent and attentive, she made it seem like she enjoyed serving us. i appreciated that. also good to note ocean basket has a new mediterranean sushi menu which i'll be back to try soon.

i particularly do not like the service here. waiters have these distinctive attitudes when presenting your order or even coming to check up on you.

the sushi is good, but not the best i've ever had. i love ocean basket but i can name two other branches that has pleased me more than this one.
