a favorite close to home. my husband and i spent our honeymoon in new orleans, and try to go back once a year for a week or so to enjoy the food and atmosphere. we have been to all kinds of restaurants in new orleans, some good and some we wouldn't return to, but if there's anything consistent about new orleans cajun food, it is inconsistency. that being said, this restaurant located 5 minutes from our home in greensboro encompasses the best of what we loved about dining in new orleans as far as food goes. the decor needs some help, i think everyone can agree. need some wild colors on the walls, aged wood, give it an old bluesy feel, put some nola inspired art on the walls, and add antiques everywhere! the city of new orleans is very old, has tons of character, doesn't get too clean or contemporary, this restaurant should feel the same, so that the scenery matches the food. (i'm an artist myself, so the sensory experience is important to me.)

the food is on the upper part of our pricing scale, so this is a "once in a while, like tax time or anniversary" sort ofplacefor us...as i said, i'm an artist, not to mention we have 4 kids who want to order the shrimp platter, and spending $15 for a 7 year old's dinner seems a bit outrageous to me!

the last time we came in, we got the fried crawfish appetizer, my first time having crawfish, and found it to be soft and fresh. i was expecting a rubbery frozen lobster or shrimp texture, but i was pleasantly surprised. everything we ordered tasted great, and the service was good enough for me to break convention and give more than our usual tip percentage.

love it here, just fix those boring walls, and turn up the volume on the jazz music!

great service. let me say this; i have never tasted a good jambalaya as i have at this location. i've tried a variety of the dishes here ranging from the crab legs to the po boy sandwich and let me tell you, it doesn't get any better than this outside of new orleans. i go to uncg and was told about thisplaceby my friends who go every week. as a college student i don't have much money to spare, but when i do i don't mind getting a hurricane mixed drink and a brownie with ice cream from this location. i would recommend anyone who's reading this review to give theplacea try before making a judgement. one of the most pleasant surprises in my life here in greensboro.

overall experience was terrible. i would not recommend this restaurant to anyone....the only good thing about thisplaceis the club on friday and saturday nights....the food was bad and tasted terrible....the drinks were extremely cheap tasting. i ordered a long island and instead of making an authentic long island that fridays, ruby tuesday or red lobster makes we recieved a long island that came from a long island mix. the food tasted like it came from a pan that had another type of food in it before our food was cooked. the food was cold and the waitress and hostess was bad. i would never ever recommend thisplaceto anyone looking for a good time. please do not go to this restaurant you are wasting your money. i usually don't do reviews but i have to post this before someone else goes through what we went through.

don't let the deep purple color of the building turn you off, thisplacerocks the cajun dishes. the jambalaya, gumbo, and red beans and rice were excellent. the seafood trio could have been a little fresher, but the scampi sauce was heaven. hush puppies and fish and chips not bad either.

really bad food and service. my family went here a few months ago since we are always willing to try a newplacefor seafood. awful - the food had no taste. i mean seriously - no taste. served lukewarm. took forever. not sure who owns thisplacebut i am surprised that they are still open. i assume they are surviving on bar business? when i was there, quite a few employees were just hanging at the bar drinking. thisplaceis a joke.

love it. my husband and i chose thisplacefor our date night location. looking at the menu, the prices was what we expected (expensive). but the food was excellent. the garlic mussel was great. i had fried alligator and my husband had the king crab legs. i must say we both was very full when we left. our waitress was very professional and kind. even the manager came but our table to make sure we were ok. i'm very pleased with this restaurant and i like it more then red lobster. will be going back for my birthday.

nice place, and good service.....plain, boring, overpriced food.. great service, nice people, clean restaurant... . but this is aplaceto eat, the food was very average, zero flavor, and for the high prices... an iceberg lettuce salad with mushy red tomatoes...was really bad. we had the blackened chicken with red beans and rice.. the chicken was very spicy hot ( good) but had no flavor whatsoever, the beans and rice was just a flavorless pile of mush. we also had the jambalaya it was just plain and had no flavor...a total waste. the prices were just too high for bad food, and to top it off.. $3 for tea.

