murphy's grand irish pub

economical, fast,goodfood. our waitress, megan, was excellent. bathroom needs help.

food is terrible, artichoke tastes like paint! overpriced, terrible service butgoodmusic and beer

the place was irish pub  right down to the music, which was live entertainment.  the food was wasgoodand there was something for everyone...

the alexandria area is great area for dining. a fine irish pub.goodselection of irish brew on tap, not a wine place but why would it be. service friendly, this night dined at the bar, the smithicks was cold. dinner went with their jameson strip steak w/ baked potato & mixed veggies. steak was cooked as requested, tender but more fat then i would expect with a strip. overall agoodplace.

excellent food.goodservice. only downfall was the live music was extremely loud - but the artist was very good.

slow service, so-so food. walked around old town for awhile trying to decide what to try...

the restaurant is very cozy and has a great atmosphere for the most part, although it was strange to hear irish music one minute, then 80s and early 90s music next.

anyway, i tried the shepherd's pie based on the server's suggestion. i have never had shepherd's pie before and thought this was asgooda time as any to try it. it wasgoodbut not mind blowing. it has your typical beef, mashed potatoes, and gravy with cheese, peas, lima beans, corn, carrots, etc. the meat had agoodflavor but it was asgoodas i hoped.

my fiancee had a caesar sald and spinach and artichoke dip. she did not like the dip at all and the salad was as expected.

the service was lacking...while the server was nice, they were slow and short-staffed. the business could really benefit having some bussers as the servers had to clear off and clean their own tables. i may go back and try the seafood platter but it just wasn't a very memorable experience.

corned beef and cabbage was so filling and at agoodprice (10$).

murphy's grand irish pub in alexandria is a classic irish pub. you know, the kind you can find almost anywhere in the world and when you find it you'll feel at home. it reminded me of a pub in dublin where i knocked back a few pints. we stopped there because we found a coupon in a travel guide when we went to alexandria offering 'buy one entree, get a second free'. that seemed like a nice idea, accompanied by the fact that two of the restaurants i wanted to eat at were closed between lunch and dinner. the visit to murphy's turned out to be agoodidea. first of all it was very hot outside and the air conditioning cooled os off right away. second there were several large screen tvs all turned to the olympic women's soccer finals with the usa in, a rematch against japan for the loss in the world cup. can there be a better place to watch a football match (soccer game) than an irish pub? i can't think of any and the cheering during the game added that much more atmosphere.  i ordered the m

great atmosphere for an irish pub, the beer selection was great. in my opinion it is a pub first and a restaurant second so keep that in mind when going in. i had their version of a meat pie. i've had great tasting "real" sheppard's pie in another state. even though the meat pie at murphy's was good, the only complaint i have is it was more like a boxty they flattened and covered with gravy. since it was not what i was expecting i was somewhat disappointed, that said, it was stillgoodand i am willing to try other items on their menu. the service was great during the visit, had to actually slow the waiter down so i could enjoy my beer first.

great daily specials. had a ten day vacation in the d.c area and was told to go to murphy's for agoodtime. i was not let down. first off they are very family friendly and offer the best value in town. we went to some other local restaurants and even though all went well, murphy's all round value and service ruled number one.
police patches line the back bar and food is great, at least the salmon i had and fish & chips the wife had.

this place is awesome.goodservice, tasty food, fireplace, constant entertainment, and beer beer beer. if you want some irish forth night, head here.

had bangers & mash and my friend had crabcakes. drinks were on the petite side dinner wasgoodand the service was shakey at best! waitress was too busy flirting with a couple of customers to even acknowledge or bring us a check. after waiting 10 minutes had to find her at another table flirting to get her to ring up and bring the check. i know it's a pub but honestly we could have walked out and she'd never of known!

saturday night. showed up early with a group of friends to eat. ordered bangars and mash. you will not be disappointed if you order this dish. large portions and tastes great. as the night went on the pub filled. once the music started up we knew we were in the right spot.

to the point: murphy's is the spot forgoodfood,goodfriends, and great atmosphere.

cool, but crowed. an alternate to pat troy's, but for a slightly younger set. ideal for patriot fans, always a crowd for the games. upstairs and downstairs have two different singers on the nights of pints and pals. goodservice goes on, even though you have to elbow your way to the bathroom. begoodnatured about it and participate in the singing and everyone will be cool. the john mccain 'victory' party was held here, and was crashed by snotty obama supporters. pretty funny, if just downright rude. but we're all friends, so order up and let's get down to some serious drinking.
