murphy's grand irish pub

the place was irish pub  right down to the music, which was live entertainment.  the food was was good and there was something for everyone...

i am fairly well traveled and often looking for something new and better but my search for apubin alexandria has ended today. you walk in to a very traditionalpubscene. the back of the bar is decorated with police emblems from around the country. i was greeted promptly and with a smile. i started with a pint and a cup of clam chowder. the chowder was among the best i have ever had. it is always hard to choose between bangers and mash and fish and chips so i went with the corned beef and cabbage. an ample portion of tender corned beef atop cabbage, potatoes and carrots. it was perfect. the place was pretty busy and it's always nice to be anywhere that is full of laughter. this place is a winner!

murphy's grand irishpubin alexandria is a classic irish pub. you know, the kind you can find almost anywhere in the world and when you find it you'll feel at home. it reminded me of apubin dublin where i knocked back a few pints. we stopped there because we found a coupon in a travel guide when we went to alexandria offering 'buy one entree, get a second free'. that seemed like a nice idea, accompanied by the fact that two of the restaurants i wanted to eat at were closed between lunch and dinner. the visit to murphy's turned out to be a good idea. first of all it was very hot outside and the air conditioning cooled os off right away. second there were several large screen tvs all turned to the olympic women's soccer finals with the usa in, a rematch against japan for the loss in the world cup. can there be a better place to watch a football match (soccer game) than an irish pub? i can't think of any and the cheering during the game added that much more atmosphere.  i ordered the m

great atmosphere for an irish pub, the beer selection was great. in my opinion it is apubfirst and a restaurant second so keep that in mind when going in. i had their version of a meat pie. i've had great tasting "real" sheppard's pie in another state. even though the meat pie at murphy's was good, the only complaint i have is it was more like a boxty they flattened and covered with gravy. since it was not what i was expecting i was somewhat disappointed, that said, it was still good and i am willing to try other items on their menu. the service was great during the visit, had to actually slow the waiter down so i could enjoy my beer first.

great place, great value. we tried the meat and potato pie, the stew, the corned beef, and the roast beef. all were wonderful and well priced, (under $10), and lots of great beer on tap plus the awesomepubatmosphere. this place is a must go to again in my opinion.

the atmosphere of murphy's was amazing. it was everything an irishpubshould be. it was crowded and noisy (but we could still converse with each other) and the service was good. the inside smelled wonderful, they had a fire lit which produced a homey, comfy smell. (pics are inside, blurry bc i did not have my flash on)

had bangers & mash and my friend had crabcakes. drinks were on the petite side dinner was good and the service was shakey at best! waitress was too busy flirting with a couple of customers to even acknowledge or bring us a check. after waiting 10 minutes had to find her at another table flirting to get her to ring up and bring the check. i know it's apubbut honestly we could have walked out and she'd never of known!

saturday night. showed up early with a group of friends to eat. ordered bangars and mash. you will not be disappointed if you order this dish. large portions and tastes great. as the night went on thepubfilled. once the music started up we knew we were in the right spot.

to the point: murphy's is the spot for good food, good friends, and great atmosphere.