simply bad food, very over priced!. had to try this place, and i knew i was flying against the wind based on the less than superlative reviews from folks who's opinions i respect. i can only respect them more now - they warned, i ignored that warning. thisplaceoffers up rather expensive, and at the same time, rather ordinary food at best, prepared by folks who need to eat their own cooking, while experiencing their own service, this for an extended period of time.

the fried alligator basket ($13.95) was simply dreadful. the rather small amount of alligator was over breaded and flavorless, a soggy morass of bland. the majority of the accompanying fries were burnt, yeap burnt! how does that even get out of the kitchen? these people obviously don't care about the food they serve, or the people they serve it to.

the hush puppies (side order for $2.95) were doughy with a hard, crusty exterior. the dirty rice (side order for $2.95) was average at best, possessing little of the flavor explosion that this dish is known for. it's called dirty rice for a reason, the chicken livers give it taste and the "dirty" color - this rice was entirely too clean looking to taste good, and it didn't.

the crawfish etouffee ($16.95) had some decent flavor, but there was actually very little crawfish, especially considering the price of the dish, and the sauce lacked any richness, something this dish is known for. the crab cake that was added to this dish for $7.95 was decent, but way over priced for the portion.

the plain red beans and rice ($10.95) was just that - plain! another dish that should be loaded with flavor had almost none. if you can't prepare this classic new orleans dish correctly, you simply don't know how to prepare this type of food. the seafood gumbo (side for $5.95) had some decent flavor, but very little seafood.

the jambalaya ($15.95) actually had some nice spiciness to it, by far the best taste of anything in this meal, but is over priced. the bread pudding ($4.95) was priced about right but was dreadful, completely overcooked and tough as leather..

terrible food almost completely void of flavor providing an expensive lesson, but at least one that i learned from - avoid this place, period!

this was my first and last time going to that place. what they are trying to past off as my home town food is nowhere near what new orleans food look or taste like. really the only reason i went to thatplacewas because my friends know that i'm from nola and they wanted my opinion and they'll get the truth from me so i'm letting everyone know don't go to that fake place

an expensive meal for my dogs.. i had a $15 dollar gift certificate to this place, so i figured what's the worst that could happen? walking in, i was already sure i had made a mistake. theplacehad the decor of a crazy person's basement, with goofy plastic nick knacks all over the walls and dirty purple carpet. it was a friday at prime hours, and there were perhaps another 2 tables taken in a building the size of a small motel. we each ordered our entrees (at $16.95 each). our caesar salad was a plate of lettuce with sam's club dressing, and our bread was hot dog bun french bread. i ordered the seafood pasta and my wife ordered the sirloin. they were both tepid, and tasted/looked like they had been reheated in a microwave inside of an old shoe. the waitress (who was quite friendly) came and asked if we needed any a1 or heinz, and we almost snapped and started laughing out loud. this is just not the sort of thing you expect at this price point. without the gift certificate, the damage was close to $40. at half the price i would have found the meal unacceptable, and i don't consider myself a cheap diner.

tl:dr
i would honestly rate this the worst meal i have paid for in greensboro, which i've found has very good dining options in general.

great cajun food. just had lunch at new orleans restaurant. i have family in louisiana and this was as good as any i have had up and down the mississippi river. i had jambalaya and the depth of flavors was excellent, my dad had cajun catfish, while different from any i have had it was still excellent. my wife had the bang up shrimp appetizer and it was also very good. can't speak for any who didn't like the food, but it is authentic cajun/creole fare. i reccomend thisplaceand i will go back for more.

the only authentic item from new orleans is the louisiana hot sauce on the table. honestly one of the worst restaurants i've been to in a long time. overpriced, cheap quality food. you can't just throw some frozen shrimp in a stew and call it gumbo. ate there because we had a coupon, and realizedplacehad been open since october. surprised the doors are still open. if it went for the motels across the street they would be closed, when you have a choice of walking to jakes a chinese buffet or thisplacei can see why people come there, but they definitely aren't getting any repeat business from the locals.
