poorservicebut great food. new shanghai is quintessentially 'authentic' in that it views quality of food more important than service. you'll find that in most restaurants in mainland china; the food speaks for itself, not the service!

i've been going to new shanghai since it opened, and each time, the food is consistently good. dumplings are their specialty but everything that we've ordered in the past years have been good.

best food joint in queen's street mall, and brilliant value for money. long may this place prosper.

horrible service, average food. out of 6 dishes we ordered, only 2 were above average. despite the most amazing prawn dumplings i have ever had, the horrificserviceand rudeness of every single staff member we dealt with brought this restaurant down in my eyes and i'll never be coming back here again. disappointed.

xiao long bao!!

the kitchen is a big feature of this restaurant in the queens plaza food court with a large window so you can see the staff making dumplings. we tried the hot and sour soup and a shanghai fried noodle dish which were delicious but the highlight of our meal was the xiao long bao (soup dumplings). we tried the classic pork and the pork and crab versions and they were both amazing - flavoursome, good dumpling skin and cooked to perfection. theservicewas pretty good too - we didn't have to wait too long to get in and once we had ordered, the food came out quite quickly.

their 小笼包 and 红烧肉 are definitely the best. i don't think new shanghai is expensive at all. however, their 炸酱面was a bit disappointing. overall, not a bad place to try out chinese cuisine. the only thing bad about the place is that there's noserviceinside so you can't use your phone.

only order item 201 (steamed pork dumpling with soup inside) - it is delicious. otherwise, theserviceis absolutely horrendous - a waitress spilt a full bottle of soy sauce all over me absolutely ruining my shirt, my partners shirt and pants, and splattering the occupants at the next table. it was an absolute nightmare trying to get fair compensation. when you ask to speak to the manager, they really should send the manager out instead of another waitress.

worstserviceever. the waiter forgot to put the order in the system. after waiting for 45 minutes, no one checked on our table, i asked him how much longer it would be, he apologised and said that he forgot to put the order in the system. 10 minutes later he brought 1 serve of dumplings, i couldn’t wait for the rest of the order and asked if i can just pay for that 1 serve to which the manager said no; so had to wait even longer to get the rest of the order takeaway. the waiter was very apologetic but the manager didn’t care at all, didn’t even look in our direction. she shouldn’t work in a restaurant if she doesn’t know what’s the right way to treat customers.

conveniently located in the city in queens plaza, this restaurant usually has a long line during lunch. before you enter the restaurant you see people in the kitchen making the xiao long bao. their signature dish. most of the food here is decent. though theservicecould be improved.

pip ondadip and i initially visited new shanghai in ashfield, sydney and was obviously excited to try it here in brisbane. the dining was was spacious and vibrant, customerservicewas also very welcoming and friendly.
we ordered a variety of dishes, ranging from xiao long baos, truffled xiao long bao, pan fried pork buns and truffle pot stickers.
everything was obviously delicious and the truffle menu is a definite must try!!!!!

has always been a big favourite due to the consistent quality of the food. however recent visits have been disappointing. dumplings are still ok, but the main dishes such as the shanghainese noodles are smaller than usual and haphazardly thrown together.servicehasn't always been great, but it seems to have dropped even lower. might as well go to the one at the myer food court.

we headed to new shanghai for lunch today to celebrate a colleague coming to visit, but had a really poor experience. there was a table available outside, and as a group of 6, we were happy to take it. theservicewas very slow. in fact, we had to go and find someone to take our order. we asked for table water, but none arrived, so again we had to go in and find someone to help us. the waiter who delivered the water carried the glasses with his fingers inside them! yeugh. we noticed diners at the tables near us, who arrived after us, started to receive their food. after 30 minutes we still hadn't received anything, so we asked 3 different waiting staff about our order. when someone came out and wrote down our order again, went to check, but didn't return to let us know what was happening, we left hungry and bitterly disappointed as we had to get back to work.

environment was bad, not child friendly. the air condition was not working well, hot!servicewas terrible! saw a cockroach crawling up the wall, floor and corner are filthy!
