outrageously good. this place was suggested to us by a couple of taiwanese foreign exchange students as anexcellentrestaurant. they were dead on.

we tried a few different things. the basil was delicious and fresh. the pad thai was wonderfully authentic and flavorful. the mango chicken yellow curry was borderline perfect. but the highlight of the meal was the mixed seafood in a green curry sauce. it was chock full of fresh, large scallops, tail-on large shrimp, four clams, lobster, and squid. it also had eggplant, shiitake mushrooms, green and red peppers, and fresh snap peas as well. it was so good it literally brought tears to my eyes; so good, the sauce could have been served in a pint glass and drank. this dish was literally the highlight of my visit to pittsburgh.

the menu here is extensive, and the restaurant (from what i hear) is virtually always packed. the ambiance is great as well.

my only complaint, which is very minor and mostly my fault, is i ordered my food thai spicy. i am no lightweight for spicy food, and enjoy very hot meals. so when i ordered my food "thai spicy", i knew it was going to be spicy but had no idea it was going to be that spicy. i was warned by my waiter that it was going to be hot, but o lord jesus its a fire. nicky's has a sliding scale of mild, medium, hot, thai spicy, and extremely spicy so i didn't think it would be too hot to eat. but by the end of my meal, i was sweating from my face down to my chest. be weary!

we had a great night.... we ate here with another couple to celebrate a birthday. the outside patio is an unexpected oasis in the middle of the north side with the background sound of subtle music and fountains that drown out the street noise, and canopies above the tables to block out the sun. this place isexcellentfor both a casual night out or a romantic dinner, is byob and the waitstaff always seems to be around when you need something but never right on top of you. best crab rangoons ever.

afternoon lunch with the mrs.. my wife and i had a free saturday afternoon to have lunch together (a rarity). she let me pick a place, so rather than go for the gastronomic junk food places i usually frequent i decided to try something new. i was going to go to the green mango to try their pad thai but didn't want to drive all the way over to point breeze so i suggested we try nicky's thai kitchen. i was originally going to go their with my sister when my wife and her husband were out-of-town, but she's kind of a wuss at trying new places she's never been to, heard of, or foods that are different. so i decide to go their and boy was i ever glad we did. the storefront is small and place is tight but the food is excellent. we shared the satay sampler and tom yum soup for the first course and my wife had the mango chicken salad and i had the beef pad thai. i'm no expert in thai cuisine, but the food was delicious. the soup was ordered at a heat level of 5 and my pad thai was a 7. i thought the soup was spicier than the pad thai. i suppose most of the pepper flakes in the soup accumulated at the bottom since i was finishing up what my wife couldn't finish. the pad thai was spicy, but not overly so. i enjoyed every last bite. the satay was good, but not outstanding. the chicken mango salad wasexcellentas my wife ate everything except for the huge amounts of red onions they use. red onions don't always agree with her (at least that many). overall, anexcellentafternoon meal with my wife where we could order things my son would never try and linger in adult conversation. i'll be back.

impressive. the care and execution that clearly goes into each dish is unrivaled. i had lunch there consisting of super tender and crispy calamari decorated with carved vegetables, salad, andexcellentpumpkin curry for less money than a latte and a muffin at starbucks. it's crazy, this place should be going under for how inexpensive their food is. the service is great too. but my favorite thing about nicky's is the back patio.

dedicated to excellence. hi, i'm david brunner, general manager of nicky's thai kitchen. it has been our pleasure to provideexcellentfood and service to the northside community for a little over a year now. the owner nicky, as well as myself have enjoyed the opportunity to bring more business and dining options to this great pittsburgh neighborhood.

we care greatly for this neighborhood and care for our customers from both the northside and elsewhere who have supported this restaurant. it has come to my attention that some rumors have started via this website about a lack of care and respect for our customers. this couldn't be further from the truth. nick, our staff and i take every opportunity to make sure that all of our customers are treated with great respect, and strive to deliver the proper food in a timely manner both for dining in and take out. direct honest feedback whenever an incident arises is greatly appreciated so that any errors or misunderstandings can be corrected and prevented in the future.

respect of our fellow employees is also a very important part of our restaurant. no one is perfect and occasionally there can be frustration and heated dialogue when trying to run a competitive, fast paced, multi-lingual restaurant that strives for excellence, especially when an employee repeatedly fails to follow the owner's policies. these incidents are treated as private staff matters. i am not at the restaurant all the time, but i have personally never witnessed any "public" display of staff being disciplined and "humiliation" of staff is definitely something i have never witnessed.

i have attempted to contact the reviewer "northsider" to get a better understanding of what event he or she was a witness to. northsider has not responded. the co-workers however said they witnessed a small arguement which occurred last week as an employee decided to quit in a less than positive way. i was not present at the time, but coworkers who were there describe a much different story than the ones posted in the two reviews. i did get a very polite and helpful email from frank77 describing his view of what happened. i appreciate any more feedback as i try to get to the bottom of this matter.

customer and staff relations is important to us. if you have been a witness to any of these things, please contact me directly so that i can get a better understanding of what exactly went on. by learning from mistakes, nicky's thai kitchen hopes to continue improving and providing top quality thai dining to the northside and the rest of the pittsburgh region.

thank you again for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you at the restaurant!
