my second time at mr.ubeand i came back for the beef wanton noodle soup as well as to try other few new things.

the day began to get cold and windy so it was the perfect weather for the beef wanton soup.

💠 beef wanton soup (₱185) - when the first time i ate there about three years ago, this dish used to cost around ₱150.

upon my return to mr. ube, i was a bit dismayed at first to see the price rising a bit, but when the soup was served -- servings were really generous -- i figured it was still worth the price.

the chunks of beef were still large (and there were lots of them) and pieces of pork siomai were large too. ah, how i missed this. still sulit 👍 -- it was good for two or even three if your appetite is not as big as ours. 😂

💠 crispy noodles seafood (₱185) - honestly, we thought that it was a one-person meal. but when this dish finally arrived, our eyes almost gouged out in surprise. to us, it was a big pile of crispy noodles topped with the usual pancit toppings -- plus tengang daga mushrooms that i liked. it was so good especially when eaten right away to get the crispiness of the noodles. soooooo goooood! sulit din! 👍

💠 xiao long bao (₱120, 5 pcs) - xiao long bao or xlb for short is kind of trending these days. while i'm a sucker for siomai, i have never otherwise tried xlb as i am kind of resisting food trends. but well, i finally gave in and i was richly rewarded with the delicious flavors of mr. ube's xlb.

and it's not even included on the "best xlb's you should definitely try" list and stuff.

to the most knowledgeable foodies, this may be an ordinary xlb. but i fell in love with it at first bite. 😍

it was delightfully sticky to the bite, the flavors were rich and savory, and the yummy broth topped it all for this xlb. it was stuffed with good amounts of pork too. kind of expensive to me but oh well i came to love it.

💠 thai green milk tea (₱65) oh yeah, aside from the beef wanton, i came back also for the thai green milk tea. i loved its floral hints and aftertaste -- something like sampaguita or ilang-ilang. but when i looked at the ingredients, they were pretty simple: purified water, milk, honey and matcha powder.

with its sweetness factor, this was far from my ideal matcha, but the flowery hints really made me to love this drink.

it was also a bit concentrated so it was best to pour this over ice -- and servers seemed to know that all too well as they also brought us with glasses of ice cubes. 😊

i was thinking, maybe the bees were fed with pollens of sampaguita blossoms? 🐝 💮 it was really fragrant but the fragrant factor was not too overpowering. 😊

💠 naicha milk tea (₱65) - this was real brewed tea goodness, not the fake ones i usually get from most milk tea shops i've been to.

when i asked my sister -- who was my dinner date btw -- what rating she would give to mr. ube, she said she'd get all the stars in the sky for this restaurant 😂

for the food alone, mr.ubewas a five-star winner!

plus, servers were nice (and prone to apologizing a lot -- they'd say sorry kung nabangga ka nila, or when your dish was served a bit late).

because we were so full, we didn't bother to buy their hopia, which i kind of regret now (i would have bought the custard hopia, my favorite).

been seeing this restaurant/bakery along ongpin st. for quite a while so i told myself maybe today is the time to have a taste of what they're offering.

mrubeis the brainchild of eng bee tin's gerry chua ,anubethemed and colored restaurant that's serving tsinoy treats as well as southeast and northeast asian dishes.

the area is small and full of purple hues.servers are very friendly and helpful, service is quick too.

i ordered the taiwan crunchy meatball noodle soup, butch lava and thai green milk tea.

the taiwan crunchy meatball noodle soup.as the order arrived i've noticed that the meatball thats in the soup was the same meatball served whenever i'm in hkg or east asia so it was not on the crunchy side yet its good and it has that snap in every bite and i love that quality .the broth was flavorful, clear, hot and comforting.i love the roasted shallots, bokchoy and the black fungus or cloud ear mushroom thats in the soup.i think this dish have been mislabeled or the "crunchy" term should be omitted from label.

the butchi lava- i was curious with this,so i've to try it,nice butchi sesame shell filled with creamy custard like the not overly sweet filling but it could have been better if they've made it a bit runny.

the thai green milktea- super thumbs up,impressed me with the authentic taste, nice distinct thai flavor with that fragrant flowery flavor.spot on!

overall this restaurant is good, and eng bee tin never ceases to amazed me as i'm about to leave the area i saw an ad showing that they're selling three kinds of mooncake, the premium aka traditional, the shanghai which has a glistening flaky shell and the durian variety a thai version of the durian which is colored immaculately ivory.very up to date and very current in the food trend.

this afternoon, my mom accompanied me to my first fitting for my bridesmaid gown for my cousin's wedding (this coming june), and found ourselves wandering around the ongpin area. since we were a bit hungry, we decided to eat at mr.ubebefore going home.

we had the following for sharing:
✔ canton style noodles (php 180) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
their version of pancit canton had generous toppings that had a great variety, ranging from vegetables, pork slices, chorizo, chicken liver, and shrimps! 😍 the noodles are cooked in a saucy way, and is not too mushy (which is usually the case for chinese noodles). the serving size was big, good for 2-3 persons. a yummy merienda for an affordable price!

✔ pork and shrimp siomai (php 60 for 5 pieces) - ⭐⭐⭐
their siomai was underwhelming, as the meat was not that firm and the wrapper was soggy. quite disappointing, as mr.ubeis supposedly a chinese restaurant. their chili sauce was a good addition to the slightly bland dimsum dish, though.

ubecustard crazy hopia shake (php 85) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
eng bee tin's custard hopia in shake form? 😨 i initially thought this shake might have a weird texture, since i'm imagining that it might have the flaky hopia crust in it. 😅 but it was yummy and oh so creamy! the milk and ice cream did their magic. it really does taste like the custard hopia, which i am a big fan of. it's definitely a great drink to beat the heat this summer. 😍

the place is quite small, and there is nothing notable in their ambiance. service was just okay, the server kept forgetting to give us what we need and went back and forth just to be able to give us our plates and utensils.

overall, food is good and generally has good value for money! 😋

as a tribute to theubetruck and them firefighters, the owners put up this cute purple restaurant which has always been a part of the charm of binondo and its greatness. i have been a witness to its inception and growth throughout the years. as a former binondo girl i am proud to say that i have eaten here several times before and i have always enjoyed the lechon macau rice toppings, the tauso fish fillet and the mr.ubespecialty, stir fried noodles. i wish i could've taken photos of what i've eaten here before. sadly i wasn't into food porn yet during those early years haha!

mr.ubeis one of the must-try places if you're on a food trip in chinatown manila. it is the small purple store beside the small bridge along ongpin. the place is actually much bigger once you're inside. they serve dimsum, noodles, congees, and rice toppings. we've tried their raddish cake, pork siomai, hakaw, lechon macau, singapore laksa, beef wanton noodle, and japanese shoyu noodle. food were excellent. soya beverages were also good.

mr.ubeis owned by eng bee tin, which derived from their best-selling item then, the hopia ube. mr.ubestarted selling asian fusion noodles and some dimsum before expanding to rice meals and chinese snacks.

i love their raddish cake because of the rich flavor. try their lechon macau. for noodles, the sukiyaki and maki noodles for me.

this place opened a few years ago when i was still in highschool. and i remembered me and my friends being excited to check out the place since it was just a short walk from school.

food - their mr.ubespecial stir fry noodle is prolly the best off the menu. (in my opinion of course, lol.) no matter how many times i order that one i just couldn't get enough.

staff - people working here are friendly, always had a smile on their faces, must be because they are bisaya and we all know that bisaya's turned friendly to an art form. :)
