personal care for food allergies !. my son has life-threatening tree nut allergies and finding a safe restaurant at which to eat is a huge challenge. most restaurants are not prepared for me to ask for ingredient labels and do not understand cross-contamination, and if i don't feel great about it, we don't eat there. nico's cocina owner, joaquin, and the manager nina, were wonderful when i called with my concerns about my son's food allergies. they set up a meeting with me a few days before. they make every item from scratch at nico's and checked the labels of all cheese and other ingredients that are brought in. they do not serve nuts in any dishes and on the occasion of a special order (rare) they would buy them then and make the item, but joaquin would know and would keep them separate from my son's food. we checked in with joaquin when we arrived and he met my son and personally took care of our food. the oil was safe because nothing with a nut ingredient had ever been in it, so he could eat chips and everything! i felt totally comfortable and we will be back again and again. nico's even offers free kids' plates for a and b honor roll students! my son was able to eat freely and totally enjoy his birthday dinner (and so did mom!) the food was great and plentiful. the swirl margarita yummy!
i really wanted to find a special restaurant for my son's 8th birthday with a playground and i hit on nico's! the playground is suitable for all ages, though the equipment is for about ages 2-6. there are two forts with slides, a 4 child bicycle that goes around in a circle and two in-ground bouncy ride-ons, and wood chipplaysurface. even though the equipment was a little young, my son had fun playing on it with his cousins and little brother, and being able toplaybefore and way after we sat down to eat. the back patio had tons of seating for many families to sit and relax with a great view of their kids. nico's is at the corner of josey and frankford in carrollton, very close to sh 190. highly recommend!!
