murphy's grand irish pub

fun place/hang-out! food is really average though. this place is better for after dinner partying than for eating

the food. we had lunch there today. i couldn't decide which dish was better - my husbands bangers and mash with the dark brown mystery gravy - was it from a jar or envelope; or my sisters maryland crab soup. was it progressive or cambell's. as for my pre-cooked microwaved hamburger patty well - i am not sure where to start. and the fries, don't let me forget the fries. - i got 4 slices of fried soggy potato
worst food i ever had.

corned beef and cabbage was so filling and at a good price (10$).

murphy's grand irish pub in alexandria is a classic irish pub. you know, the kind you can find almost anywhere in the world and when you find it you'll feel at home. it reminded me of a pub in dublin where i knocked back a few pints. we stopped there because we found a coupon in a travel guide when we went to alexandria offering 'buy one entree, get a second free'. that seemed like a nice idea, accompanied by the fact that two of the restaurants i wanted to eat at were closed between lunch and dinner. the visit to murphy's turned out to be a good idea. first of all it was very hot outside and the air conditioning cooled os off right away. second there were several large screen tvs all turned to the olympic women's soccer finals with the usa in, a rematch against japan for the loss in the world cup. can there be a better place to watch a football match (soccer game) than an irish pub? i can't think of any and the cheering during the game added that much more atmosphere.  i ordered the m

great atmosphere for an irish pub, the beer selection was great. in my opinion it is a pub first and a restaurant second so keep that in mind when going in. i had their version of a meat pie. i've had great tasting "real" sheppard's pie in another state. even though the meat pie at murphy's was good, the only complaint i have is it was more like a boxty they flattened and covered with gravy. since it was not what i was expecting i was somewhat disappointed, that said, it was still good and i am willing to try other items on their menu. the service was great during the visit, had to actually slow the waiter down so i could enjoy my beer first.

sadly though, neither appetizer was that great. the potato skins were very dry, even with the sour cream and the dip was lackluster.

great place, great value. we tried the meat and potato pie, the stew, the corned beef, and the roast beef. all were wonderful and well priced, (under $10), and lots of great beer on tap plus the awesome pub atmosphere. this place is a must go to again in my opinion.

great daily specials. had a ten day vacation in the d.c area and was told to go to murphy's for a good time. i was not let down. first off they are very family friendly and offer the best value in town. we went to some other local restaurants and even though all went well, murphy's all round value and service ruled number one.
police patches line the back bar and food is great, at least the salmon i had and fish & chips the wife had.

service was awful. we waited an hour for our food then another 45 minutes for the check, which turned out to be wrong. the food was nothing special. there are too many other nice places around for me to ever go back here.

horrible. waitress was rude, food was way to salty!!! glass stayed empty! do not go here! go to a better restaurant, there are plenty around this one that must be better! splitting the ticket was apparently such a hardship after providing lousy service that we had to find her again to ask for it.

not impressed. the service was not good, it took over an hour to get our food, the check was wring, and our server gave us attitude when we tried to correct it. the automatically added 18% gratuity was not earned. i had the stew, ok, but very salty. of all the places on king street, i would not go back.

this place is awesome. good service, tasty food, fireplace, constant entertainment, and beer beer beer. if you want some irish forth night, head here.

the atmosphere of murphy's was amazing. it was everything an irish pub should be. it was crowded and noisy (but we could still converse with each other) and the service was good. the inside smelled wonderful, they had a fire lit which produced a homey, comfy smell. great place to warm up by the fireplace and have a guinness! food was very tasty too!

great place to drink beer and have a good time. food lacks flavor altogether.
