definitely worth a spin, especially for baked goods. a very easy on/off, but a bit hard to spot from the highway. from the west side of the 440 loop, off at exit 3 hillsborough street. then east toward the center of the city. turn right in about 50-100 yards, just in front of the waffle house. across the railroad tracks, then bear left. and there you are!

it's more a middle eastern deli and mini-market ... than it is an actual restaurant ... but most people are there to eat. there's a cozy patio dining area out front. after sizing things up, i went for the "large kabob platter," that included two kabob sticks and two 'salads' for $8.95. i had the cucumber salad and the black bean salad. but the all the usual suspects -- including tahini, hummus, tabouli, chick pea salad - are all there in the cold case. that case also displayed some pita wraps, including chicken. the kabob is cooked to order and so after i paid, i walked away with my diet vanilla cream dr. browns and a number to stand on my table.

the wait wasn't all that long. the kabob sticks were about 9 inches long and held only meat, but the meat was cooked perfectly, charcoal & smoky tasting on the outside, a wee bit of rare on the inside. unfortunately, only six big bites later the kabob was all gone. then there was only a scoop, maybe two scoops of each salad. tasty enough, but in an instant or two, all that was gone as well.

the best part of the visit for most people is probably going to be at the desert case next to the cash register, where there's juicy looking baklava, bird's nest, almond cookies, date cookies, etc. i had a very-generously-sized strawberry & cream cheese danish which was only $1.50. absolutely yum! next time you have to bring a tray of goodies to a gathering, take this stuff and you'll be loved by everyone.

there were shelves of freshly baked breads … and now, after having eaten the delectable danish on the way home … i wish i had perused those shelves and brought a loaf or two home.

recommendation: hit this place for great snackin' deserts, breads and containers of mediterranean side salads. given the price-to-portion, take a pass on the entrees.

happy motoring !

try the ‘nouga pistachio’ – a chewy, nougat confection with chunks of pistachio nuts. ingredients: sugar, pistachio, glucose, egg whites, vanill

excellent food and grocery. friends of mine from syria introduced the neomonde to me and i've been visiting ever since. i live 1 1/2 hours away and look for excuses to drive to raleigh just to visit. i've brought my own family a number of times and the food is soooo good. the grocery is also excellent and i enjoy the inexpensive prices on cheeses and canned goods, unique sweets and baked treats that are very authentically lebanese. it's a good grocery for traditional middle eastern foods. i've been told, however, that the shawarma isn't "authentic." i thought it was very good.

delicious and affordable. some of the best middle eastern/mediterranean food in the area. and affordable! i always get the build-your-own platter for about 8 bucks- comes with 4 selections. sometimes i'll get 5 by getting 2 smaller portions as one of my picks. makes this some of the least expensive tapas in the area!
very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

divine. neomonde is wonderful. i've gone there for 10 years, and the food is consistently good. it has changed over time, expanded space and menu, as well as increased prices. they still make the best pita bread you will find in the area, and all of the desserts are delicious. i've never had anything that wasn't fresh and fulfilling. they, however, are not gluten-free. be prepared to inquire about ingredients in the prepared foods.

like a visit from the past. i remember neomonde when it was a small bakery run by the actual brothers, that no one actually knew about. now its a huge restaurant and 'store' with all kinds of stuff. besides eating, i recommend you try the nutella they have to offer

one of the best in the world. one of my five favorite retaurants in the world - actually one of my five favorite places on the planet. the food is incredibly good, flavors to die for - the quality is unparalleled. the aroma from the food practically knocks me out, i feel like i'm in heaven when i'm there. the atmosphere is relaxed even though sometimes it can be busy. the staff are very friendly, courteous, and helpful. top notch in every way, yet casual. nice outdoor seating. love the middle eastern music.

for as good as it is, and it is danged hard to beat. lunch can be a bother. i bounced off the lunch crowd twice this week. i'll make up for it today (saturday). i will not return for a workday lunch anytime soon, not without some seriously staggered timing.

i have never had a bad meal here. never had a bad entree either. the chickpea salad is excellent, almost as good as the hummous. go there. eat there. frequently.
